WP6 s mood 9 meetings since the beginning of 6Net #3 meetings a year Good attendance and an increasing participation of the partners over time Joint meetings with WP3 and WP1 Strong and efficient collaboration Number of presentations from partners experiences! Important input from Cisco engineers on their roadmap and updates Then we enjoy(ed) to work together! B. Tuy 6Net final Review, Lisbon, PT - 23/06/ WP6 resources partners 13 academic 2 industry 114 PMs planned 116 PMs claimed B. Tuy 6Net final Review, Lisbon, PT - 23/06/
WP6 achievements /1 12 Deliverables delivered! 1 cookbook :D6.3.1 (IPv6 Network Management) 2002 : : : 3 Deliverables are the visible part of the «iceberg» A lot of monitoring and management tools have been tested and documented : Many of them are implemented in partners IPv6 network for day-to-day op. B. Tuy 6Net final Review, Lisbon, PT - 23/06/ WP6 achievements /2 Discussion on standards (MIBs, Netflow, ) and IETF participation Discussion with Cisco engineers to get unified MIBs, Netflow v9, implemented Demos were presented at the 2 last review meetings and a new one is available for this final review B. Tuy 6Net final Review, Lisbon, PT - 23/06/
WP6 last achievements Period Jan - Jun 2005 Netflow v9 Renater s Netflow collector has progressed has been released as GPL source code With a GUI in Python Works for IPv4 & IPv6 Cf : JOIN s TV (weathermap), webalyser, Meinberg NTP-appliance, smokeping BGP monitoring tool (NIIF/Hungarnet) Tracking the number of actives ASNs / IPv6 routes B. Tuy 6Net final Review, Lisbon, PT - 23/06/ WP6 last achievements /2 Renumbering IPv6 networks «belongs to» WP3 But related to WP6 area in terms of Control of the renumbering process Control of the management tools activity during this process Valuable contribution of LORIA on the latter Renater will trigger a discussion on the renumbering management at the next IETF in Paris B. Tuy 6Net final Review, Lisbon, PT - 23/06/
WP6 last achievements /3 NOC training sessions 1 more session has been done in Belgrad (03/2005) Good collaboration with Hungarnet Extended in the 6DISS project And with SOTON, UK And with Cisco that put a copyright on my IPv6 management tutorial slides ;) B. Tuy 6Net final Review, Lisbon, PT - 23/06/ WP6 last achievements /4 Renater s management interface «Unified management interface» demo Integration of «all» the tools we need to Manage and monitor the network (including TTs) Retrieve measures made on continuous basis Get information on the equipments (inventory, ) B. Tuy 6Net final Review, Lisbon, PT - 23/06/
WP6 last achievements /5 Other partners were very active too SOTON helped the RIPE NCC to port the TTM code to IPv6 and tested it They used Netflow v9 to control the renumbering process Related to IPv6 multicast management they worked on SSMPING tool to check PIM SSM connectivity And dbeacon : (creation of ULP) PSNC Commercial platforms tested in IPv6 renumbering experimentations (HPOV NNM 7.5 and Cisco CM 4.0) And used along with other tools in the PIONEER NREN MRTG, AS PATH tree, LG, Cf : B. Tuy 6Net final Review, Lisbon, PT - 23/06/ Information «broadcasting» 6Net website is the right place to retrieve Deliverables, cookbooks Management and tool sheets Presentations of these activities Various meetings, confs RIPE, IPv6 Summits, Follow up Experience gained will be capitalized into the 6DISS IPv6 management module we re creating for the trainings and workshops B. Tuy 6Net final Review, Lisbon, PT - 23/06/
WP6 success story (ies) RIPE NCC Test Traffic Monitoring H/w and S/w to monitor network «quality», measuring delay, packet loss, jitter, In 2002, 100+ such boxes (servers) were installed mainly in EU 6Net helped the RIPE NCC to make their S/w IPv6 ready and the service available The first Dual Stack TTM server was installed in SOTON by 2003 These days, 30+ such DS TTMs are installed and running They provide accurate data on IPv6 networks around EU 6Net s initiative accelerated the availability of this new service Plots are available from : (you need to accept terms and conditions that you won't republish the data without informing RIPE NCC) B. Tuy 6Net final Review, Lisbon, PT - 23/06/ Conclusion WP6 has achieved an impressive work on IPv6 network management architecture Monitoring tools tests, porting and documentation Training material (NOCs) We had fun in doing so then network management isn t the boring part! We re «gonna» regret not to be able to work together further on Until a new project allows us to do so B. Tuy 6Net final Review, Lisbon, PT - 23/06/
