4 Deploy on AWS or Azure in just 20 minutes with the MicroStrategy Cloud Console Introduction MicroStrategy is a powerful, enterprise-grade platform designed for building and deploying analytics, mobility, and security applications. MicroStrategy helps organizations inject intelligence into their users' daily workflows and harness the power of their enterprise data. This hands-on workshop is an introduction to MicroStrategy's cloud capabilities, with a focus on data analysis, security, and management. The workshop leverages both the MicroStrategy Cloud Console and MicroStrategy Workstation. In this workshop, you will: Learn about the necessary steps to deploy a cloud environment. Access MicroStrategy Workstation and connect to a cloud environment. Create users in MicroStrategy Workstation and provide them with environment access. Deploy a dossier to a cloud environment for sharing and collaboration. For this workshop, we will be using a cloud environment deployed on Amazon Web Services (AWS). The cloud console allows users to deploy on both AWS and Microsoft Azure. 4 MicroStrategy

5 MicroStrategy World 2019 Workshop Book Requirements To complete this workshop, you will need to have MicroStrategy Workstation installed on your computer. Your instructor will provide you with a link to download it. If you did not bring a laptop with you, if your laptop permissions prohibit you from downloading software, or you are otherwise unable to complete the necessary software installations, find a neighbor and form teams for the remainder of the workshop. MicroStrategy Cloud Console The MicroStrategy Cloud Console allows administrators to launch fully configured analytics, mobility, and HyperIntelligence projects on AWS or Azure with just a few clicks. Administrators can also use the MicroStrategy Cloud Console to manage and monitor their environments and help ensure uptime and scalability. Administrators can schedule tasks such as stopping and starting an environment for instance, stopping it during non-peak times to save on costs. Data Administration: MicroStrategy Workstation MicroStrategy Workstation is a unified tool that helps organizations administer 2019 MicroStrategy, Inc. MicroStrategy 5

Workstation combines the power of MicroStrategy Library, user management, and content authoring into a single user experience. You can connect Workstation to the MicroStrategy Cloud Console to create reporting objects, manage users and data access, and monitor and maintain your environment. Getting Started Your company, the Hole-in-One doughnut shop, has recently decided that they want to expand their business and open new stores. Before doing so, they want to analyze their operations and ensure that they can afford the proposed expansion. They know that the MicroStrategy platform can help them analyze their data, but they do not have the resources to commit to purchasing hardware and installing, maintaining, and updating a traditional on-premises platform deployment. The MicroStrategy Cloud Console provides an ideal solution that enables Hole-in-One to offload the platform management responsibilities. To help them develop datasets and maintain a single source of truth, Hole-in-One has decided to hire an Analytics Architect. The Analytics Architect will inspect the company s data and develop standards that help the organization create datasets in MicroStrategy. In addition, they have also hired an Application Architect to help them create visually appealing dossiers. The addition of these two roles, alongside the implementation of the MicroStrategy Cloud Console, will help the company produce reliable and visually appealing reporting objects that they can use to analyze their business and help it grow. Exercise 1: Configuring a cloud environment In this exercise, you will configure an environment that has been created for you prior to the class. This will allow you to receive an with the credentials 6 MicroStrategy

If you are interested in learning how to provision your own MicroStrategy on AWS environment, see Appendix A, Creating A Cloud Environment. Access the provisioning console 1. Navigate to the MicroStrategy Cloud Console at: 2. On the provisioning console login page, enter the credentials provided below: Username: Cloudmicrostrategy@gmail.com Password: workshopmstr! 3. Find the environment with the number that your instructor provided you with at the beginning of the workshop. 4. In the Actions section, select the ellipses icon and click Edit Contact. 5. In the Edit Contact Information window, replace the information in the boxes with your First Name, Last Name, and address. Then click Apply. You will receive an with your environment credentials. Make sure to use an address that you can readily access, as you will be sent an containing credentials that you need to complete this workshop. 6. You should receive an automated with environment information and MicroStrategy 7

Make sure you save the environment name (ENV-XXXXXX), username, and password somewhere you can easily access them. Note: If you would like to use Badge, please click on Tap here to get your badge and follow the prompts on your phone to get your badge. You will need to download the Badge app from the ios app store or Google play store. Click on the links within the to download it. Exercise 1.1: Access AWS environment with Workstation In this exercise, you will connect to an AWS environment through Workstation. This environment was created for you by your instructor. Access Workstation 1 In the Workstation window, click Environments. 8 MicroStrategy

9 MicroStrategy World 2019 Workshop Book 2 In the My MicroStrategy on AWS Environments, click Sign In. 3. Log in with the same credentials you used to log into the Cloud Console: a. Username: Cloudmicrostrategy@gmail.com b. Password: workshopmstr! 4. You should see environments start to show up locate your environment from the available options. MicroStrategy 9

