HP Virtual Server Environment for HP OpenVMS Integrity systems HP Virtual Server Environment Intelligent control HP Systems Insight Manager HP Integrity Essentials Capacity Advisor (Future) HP Integrity Essentials Virtualization Manager (Future) HP Integrity Essentials Global Workload Manager Partitioning Hard Partitions Full electrical isolation HP Integrity Virtual Machines (Future) Virtual servers Availability OpenVMS Clusters Up to 96 nodes, all active Mixed Integrity systems and AlphaServers Utility Pricing HP Instant Capacity HP Temporary Instant Capacity HP Pay Per Use Global Instant Capacity (Future) 8 5 March 2008 Objectives: To highlight HP s specific VSE solution for OpenVMS Integrity Servers Notes: Let s take a look at the specific solution HP offers today. HP Systems Insight Manager is the central console for the planning, integration, configuration and automation of your virtualized environment. SIM has recently been enhanced with Capacity Advisor and Virtualization Manager, as well as an improved global Workload Manager We have enhanced our partitioning capability with virtual machines, which we ll discuss in a moment We offer three utility pricing solutions, including pay-per-use for leased systems as well as instant capacity, allowing you to add resources as you grow, and temporary instant capacity, for systems with high levels of demand fluctuation. HP will offer attractive licensing terms for OpenVMS in virtualized systems These solutions take the complexity out of managing a virtualized environment. In the rest of this presentation, we will look closely at the details of the VSE solution.

Virtualization Roadmap Global Workload Manager gwlm V1.1-4 (icap support) Integrity & Alpha Global Workload Manager V4.0 TiCAP & GiCAP integration icap - Instant Capacity V8.0 and TiCAP with OpenVMS 8.3 PPU Pay Per Use V8.0 Active CPU & Percent CPU, both with OpenVMS 8.3 Capacity Advisor Virtualization Manager VSE Management GUI V4.0 All with OpenVMS 8.4 HPVM Integrity Virtual Machine V4 GiCAP - Global Instant Capacity V All implementations Integrity only unless otherwise specified penvms Virtual Server Environment (VSE) 9 5 March 2008 Subject to change without notice he goal of HP s Virtual Server Environment is to enable customers to get more useful processing out of their compute resources. HP and Industry ustomer studies show that most systems are utilised less than 30% of the time and even then may not be able to cope with peaks during Month End or the hristmas Rush. This is partly due to the compartmentalization of computers into fixed and rigid tasks typically one system to one application preventing he pooling of resources to cope with the peaks. Virtualization allows customers to view their compute resources as a shared pool with HP VSE software utomatically distributing workloads across the pool ensuring SLAs are met. As well as these real time, automatic scheduling capabilities HP s Utility Pricing olutions, Instant Capacity and Pay Per Use, ensure customers only pay for what they use over the lifetime of the systems. lobal Workload Manager gwlm gwlm for OpenVMS Integrity and Alpha enables the following: Potential for much improved utilization of Integrity or Alpha CPUs across multiple work streams, managing multiple systems and clusters Automatic CPU resource allocation to satisfy Service Level Agreements of multiple Business Units, based on IS Management defined policies Intuitive management from GUI and comprehensive reporting tools. WLM benefits Lower cost solution than purchasing additional CPUs to satisfy increasing work load demands As workloads grow, gwlm restricts the escalation of hardware maintenance, service, operating system, floor space, electricity and air conditioning co Reduces 3rd Party software costs as CPU count is kept to a minimum WLM Central Management Server (CMS) is capable of managing scores of heterogeneous (OpenVMS, HP-UX and Linux) gwlm server agents on ultiple systems from a single console. It runs on Systems Insight Manager, SIM. CMS is available on Windows XP, HP-UX and Linux workstations. Both CM nd SIM are free downloads. irtual Machine HPVM Virtual Machine enables multiple applications to be processed on one CPU with fine granularity and the following benefits: bility to run multiple applications on a single CPU; Resource allocation on a per-application basis; Security isolation between applications; Fault isolation etween applications; Resource accounting on a per-application basis. HPVM is also the Platform Manager or Hypervisor, based on the HP-UX Kernel, hosti he other Itanium operating systems including OpenVMS, that will automatically benefit from these advantages. A pre-requisite for HPVM is Intel ontecito/montvale processor support. ote that OpenVMS Process on AlphaServer and Itanium already delivers: Ability to run multiple applications on a single CPU; Resource allocation on a er-application basis; Security isolation between applications; Fault isolation between applications; Resource accounting on a per-application basis on tandalone or clustered OpenVMS systems. nstant Capacity on Demand icap enables those customers that purchase systems in preference to leasing, to acquire over-configured systems from ay one and only pay a a small percentage of the price of those CPUs not activated at the outset. Over time, as demand grows, customers can turn on dditional CPUs without having to stop the system