1 RM Bridge CONNECT Edition V11 Update 2 Release Notes Enhancements in RM Bridge CONNECT Edition V11 Update 2 (V ): RM Bridge CONNECT Edition V11 Update 2 contains the following enhancements and error corrections: 1. Prior to installing the latest version, please uninstall any pre-existing RM Bridge View. FEM: Enhancements for Shell Elements 1.1 Results Presentation for User Defined Area and Line Integrals Forces An option to graphically present area and line integrals forces, displacements, stresses under results option in main window is now available. These resultscan be viewed by selecting the options shown below:

3 1.2 Results Presentation (Colored Faces) Results for Shell forces are calculated in local direction. Colored face diagrams for Shell forces are now available in local direction. Displacement and Stress results can be presented in Local and Global direction with Colored face diagrams. 1.3 List file output for distributed area loads on Shell elements A new option for listing the distributed area loads on FEM bodies is now available. This option can be enabled in Recalculation Analyzer under Extended Setting as it shown below:

4 This option generates an auxiliary lst file which contains the shell element loads when the load case with shell loads is analyzed. 2. Load Dependent Ritz Vector Analysis The load dependent Ritz vector analysis provides faster extraction of more relevant modes for response spectra and modal superposition analysis. This new option can be enabled in Recalculation Analyzer under Dynamic/Iterations as shown below:

5 3. Add Tendons in Modeler A new option for creating Internal, Normal or Master Tendons geometry in Modeler have been added. User can define tendons based on bridge geometry and using station points. The new feature is available by double clicking on Tendons tree item inside Modeler. For more information click on F1 Help.

6 4. Enhancements in GUI Several GUI enhancements have been implemented to improve the user experience. They include: 4.1 Response spectra for South Africa A new response spectrum for South Africa Standard (TMH7) have been added. User can access this response spectra from Extras Loading and Stages Response Spectra. 4.2 Seismic workflow improvements for response spectrum analysis A new option for creating New Seismic loads directly from Response Spectrum Action (RespS) is now available. Seismic load parameters are consolidated in one dialog box and user can directly select response spectrum for different codes.

7 4.3 New option to generate automatic schedule for self-weight and eigen analysis to check the structural model created in RM Modeler or OpenBridge Modeler (OBM) A new option to generate automatic schedule for self-weight and eigen analysis to check the structural model created in RM Modeler or OpenBridge Modeler (OBM) have been added. This new option can be found under Recalculate Modeler and comes with default settings The user can also change the input such as name of schedule, number of modes, etc.

8 4.4 Load Combination Table for Euro Code A new option for creating Load Combination per Euro Code is now available. User can access this new load combination from Extras Loading and Stages Load Combination Tables.

9 4.5 New option for adaptive sub-stepping for dynamic analysis A new option for defining sub-steps in time history analysis (Action Tint) is now enhanced to accommodate adaptive sub-stepping. The default sub-steps is 10. If user wishes to have a selective range of sub-stepping then they may enter the sub-stepping in the form of range: (start:end:step) e.g. format 10:20:1, which would mean that a given problem if fails at a certain time step to achieve equilibrium then it would be further subdivided into 10 sub-steps and will go till 20 in the step of 1 until it finds equilibrium.

10 4.6 New catalog for viscous dampers A new catalog for viscous dampers from Taylor devices have been added. User can access this new catalog from Element Type Dampers/Isolator Viscous damper. The input data for viscous damper will be filled out when user select a viscous damper from catalog. User can see the viscous damper details in catalog by clicking on Description button.

11 4.7 Simultaneous mode for view options Simultaneous view in View Options is now available. View display in main window gets updated automatically by clicking on any View options.

12 4.8 New factor for moving load (pre-processors Rolling Stock) A new factor f has been added automatically to the load cases generated by preprocessors Rolling Stock. The value of this factor is equal to 1 by default. User can change the default value under Variables and assign desired formula as an expression.

13 4.9 Improve RM Results for load cases and envelops RM Results for load cases and envelops have been improved. Presenting Results are now simpler and easier with these improvements which are listed below: Complete description for each item in Header in Load Cases and Envelops For forces:

15 The rating report has been revised. Rating factor, Resistance, Dead Load, and Live Loads results are presented side by side with option to save as list file (*.lst) or Excel format (*.xls) in Action RateF. Sample report:

16 5. RM View Enhancements Support reactions and Traffic options are now available to be viewed in RM View.

17 6. Error Corrections The following errors have been corrected: Shear area calculation for asymmetric cross-section. The program had a limitation in calculating shear area for asymmetric cross-sections. The program was not considering the product of moment of inertia in calculating shear loads in the Laplace equation solution. There was a zero-wind response even when there was a fluctuating wind part in the transversal directions. This occurred due to a tolerance setting which was zeroing the response under a certain threshold. The derivative of lift and drag were incorrectly applied in buffeting load calculations leading to incorrect force and displacement calculation on members in some situations. Output list file for local and global direction has been corrected. RM View installation issue on Windows x32 has been fixed. The issue with generating plot files from SUP results have been fixed. ELMASE- Eccentric masses were not applied correctly in calculating the rotational inertia and this resulted in incorrect dynamic response of the structure subjected to these masses.