You will be prompted to log in with either Badge or Standard authentication. 7. Your environment should now have a blue box around it, indicating that you have successfully connected to the environment. Exercise 2: Finish building and analyze a dossier in Workstation To determine whether Hole-in-One can expand its operations, you are going to create a dossier based on the standards developed by your MicroStrategy Application Architect. Dossiers help you organize data into a visually appealing format that can be quickly analyzed and evaluated. Access Workstation and your dossier 1. Make sure you have saved the Sales Dossier Start.mstr file on your desktop. Within Workstation, select the Dossier Tab. 12 MicroStrategy

13 MicroStrategy World 2019 Workshop Book Locate the Sales Dossier Start file under the My Mac section and double click to open it. The dossier will look like the picture below: Exercise 2.1: Add visualizations to the dossier To complete the dossier, you will use a natural language query (NLQ) to generate a visualization. NLQ enables you to quickly find insights by typing questions in simple, natural language. To help you identify a visualization that can answer your business questions, you will automatically generate visualizations based on the metrics and attributes in the dataset. Find revenue using NLQ 1. On the right-hand side of the top menu, select the Natural Language icon 2. Type What is the Revenue? and select the Revenue metric as shown below. Press Enter on your keyboard. A KPI visualization displaying the total revenue is generated. MicroStrategy 13

Select the newly created visualization by clicking on it and then drag and drop it to the left of Visualization 1 (Map). Create a derived metric Derived metrics those that analysts can create based on existing metrics within a report. A derived metric performs an on-the-fly calculation with the data available in a report, without re-executing the report against the data source, resulting in fast performance and reducing the demand on your data warehouse. 1. Click the Insert Visualization icon to create a fourth visualization. 2. Move the blank visualization so that it sits right under the other KPI visualization. Your dossier should now look like the following image: 14 MicroStrategy

15 MicroStrategy World 2019 Workshop Book 3. Click the KPI Widget icon in the Visualization Gallery on the right to change this visualization to a KPI widget. 4. In the Datasets panel, select both the Cost and Revenue metrics by holding the Ctrl (PC) or Command (Mac) and selecting the metrics. 5. Right-click the selected metrics, point to Calculation, and then select Revenue- Cost. This creates a new Revenue-Cost derived metric in your dataset. 6. Right-click the newly created (Revenue-Cost) metric and select Rename. Rename the metric to Profit and press Enter. MicroStrategy 15

Format dossier headers Clean up your dossier by renaming or removing headers as necessary. Rename the map and bar visualizations 1. Rename the visualizations by double-clicking their title bars and renaming them as follows: a. Visualization 1: Map b. Visualization 1 Copy: Revenue by Month 16 MicroStrategy

17 MicroStrategy World 2019 Workshop Book Remove the KPI headers In this example, the title bars for the KPI visualizations are not necessary, so we will hide them. 2. On the top-right corner of Visualization 2, click the Vertical Ellipsis, and select Hide Title bar. 3. Remove the title bar for the Revenue KPI visualization using the same step as above. Add dossier filters With MicroStrategy, it is possible to use one visualization as a filter for another allowing users to create interactive workflows within their dossiers. 1. At the top right of the Map visualization, select the Ellipsis, and then click Select Targets. MicroStrategy 17

18 Deploy on AWS or Azure in just 20 minutes with the MicroStrategy Cloud Console Click all of the other visualizations within the dossier so that the Target icon displays on the top-left of each visualization. 2. Click Apply. Click any state in the Map visualization. The KPI widgets and bar chart change automatically depending on which state you select. Click the state again to remove the selection. 3. Save your dossier by clicking Save As. Save it as Sales Dossier_[your initials]. 18 MicroStrategy

19 MicroStrategy World 2019 Workshop Book You have now completed your dossier. Other users across your organization have also built other dossiers in their own siloed environments. The Cloud Console allows you to easily share and manage these formerly disparate analytical assets. Exercise 2.2: Create a user in Workstation Now that you have completed your dossier, you want to share your analyses with others in your organization. MicroStrategy Workstation s user management capabilities make it simple to add users and user groups to your environment. This will allow you to get insightful feedback on your work from others, collaborate in real time, and ensure that your dossier presents a trusted, single version of the truth. Verify environment connection 1. Select Window, on the top menu, and select the Workstation MicroStrategy Workstation -Dossiers. 2. From the Manage section, select Environments. Ensure that your environment shows a status of: Connected. Create a user 1. In the manage section on the left-hand panel, click the + sign and select Create User. 2. When prompted with the Create New User window, team up with a neighbor and exchange information. Be sure to provide a valid address and note the user credentials that you enter. a. Environment: This will be automatically populated with your environment name. b. Full Name: Provide the first and last name of your neighbor. c. Address: Provide a valid address. MicroStrategy 19

20 Deploy on AWS or Azure in just 20 minutes with the MicroStrategy Cloud Console d. Login ID: Create a login ID e. Password: Create a simple password, as the new user will change this. f. If you want the user to change their password at the next login, select the User must change password at next login checkbox. Configure user access and roles 1. In the Create New User window, select the Application Access & Roles tab. 2. For the MicroStrategy Tutorial application, from the Roles drop down, select the Consumer role. 20 MicroStrategy 3. Click OK, then click Create User MicroStrategy, Inc.

