To crat nw data or modl changs to xisting data without affcting othr usrs or procsss. To load data from diffrnt sourcs to b compard, rationalizd, and blndd. Data Rlationship Managmnt Vrsion Lif Cycl Most organizations us Oracl Data Rlationship Managmnt on a cyclical basis that matchs thir oprational or rporting calndar. Within ach calndar priod, th us of Data Rlationship Managmnt follows a prdictabl pattrn: 1. A nw Data Rlationship Managmnt Working vrsion is cratd as a copy of th Finalizd vrsion from th prvious priod. Vrsion Typ and Status Vrsion information is availabl from th Brows task on th navigation bar. Each vrsion has th following charactristics: Vrsion nam Vrsion dscription Typ Normal A vrsion that can b ditd and its status modifid. Baslin A copy of th normal vrsion at th tim it was savd. This vrsion typ has a status of Expird. As-Of A historical viw of a normal vrsion basd on a tim priod or transaction ID. Status Working Usrs can dit vrsions with this status. Submittd Only usrs who ar th ownr of a vrsion or with a usr rol of Data Managr can dit vrsions with this status. Finalizd No on can dit vrsions with this status. Load Status Spcifis if th vrsion is loadd into mmory and rady to us or initializd but not loadd into mmory. To crat a nw, mpty vrsion: 1. From Brows, click. 2. Entr a nam and dscription for th vrsion, and thn click OK. Whn th vrsion tr rfrshs, th nw vrsion is displayd in a dtachd (unsavd) stat and you can start adding data to it. Working with Vrsion Variabls Vrsion variabls allow dynamic rfrncs to vrsions, which can chang ovr tim. Data Crator, Data Managr, and Application Administrator rol usrs can crat vrsion variabls to rfr to diffrnt vrsions ovr tim. Usr variabls ar managd by ths usrs for thir own prsonal us. Standard variabls ar managd by Data Managr usrs for public us by all usrs. Systm variabls ar managd by Application Administrators for systm intgration purposs. A vrsion may b assignd to multipl variabls but any variabl may only hav on vrsion assignd. A variabl may also hav no vrsions assignd but it is not rcommndd for variabls that ar savd with usr mtadata objcts such as quris, compars, and xports. In all aras of Oracl Data Rlationship Managmnt, a vrsion variabl may b usd in th sam mannr as a vrsion nam. Using vrsion variabls, you can also: Quickly find a vrsion in a larg list of vrsions. Sav vrsion variabls with quris, compars, imports, blndrs, and xports. Crating Vrsion Variabls Whn crating a vrsion variabl, you must ntr a labl and slct an objct accss lvl (usr, standard, systm, or custom group). Th labl must b uniqu across all vrsions and variabls. A vrsion variabl may b cratd by adding it to th list of xisting variabls or by slcting a vrsion and adding a nw variabl. To crat a vrsion variabl: 1. From Brows, click. 3-3

Assigning a Vrsion to a Variabl You can assign any Normal vrsion to any accssibl vrsion variabl. Baslin or As- Of vrsions cannot b assignd to a variabl. Only on vrsion can b assignd to a variabl. If a variabl currntly has a vrsion assignd, thn that vrsion is rmovd and th nw vrsion is assignd. To assign a vrsion to a variabl: 1. From Brows, right-click a vrsion to assign it to a variabl and thn slct St Variabls. 2. Slct a variabl from th list. To mak multipl changs to vrsion variabl assignmnts: 1. From Brows, click. 2. For any assignd vrsion that you want to chang, slct th row. In th Assignd Vrsion column, slct th nw vrsion to assign to th variabl. 3. In th Action column, click. 4. Click Clos. Dlting Vrsion Variabls You can dlt any vrsion variabl for which you hav managmnt rights. To dlt a vrsion variabl: Copying Vrsions 1. From Brows, click. 2. Exampls of domains includ Accounts, Entitis, Dpartmnts, Products, Employs, and Projcts. Domains ar cratd by administrators and associatd with vrsions by Data Managr rol usrs or vrsion ownrs. Nods may b assignd to a domain in a particular vrsion at th tim of cration or latr using th Domain Mmbrship fatur. Domain nods must follow th bhavior spcifid for thir domain. Nods that ar mmbrs of a domain cannot b rnamd. Slct Laf Nod or Limb Nod, dpnding on th typ of nod you ar adding. 6. Optional: Slct a domain from th drop-down list. Th domain option in th Nw Nod dialog box is displayd only if domains ar assignd to th vrsion. Som important considrations whn slcting a domain: If th nod nam ntrd dos not xist, it is addd as a mmbr of th slctd domain with th domain qualifir txt appndd to th nam. If th nod nam ntrd xists in th domain but not in th currnt vrsion, you can add th domain nod to th vrsion. If th nod xists in th domain and in a vrsion, th Copy Global Proprtis From option is availabl to copy th domain nod's global proprtis from anothr vrsion. If a domain is not slctd from th list and th nod nam ntrd includs txt that qualifis it for a domain assignd to th vrsion, th nod cannot b addd unlss it is addd to th domain at th sam tim, or was prviously addd to th domain in anothr vrsion 7. Ths systm prfrncs must b nabld for th ID function to work: AllowNxtIDGnration must b st to Tru. AllowNxtIDKyCration dtrmins th lvl of usr that can crat nw ID kys. To us th Nxt ID function, typ a prfix in th nod nam fild and click ID. If th prfix alrady xists in th systm, thn an ID valu is rturnd that is on gratr than th last ID prviously gnratd. If th prfix has not bn usd bfor, thn an ID valu of 1 (with th appropriat numbr of lading zros) is rturnd.