and only then pay the balance for those CPUs. emporary Instant Capacity on Demand TiCAP enables customers to acquire a 30 CPU day activity license, allowing them to turn on the extra apacity in their systems for 30 CPU days with a granularity of 30 minutes. At the end of the 30 CPU days customers may acquire another TiCAP license, ermanently activate temporary CPUs through icap or turn off the icap CPUs. TiCAP is proving very popular with HP-UX customers as it s very cost-effective or coping with expected and unexpected resource demands. lobal Instant Capacity GiCAP scheduled to ship in early 2008, enables customers to move icap resources across a cluster or systems on the netwo hereby allocating CPU resources to where they re need throughout the working day or 24/7. ay Per Use PPU applicable for leased systems through HP Leasing only, enables customers to only pay for the CPU resources that they use on a onthly basis. Active CPU continuously monitors how many CPUs are active at any given moment and the customer is charged for the aggregated average sage per month. Independent Software Vendors prefer this style of PPU licensing. Percent CPU continuously monitors the percentage CPU utilisation acros he whole CPU population with all CPUs permanently active. Once again the customer is only charged for the aggregated percent utilisation per month. ustomers tend to prefer Percent CPU as all CPUs are active at all times improving response times to all applications. apacity Advisor enables system managers to perform what-if analyses on systems across the network based on historically gathered data, highlighting here performance can be optimised by shifting workloads. This tool is good for assessing the impact of adding a new work stream, re-organising system onfigurations, upgrading systems, splitting workloads etc.. irtualization Manager, Visualization and VM Manager greatly ease the management of multiple systems running heterogeneous operating ystems (OpenVMS, HP-UX, Linux and Windows64) and Virtual Machines across the network presenting a graphical view of CPU, Memory, Network, Disk & M utilisation and gwlm policies. The system manager or administrator can drill down to low levels to ascertain the performance of any and all workloads n any system in the network. SE Management Server V4.0 currently runs on Windows, HP-UX and Linux and will manage OpenVMS systems when the server components are vailable. alaxy/vpars on Integrity - Galaxy will not be ported to Integrity. Soft Partitioning that Galaxy delivers on AlphaServer is accomplished with Virtual achine on Integrity.

OpenVMS Cluster & LAN HW Roadmap V8.3 Improved Mixed-Architecture Alpha/Integrity Clusters Integrity Server Satellite Boot Support Compression of SCS traffic VLAN support 10 Gigabit NIC support (Integrity only) OpenVMS V8.3-1H1 10 Gigabit Ethernet NIC (update) PCI-express support: 1 Gigabit Ethernet NIC 4-port Gigabit Ethernet Mezzanine card 10 5 March 2008 Subject to change without notice V8.4 Cluster Interconnect Update Clusters over TCP/IP Protocol 2 node shared SAS cluster support New Cluster Interconnect (Post V8.4) Investigation of Nextgeneration Low-Latency Interconnect (RDMA-based) (Integrity Servers Only) OpenVMS Integrity Nodes can simply be added into existing Clusters! With the support of OpenVMS for Integrity Servers, an OpenVMS cluster can have both Alpha and Integrity nodes in the same cluster, using the same interconnects (LAN/Gigabit/10/100) and same shared storage (FC Switched). Same data format exists in either architecture, so there are no restrictions on storage connections! A truly evolutionary view for including OpenVMS for Integrity Servers into your production environment! Only Alpha and Integrity nodes are fully supported together in a cluster. Adding VAX systems into such a cluster is not supported, but is allowed for the purposes of development and migration, with the intent of removing the VAX systems from the cluster once the work is complete. See the cluster SPD for further details. Integrity Server Shared SCSI Cluster support with V8.2-1, 2 Integrity servers can share common SCSI storage within an OpenVMS cluster through the use of existing U320 SCSI adapters and the new MSA30 mi (Multi-Initiator) shelf. This is a very specific 2-node configuration, refer to the OpenVMS Guidelines to Cluster Configuration manual for the specific details. Support of Clusters over TCP/IP Planned for OpenVMS V8.4 is support of the passing of SCS (host-to-host cluster communication) over the TCP/IP protocol through existing LAN adapters (rather than a specific SCS protocol as is true today). This allows DT customers expanded flexibility in terms of long-distance cluster communications options. New Cluster Interconnect New IC Technologies OpenVMS will be working on support for the latest low-latency interconnect technologies, targeted at the Integrity Servers only. Current thinking is that RDMA/iWARP technologies are candidates, although the goal is to align the VMS support to the solution that will be embraced by the other HP O/S environments so a standard interconnect model is used. LAN Hardware (NIC) support Ethernet will continue to be a focal point as a cluster Interconnect and LAN device. New devices like PCIe and 4 port Mezzanine LAN cards for blades were rolled out with OpenVMS V8.3-1H1. There will be continued new cards both Stand up and Mezzanine that will be supported.