21 MicroStrategy World 2019 Workshop Book Exercise 3: Share and collaborate in Library You want to share the insights you have gained from your dossier with others in your organization. MicroStrategy Library provides a virtual bookshelf for sharing, commenting, and collaboration on dossiers. Save and send your dossier to Library 1. In Workstation, click Dossiers on the left-hand panel. 2. From the My PC or My Mac section, locate and right-click your Sales Dossier_[your initials] dossier and select Send to Libraries. Note: You may see a message saying that you must save the dossier to an environment before sending to library. Click Save to Environment. 3. In the next window, rename your dossier SalesDossierStart_[Your Initials]. Save your dossier to your My Shared Dossiers folder 4. Double-click on the MicroStrategy Tutorial folder MicroStrategy, Inc. MicroStrategy 21

22 Deploy on AWS or Azure in just 20 minutes with the MicroStrategy Cloud Console 5. From the MicroStrategy Tutorial folder, navigate to the My Personal Objects folder. Certify your dossier 6. Before saving, you want to certify your dossier to let others know that it meets corporate data and branding standards. Next to Save As, select the Certified Dossier checkbox. Note: On a PC, you will see Save and Send. Send to user s libraries 7. A notification window appears. Type the user name you created earlier in this workshop and select that user. 22 MicroStrategy

23 MicroStrategy World 2019 Workshop Book 8. Before sending the dossier, select Copy Link to copy the link to the dossier in your Library. 9. Click Send. Exercise 3.1: View and collaborate on your dossier in Library You now want to view your dossier and leave a message to collaborate with a colleague in Library. In this exercise, feel free to work with a neighbor and leave comments for one another. 1. Go to your web browser and paste the link you copied above. MicroStrategy 23

After you have selected a new password, click Done. You should now be viewing your dossier in Library. Collaborate with another user 1 Click the Comment icon on the right to open the Comments window. 2 Using command, tag the user next to you, write them a message, and then click Post. Exercise 4: Explore the MicroStrategy Cloud Console Now that Hole-in-One has completed their analysis and shared their findings with relevant stakeholders, they want to understand how they can maintain their MicroStrategy environment in the cloud. The MicroStrategy Cloud Console lets users launch fully configured analytics 24 MicroStrategy

25 MicroStrategy World 2019 Workshop Book projects and maintain full control over their environments dynamically starting, stopping, resizing, or terminating instances as needed. This web-based console provides a unified location for platform administrators and users to manage environments. Access the provisioning console and locate your environment 1. Navigate to Log in using the credentials provided below: Username: Cloudmicrostrategy@gmail.com Password: workshopmstr! Notice the state of the environment. It is currently Running. To the right you can stop, reboot, or resize the environment. Don t click anything just yet. You will see a list of the current environments you have access to. Notice the following areas: A search area to quickly locate an environment by name, owner, or number. A button to create a new environment. A notification area with new messages about your environments. An area with vital statistics for each environment and a menu for commands to manage this specific environment. 2. Locate your environment and click the + icon to expand the details for this environment. MicroStrategy 25

26 Deploy on AWS or Azure in just 20 minutes with the MicroStrategy Cloud Console Exercise 4.1: Add Cloud collaborators The expansion analysis is going well, and you need to get some help managing the virtual environment. The Cloud Console allows you to add collaborators to manage an environment. Add collaborators 1. In the console, locate your environment. Click the ellipsis ( ) next to the Stop icon to see other commands. Select Add Collaborators. The Environment Collaborators window opens. 26 MicroStrategy

27 MicroStrategy World 2019 Workshop Book 2. Get the address of another workshop participant (your neighbor, for example), or from the instructor. 3. Enter that address in the Environment Collaborators window. You can make a person a collaborator (limited rights) or an administrator (rights similar to the environment owner). 4. Click Send Invitation. A new line appears in the window as shown below. This is where you can manage the collaborator s privileges. Meanwhile, the user receives the following When the user follows this link to accept the invitation, the console reflects the change with a notification, a change in the Collaborators window, and a new MicroStrategy 27

