2 Abstract This document describes best practices to properly deploy HP Modular and Monitored PDUs designed specifically for data center customers who want to maximize power distribution and space efficiencies in the rack. Introduction Product Highlights HP PDU Models Available HP Modular PDUs consist of two building blocks - the Control Unit (core) and the Extension Bar(s) (sticks). The Control Unit is 1U/0U, and the Extension Bars mount directly to the frame of the rack in multiple locations. HP Monitored PDU's include full rack models with 39 receptacles on the single input models or with 78 receptacles on the dual input models. Half rack versions are single input and are available in a popular single phase model with 27 receptacles and a high capacity 3 phase model with 12 receptacles for use in dense BladeSystem environments. Half rack versions can be mounted horizontally or vertically. The HP PDU Management Module provides remote monitoring of a Monitored PDU by connecting the PDU directly to the network. Configuration and management of the PDU from anywhere and at anytime can be done via a standard web browser. Page 2 of 16

4 HP Modular PDU Advantages 24/7 Data Centers HP Modular PDUs have a unique modular architecture designed specifically for data center customers who want to maximize power distribution and space efficiencies in the rack. Features Single input power distribution units with a unique modular design architecture Up to 28 outlet receptacles Zero-U/1U dense rack form factor Easily accessible outlet receptacles and improved cable management Models range from 2.8kVA to 22kVA HP Monitored PDU Advantages 24/7 Data Centers The HP Monitored PDU enables data centers to provide full rack power from one or more power distribution units. Full rack height models are vertically mounted, taking 0U of rack space. They are available in single input models, or dual input models for increased power redundancy. Half height PDUs are perfect for BladeSystems and other dense environments. Half rack height models can be vertically or horizontally rack mounted taking 0U of rack space. They are available in single input models only. Power Monitoring The HP Monitored PDU provides local and optional remote load monitoring. Each PDU chassis includes two serial ports-#1 for local set-up and configuration and #2 for attachment of the optional remote monitoring module. NOTE: Optional remote monitoring with HP PDU Management Module (PN: AF400A) Power Display Local user interface consists of a basic control panel that includes a two-digit 7-segment display, a recessed reset button, a scroll/invert button and 6 segment-dedicated LEDs. Local alarms are annunciated for current and voltage excursions. Page 4 of 16