UNIX Portability Roadmap OpenVMS V8.3 Symbolic Links POSIX style pathnames Byte range locking Encryption routines GNV update OpenVMS V8.4 Symlinks Logical Name support Semaphores Shared write for stream files (SSIO) ioctl() GNV update Shared memory APIs POSIX LNM Pathname SDK Support for OpenVMS V8.2-1 & V8.3 GNV update 12 5 March 2008 Subject to change without notice In VMS 8.3, the full Symbolic links support was delivered and Byte Range Locking is also introduced with a 4Gigabyte limit for our initial implementation. Post VMS 8.3, an SDK will be delivered for POSIX style pathnames to support the Symbolic names and to implement a true UNIX tree. This SDK will support OpenVMS and 8.3 and will include an update to GNV. In future releases of OpenVMS, the CRTL and the Base Operating systems will continue to be changed to support major Unix functions. A list of investigations is provided. Semaphores are similar to VMS locking and is used to coordinating or synchronizing activities in which multiple processes compete for the same operating system resources. Shared Write for Stream files allows for two processes to have coordinated write access to the same file. GNV (Gnu Not VMS) is the Unix shell and utilities for OpenVMS. With OpenVMS V8.3, there have been significant improvements to the Make file capability as well as support for Symbolic links and POSIX style pathnames. GNV will continue to be expanded over time so that Unix developers will be able to port applications to OpenVMS like any other flavor of UNIX.

Many third parties provide client-based solutions, or something that is OpenVMS BACKUP Utility based. We have chosen here to list the HP-produced solutions and those solutions which support a true Heterogeneous environment. Choice is the keyword here there is no recommended solution only one that meets the customer need for enterprise backup/restoration.. HP OpenView Data Protector This HP-provided Data Protection product suite introduced support for OpenVMS in the Summer of The initial offering provided both the Media Agent and Disk Agent for OpenVMS allowing backup/restoration of OpenVMS data from an OpenVMS host but still requiring a server on another non-openvms platform to control cataloging, backup control, etc. HP OpenView Data Protector provided support for the Oracle backup agent and the Integrity server port in H1 2006, and plans to support for the Oracle Rdb backup agent in H1 2007; Also under investigation is the potential for an OpenVMS-based server. This product will be offered as a part of the overall Data Protector product suite. Legato NetWorker support In Q4 2002, Legato delivered an OpenVMS client and storage node - the first heterogeneous offering of it s kind for OpenVMS. This deliverable allows a Legato server (on a non-openvms node) to initiate and control a backup/restoration activity on an OpenVMS system, where the data is moved to tape directly to/from the OpenVMS system (no network data movement required). This offering is a part of the larger NetWorker product suite. In Q2 2004, Legato introduced new functionality allowing support of ODS-5 storage devices and Oracle/Oracle Rdb backup agents. The port of NetWorker to Integrity servers was released in H Down the road, the potential for an OpenVMS-based server will be investigated. We will provide new releases of both DECnet-Plus and DECnet Phase IV for each new release of the OpenVMS Operating System. Plans are to follow the OpenVMS V8.4 release schedule. To accommodate customers who wish to take advantage of a single network backbone, but have older applications that depend on the DECnet protocols (NSP or OSI), we recommend DECnet over TCP/IP (DECnet Plus), which allows you to send the DECnet protocols over a wide area TCP/IP network backbone. X.25 for OpenVMS X.25 V2.0 is available on Alpha and Integrity. NIC s for Integrity servers will not be supported. We recommend X.25 over IP in support of Integrity servers. X.25 V2.0 supports OpenVMS V8.3 and V8.3-1H1 of the O/S and will follow the release schedule of OpenVMS V8.4 Device Drivers The PBXDD X.25 NIC will continue to be supported on Alpha (2 & 4 port NICs). The PBXDD will not support Integrity. Alternative approaches exist (X.25 over IP, etc) versus porting a driver and support of new synch cards. X.25 V2.0 supports Integrity over IP as of H but not via a NIC.
