26 Background and further discussion While many different parts of a plant can be used for seasoning, tree leaves are fairly unusual and using the bark of a tree is even more unusual. There's at least one other fairly common drink that's flavored with tree bark, and most pumpkin pies contain a fair bit of ground up tree bark from the South Seas.
