1 PRODUCT SHEET CA Teleview Session Management for z/os CA Teleview Session Management for z/os r4.4 CA Teleview Session Management for z/os (CA Teleview) provides organizations with a powerful, scalable industry-proven business solution for secure concurrent access to multiple mainframe SNA applications while minimizing use of network resources. Overview CA Teleview is an industry proven z/os VTAM session manager designed to improve system and user productivity. It efficiently controls online system access with minimal overhead and system resource consumption. Business value CA Teleview provides organizations with a powerful high performance and scalable SNA session management solution. It provides access to multiple concurrent SNA VTAM applications through a single, secure and consistent interface. It offers a customizable menu-based selection panel to manage small and large workloads with a minimum use of network resources.

2 Features Mainframe 2.0 CA Teleview has adopted key Mainframe 2.0 features that are designed to simplify your use of CA Teleview and enable your staff to install, configure and maintain it more effectively and quickly. Electronic Software Delivery (ESD): Mainframe 2.0 ESD enables you to install CA Teleview using standard utilities without requiring you to reconstitute a tape cartridge. This new procedure helps speed installation and facilitates a consistent install process across mainframe products from CA Technologies, shortening the learning curve for mainframe staff. What s new in CA Teleview r4.4 Enhancements to Seeview/Helpdesk component: Auto Update feature has been enhanced. Multiple Viewers feature now permits more than one viewer concurrently. Confirmation feature notifies the viewee and provides the opportunity to approve or reject the request. Reliability and availability improvements: CA Teleview service tasks are now restarted automatically in the event of a failure. Feature setting control enables L14 trunk failure message to be written to the z/os or OS/390 console as a highlighted message. Enhanced Logging Time Stamping feature ensures time stamps are always in military time (24-hour clock) and are delineated to 100ths of a second. Open Extend Option feature opens the VLOGSYS or VLOG day data set with the extend option under certain conditions when this feature is enabled. Optional Reduced Logging feature enables you to reduce logging during user logon with the External Security Option. 2

3 Command exit (application menu): Accepts the command for normal processing Rejects the command and informs the user Executes a different command provided by the exit Enhancements to messaging component: Exclusion List: This enhancement allows specification of terminals (generic) which do not receive broadcast or targeted messages. Reply-Panel Suppression: This allows the sender to suppress the Reply Panel at the recipient s terminal. Enhancements to operator component: Scrollable display: The display of users, systems and users systems are now scrollable both up and down. Log All commands: All operator commands issued to CA Teleview from the OS console (z/os or OS/390) are now written to the CA Teleview log. OS console: Allows the Halt/Start Logons and GNAMEADD/GNAMEDEL commands to be issued from the console. SWAPDB: Provides a single command using the Operator Panels to switch between databases. Attach command: Using this debug command now automatically detaches the currently running task if it exists. Enhancements to CA Teleview menu: Improved Application Status: Application Status shows Available if CA Teleview can connect to the application even though an inquiry fails. $Profile Users: Users who log on with Profile IDs are now able to update their CA Teleview USERMENU definitions for the duration of their sessions. Enhancements to configurator component: LU Pools feature allows specification of sub-pools within pools, providing for discontinuous elements within a pool. Variable length names: Elements from four to eight characters in length are now supported. 3

4 Numbering schemes by sub-pool: Each sub-pool can have its own numbering scheme defined, choosing between Alphabetic, Alphanumeric or Hexadecimal. Model-terminal-entries reduce the number of terminal entries in the Configuration database. Wildcard mask for SLUNAME: You can now enter a Wildcard for SLUNAME and CA Teleview will determine the actual SLUNAME based on the real terminal name and the mask. Enhancements to external security interface: Portability is now supported. Security sign-on exit has been enhanced. Security exit called prior to SAF call optional feature (available in SP07). Enhancements to dialogue management component: Page positioning has been enhanced when printing. Mixed case password support: CA Teleview supports mixed case passwords in SP08 level and above. IP address and port number capture: This feature is available by PTF maintenance to SP08. CA Teleview captures both IPV4 and IPV6 addresses from the VTAM CINIT TCPIP Information vector and stores the raw IPA numeric value in the terminal/user related control for TELNET connections. OPER Display User Information has been enhanced to display an active user s IP address and port number. Key features In today s increasingly complex business landscape it is essential that organizations have quick and easy access to their business applications. Mainframe hosted online application access is available via traditional SNA network connections using 3270 green screen terminals or using the popular TCP/IP based connections from a PC workstation running Telnet 3270 terminal simulation/emulation. Many business applications have components that are distributed in a client/server architecture and 4