28 Deploy on AWS or Azure in just 20 minutes with the MicroStrategy Cloud Console symbol next to the owner name for the environment. Exercise 4.2: Scheduling tasks and resizing environments Depending on your organization s work schedule, you will likely experience periods of heavy system usage and slowdowns. For example, analysts may execute most of their reports on weekday mornings and may not use the system at all after 5PM on Fridays. To deliver top performance during peak usage periods, you can resize your system. To reduce waste, you can even schedule the system to shut down at a specific time. Adjust the environment schedule 1. Return to the Cloud Console. Locate the environment with the number assigned to you at the beginning of this workshop. 2. Next to your environment name, click the Plus icon. 3. Click the Scheduler tab to view the current schedule. Right now, the environment is set to shut down at 6pm EST daily. Let s set up our own schedule. 4. Click Stop on today s date in the calendar view. A pencil and an X icon appear click the X. 28 MicroStrategy

29 MicroStrategy World 2019 Workshop Book 5. The Delete Series window displays, prompting you to confirm if you want to delete the entire series from your calendar. Click Confirm. Notice that all the red stop tasks disappear from the calendar. 6. On the left side in the Schedule an Event drop-down list, select Reboot. Select Once and select today s date. Feel free to schedule any stop time you would like. 7. Click Add. Notice a that a new task appears on your calendar. Your environment will now reboot at the scheduled time. MicroStrategy 29

30 Deploy on AWS or Azure in just 20 minutes with the MicroStrategy Cloud Console Resize your environment The current specs for the pilot environment are no longer sufficient to meet your needs. You need more RAM and CPU power to satisfy all the new users that have been enrolled in the pilot. With the MicroStrategy Cloud Console, it is easy to quickly scale up or down an environment. In this exercise, you will modify the current configuration of your environment. 1. Locate your environment in the console, click the ellipsis menu and select Resize. 2. In the Resize window, select 4 vcpus 30.5 GiB of Memory from the dropdown. Notice the adjustment in pricing per day shows up immediately to assist in your decision. 3. Click Resize. The environment must stop and restart to adjust to the new specs. Extra Credit: Extend data discovery with HyperIntelligence MicroStrategy 2019 introduces HyperIntelligenceÔ, the biggest breakthrough in the world of analytics since Mobile. HyperIntelligence makes Zero-Click Intelligence a reality for every user throughout the organization from salespeople and business analysts to executives and front-line employees. Developers can use Workstation to quickly build and deploy cards a brand-new object available in MicroStrategy 2019 designed for use with the MicroStrategy HyperIntelligence extension in Google Chrome. 30 MicroStrategy

31 MicroStrategy World 2019 Workshop Book When a user hovers over a highlighted item on a web page, a KPI card with key information is displayed, as shown in the Google search below: HyperIntelligence can be viewed in a variety of ways depending on the context. For example, a sales representative at a television production company can access key account information while typing up notes during a meeting with her manager. A supply chain manager can view product details to better manage his inventory numbers. Instead of logging into multiple systems to get the data they need, these users can simply leverage cards to embed in-line analytics in their web-based applications such as Salesforce and Office 365. Additionally, HyperIntelligence can be used to augment analysis within a dossier or another web-based analytical tool. Users simply hover over highlighted keywords to pull up related cards without needing to navigate to another dossier page, or log into another system. In this activity, you will install the Chrome plug-in and view a card in action, leveraging the data you used in this workshop to extend your analysis. Add the HyperIntelligence extension to your Chrome browser 1. Navigate to in Google Chrome. 2. Search for MicroStrategy in the search bar and press Enter. 3. Click Add to Chrome on the MicroStrategy HyperIntelligence extension. In the pop-up dialog box, click Add extension (or Add to Chrome). MicroStrategy 31

32 Deploy on AWS or Azure in just 20 minutes with the MicroStrategy Cloud Console You will be notified that HyperIntelligence has been added to your Chrome browser and the MicroStrategy logo will show up on your toolbar. 4. Connect your plug-in to the MicroStrategy Cloud environment. Click the MicroStrategy logo on the toolbar and enter the following environment URL: customer.cloud.microstrategy.com/MicroStrategyLibrary Note: You may need to reconfigure the card to point to the above URL. Click on the Settings icon and change the URL. 5. Click Continue. 6. Type hyper for the username and hyper for the password, then click Log In. 7. Locate the AWS Card from the list of available cards and toggle it on. Notice the Certified badge next to each card. Cards, like dossiers, are certified to help maintain a single version of truth and adhere to your Intelligence Enterprise s data governance policies. Certifying a card also allows it to be distributed to other users. 32 MicroStrategy

Create your cloud environment 1 Access the Cloud Console by navigating to the following URL and entering the credentials provided below: Username: cloudmicrostrategy@gmail.com Password: workshopmstr! 2 Click Select under the Team edition to create the Team environment.
