IBM Workload Scheduler V9.3 Workload Automation Programming Language 9 Interesting application scenarios Raffaella Viola (IBM) 03/11/2015
Abstract Workload Automation Programming Language for z/os (WAPL) is a Workload Automation interface that allows users to simply leverage the full potential of Workload Scheduler for z/os. With WAPL it is possible to easily implement scenarios that would normally require a complex programming if implemented through the classic Workload Scheduler Programming Interface Facility. In this presentation, after an overview of the functions that WAPL offers, you see the power of this new interface through the implementation of some interesting scenarios. 2
Agenda WAPL commands overview Some interesting scenarios implemented with WAPL 3
Workload Automation Programming Language for z/os (WAPL) Data commands (PIF) LIST SELECT DELETE MODIFY INSERT etc Batch Loader ADSTART CLSTART ETTSTART WSSTART etc Function commands ADD LISTJOB LISTSTAT GETDATES etc Current Plan Commands HOLD RELEASE NOP UNNOP ALTER BIND etc WAPL Batch/STC/TSO 90 commands TSO commands OPSTAT SRSTAT WSSTAT OPINFO etc Occurrence commands RUNIF ALTIF Commands in USRF etc Communication SENDMAIL SENDMSG CONSOLE DISPLAY etc Programming language Variables, Functions IF/THEN/ELSE REXX DO/UNTIL/WHILE etc 4

The Started Task JCL Create once, use many //WSMCCMD1 JOB CLASS=A,MSGCLASS=X //*%OPC SCAN //********************************************************************** //* THIS SHOULD BE USED ON AN STC WORKSTATION TO RUN WAPL COMMANDS FOR //* INSTALLATIONS WHERE OPCOPTS RCLEANUP(YES) IS USED. //* //* IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT THE JOBNAME BE PREFIXED BY THE SUBSYS NAME //* E.G. 16 Repeatable Occurrences creation The occurrences are added one by one to the Current Plan 16
Repeatable Occurrences creation Thanks to RESOLVE parameter it is possible to control the addition of each occurrence RESOLVE(NEXT): respects the intervals of the start but the occurrence is not added if the interval is passed. ADD FROM(0900) UNTIL(2100) EVERY(0015) RESOLVE(NEXT) 10:00 Starting first operation 10:12 End last operation (after 15 minutes from start) 10:15 10:35 End last operation (after 15 minutes from start, but the next one is skipped if previous not completed) 10:45 17
Repeatable Occurrences creation Thanks to RESOLVE parameter it is possible to control the addition of each occurrence RESOLVE(GAP): ensure that each occurrence will start with the same interval between one finishing and the next starting. ADD FROM(0900) UNTIL(2100) EVERY(0015) RESOLVE(GAP) 10:00 Starting first operation 10:12 End last operation (after 15 minutes from end) 10:27 10:47 End last operation (after 15 minutes from end) 11:02 18
Repeatable Occurrences creation Thanks to RESOLVE parameter it is possible to control the addition of each occurrence RESOLVE(hhmm): ensure that there is a minimum time between one occurrence ending and the next one starting, but the occurrence still starts on a perfect interval of the EVERY time. ADD FROM(0900) UNTIL(2100) EVERY(0015) RESOLVE(005) 9:30 Starting first operation 9:39 End last operation 45-39= 6 (>5) the next operation is added at 9:45 (after 15 minutes from start) 9:45 9:56 End last operation = 4 minutes (<5) the next operation of 10:00 is skipped. The next operation is added at 10:15 10:15 19