5 often need to access data or communicate with VTAM applications on a mainframe host. In addition, many business processes, such as insurance claims and financial services, require users to access more than one application on more than one platform to accomplish many of their tasks for example entering data, making calculations, validating customer information, processing a report or printing a check. To address these challenges as well as improve end user productivity and reduce costs, CA Teleview provides concurrent access to multiple VTAM applications from a single terminal or workstation. This saves the user from single threaded, repetitive logons and logoffs to individual applications. It also reduces the system and security resources needed to process repetitive logons and the user does not need multiple physical terminals, workstations or windows to complete their tasks. CA Teleview is a comprehensive solution that provides access to the SNA network and allows users to access multiple mainframe applications simultaneously from a single 3270 COAX or TELENET 3270 (TN3270) connection. Key capabilities User credential verification: CA Teleview provides a wide selection of User ID credential verification methods to meet a wide variety of business needs. It offers exits such as Global Sign-0n and Specific Logon Exit or CA Teleview will make the security call to the SAF product called External Security. Product administration and tailoring: All interactions between CA Teleview managed terminals and applications are controlled by the CA Teleview Configurator (usually referred to as CONFIG). It is an online menu-driven facility used by the administrator to define VTAM and application resources related to CA Teleview. Customization and exits: CA Teleview offers a wide variety of exits that can be tailored to meet the individual business and operational needs of an organization. Command authorization exit: This is an exit point that allows you to process input from the CA Teleview Main Menu and then accept, reject or substitute commands. Panel text: There is a panel text member (one for each language support), which allows certain fields on the CA Teleview Application Selection Menu to be customized. 5

6 Sign-on panel: CA Teleview has a customizable sign-on panel. If External Security or Global Sign-on method is used, then the panel manager definitions can be used. Menu customization: When using the External Security function, there is an additional feature that tailors the default application menu based on the individual user s access to the applications. This feature works in conjunction with security access products such as CA ACF2, CA Top Secret and IBM RACF. Extend menu facility: Allows administrative users to group similar or related applications from the Main Menu onto other menus to create a tree-like structure of menus. These extended menus are built dynamically from an application list and read from an external data set into virtual storage at CA Teleview startup. Administrative internal functions/applications: CA Teleview provides the following administrative internal functions and applications: DEBUG is a resident online application that is used to display storage and control blocks and is used for diagnostic purposes. OPER is an application that allows you to access the CA Teleview internal systems information. SEEVIEW application: SEEVIEW is a resident real-time application that allows authorized terminals/users to view the sessions of other users signed on to CA Teleview. USER applications: CA Teleview provides resident applications that are intended for end users including CUT/PASTE, HARDCOPY, MESSAGE (MSG) and NEWS. SMF records: There are optional SMF records created during logon, application session establishment, session switching, shutdown, application session termination and logoff. Session traffic compression: Three types of compression are available for session traffic. Two types are for application session outbound, including repeated character and differencing, and one is for application session inbound. User written internal applications: CA Teleview provides the ability to write internal applications such as a VUSER program (limited to a maximum of ten) or the Dialogue Manager ROUTER. 6

7 Dialogue manager functions: These functions include: Script language: CA Teleview offers a script language called Conversational Macro Language (CML) that supports a variety of functions needed for tasks such as sign-on and application time-out scripts. User written applications: CA Teleview provides the ability to write internal applications by using CML to extract information from one or more active sessions and display the data on the screen of the internal application. CA Teleview has proven to be an invaluable tool in creating user friendly cross application processing environments. System variables: CA Teleview system variables are available in dialogues to provide access to commonly used information like time, date, terminal name and application name. User variables: User variables are those variables defined and used within the context of a dialogue. The dialogue manager enables you to define and maintain user variables without having to know assembler programming. There are two possible types of user variables character and numeric. Panel definition facility: The panel definition facility for dialogue management allows you to create and store panel members that are subsequently accessed in a dialogue and sent to the user terminal by the TERMINAL PUT command. Flexible configuration environments: CA Teleview is available in multiple configurations to meet the business needs of large to small organizations and workloads: CA Teleview Entry: Is available for small organizations or workloads (four hundred or less concurrent users). CA Teleview Unlimited: Is intended for medium to large organizations or workloads, permitting an unlimited number of users in a single region. CA Teleview Unlimited with Distributed Option: Allows multiple regions within an LPAR and across multiple LPARS as single-image systems. 7
