2 Audience Welcome to the DS3000 Storage Manager Simulator Overview. The audience for this overview are technically-oriented members of the sales community who wish to utilize the Simulator to understand more about how DS3000 Storage Manager works, as well as demonstrate its capabilities to prospects. Goals of this Document During the sales cycle, the DS3000 Storage Manager Simulator can be a powerful tool in demonstrating how quickly and easily IBM storage subsystems can solve business problems. This overview is designed to help users install the Simulator and become familiar with its capabilities. New for this Version RAID 6, Dynamic RAID Level Migration (DRM) and greater than 2TB LUNs Prerequisites The DS3000 Storage Manager Simulator program runs on Windows 2000 or XP environments. Other environments have not been tested nor are they approved for use. Loading the Software The DS3000 Simulator program is available from a variety of sources (CD, web, etc.) and comes as a zip file with the following name: DS3000_335_V4.zip. The Storage Manager Demo program is available from a variety of sources including CDs IBM Internal Sales Kit: e=doctype,s0 doctype,stl brands,b5000 brands,b8s00 geography,amr&appname=cc_cfss External PartnerWorld Kit: IBM DS Series Portal: Unzip this file into a folder of your choice. Within this folder will be the DEMO folder and simply navigate there and execute the batch file named Start_Demo.bat. You re ready to go! Helpful Hints When the installation of the DS3000 Simulator is completed, it is not necessary to reboot your system before executing the Start_Demo batch file. If you have had previous versions of the Simulator installed, ghost systems may appear and have a status of unresponsive. To correct, simply delete any unresponsive systems and rediscover the disk systems. DS Storage Manger Simulator Guide 1

3 Getting Started Once the demo has been executed, the following screens will appear the DS3000 Storage Manager splash screen identifying the Storage Manager Demo followed by the Enterprise Management Task Assistant. You can auto-discover the storage subsystems by selecting Add Storage Subsystem from the Task Assistant and then selecting the Automatic option and OK from the next window. Click OK one last time. Once the automatic discovery is complete, the Enterprise Management window will display the available subsystems which can be demonstrated.

As noted earlier, you may see unresponsive ghost systems from previous Simulator sessions. If so, simply remove (delete) them and then Add Storage Subsystem from the Setup tab. DS3200 This system has two controllers and three EXP3000 expansion units (48 drives) with a mix of SAS and SATA drives. All premium features have been enabled and no arrays have been configured. Select the the desired DS3000 system by double-clicking it in the right panel. The DS3000 Subsystem Management window (SMW) will then be displayed. DS Storage Manger Simulator Guide 3

5 The SMW provides access to most components and functions of the DS3000 series disk systems. There are six tabs in the SMW view, including: The Summary table provides a quick view of the disk system, including subsystem status, hardware components overview, total capacity, hosts and mappings, arrays and logical drives, as well as, the information center The Configure tab provides both host and storage configuration options such as configuring host access, creating a host group, configuring hot spares and creating arrays and logical drives. The Modify tab allows for changes to existing configurations. These available changes range from editing the host topology, renaming or deleting of logical drives, adding free capacity and modifying FlashCopy logical drives. The Tools tab provides additional functionality by supporting tasks such as renaming the storage subsystem, setting or changing a password, modifying media scan settings and changing pre-read redundancy and check settings The iscsi tab (available with the DS3300 only) provides iscsi host interface tasks to optimize the DS3300 for a user s given environment. And, the Support tab includes troubleshooting, maintenance support and online help. DS Storage Manger Simulator Guide 4

Also accessible from the SMW is the Initial Setup Tasks window which can be prompted by selecting the Initial Setup Tasks link which is available at the top left of the SMW.

By selecting the Initial Setup Tasks window, the following tasks can be accomplished: 1. Locate the storage subsystem 2. Rename the storage subsystem 3. Set a storage subsystem password 4. Configure iscsi host ports (DS3300-specific) 5. Configure host access 6. Configure storage subsystem (automatic or manual) Setting up a Demo Environment With both preconfigured and unconfigured disk systems, you have options for how you wish to demo the GUI. All the systems are ideal for high-level or in-depth exploration of the DS3000 feature set. Use the configured DS3400 disk system as the basis to demonstrate features and provide a simple but comprehensive walkthrough of the DS3000 environment. It is ideal for situations where time is an issue and the customer wants to see how arrays, logical drives and mappings appear and function after configuration. The other systems DS3300 and the DS3200 are ideal for in-depth exploration of the DS Storage Manager feature set. These systems can serve as a basis for demonstrating how arrays and logical drives are created, mappings are defined and premium features are utilized. DS Storage Manger Simulator Guide 5
