1 INTRODUCTION 1.1 Summary This technical bulletin gives all information needed for the FLYchip 2K integration into customer RFID solutions. The FLYchip 2K is a highly integrated single chip UHF RFID Tag IC. The chip conforms to the EPCglobal Class 1 Gen 2 protocol (ISO C), and therefore capable of identify speeds of up to 200 tags per second. FLYchip 2k operates at extremely low power levels, and read and write performance is enhanced by optimized antenna approach, affording insensitivity to tag orientation and overall robust operation. FLYchip 2k offers maximum 1.5k bits User memory for widely application. User memory can write locked on 128 bits boundaries, supporting a variety of public/private usage models. To preserve privacy and prevent unauthorized tampering, FLYchip 2k also features a kill switch with secure 32-bit password protection. All statements, technical information and recommendations contained in this document are based on tests or experiences that MAINtag believes are reliable. However, many factors beyond MAINtag s control may affect the use and performance of a MAINtag product in a specific application. That includes the conditions under which the product is used and the time and environmental conditions in which the product is expected to perform. Since these factors are unique, specifically related to an application and are know by the user, it is critical that the user evaluate the MAINtag FLYtag product to determine whether it is fully compliant with the particular purpose and suitable for the user s application. For all technical requests about FLYchip 2K range please contact MAINtag support at: support@maintag.fr For all commercial requests about FLYchip 2K range please contact MAINtag at: sales@maintag.fr

6 FONCTIONNEL DESCRIPTIONS 6.1 Communication The air interface between Interrogator and Tag is similar to the physical layer in a network communication system. The air interface defines frequencies, modulation, data coding, RF envelope, data rates, and other parameters for RF communications Operation Frequency Tags air interface and power are embedded within the interrogator frequency range from 840 MHz to 960 MHz Interrogator-to-Tag (R=>T) communications Interrogator-to-Tag (R=>T) communications refers to [C1G2] section Tag-to-Interrogator (T=>R) communications Tag-to-Interrogator (T=>R) communications refer to [C1G2] section Transmission order Transmission order refers to [C1G2] section Cyclic-redundancy check (CRC) Cyclic-redundancy check (CRC) refers to [C1G2] section Link timing Link timing refers to [C1G2] section

6.2 Tag Memory Tag memory shall be logically separated into four distinct banks. Each of which may comprise zero or more memory words. A logical memory map is shown in Table.2. Table 2 : Memory mapping Bank Address (hexa) Description Memory type Size (bits) Reserved 00h-1Fh Kill password NVM 32 20h-3Fh Access password NVM 32 EPC 00h-0Fh CRC-16 NVM 16 10h-1Fh PC NVM 16 20h-20Fh EPC NVM 496 TID 00h-7Fh UID and Manufacturer data ROM 128 User 000h-5FFh User read/write data NVM 1536 Operations in one logical memory bank shall not access memory locations in another bank. Memory writes, detailed in section [C1G2] involve the transfer of 16-bit words from Interrogator to Tag. A Write command writes 16 bits (i.e. one word) at a time, using link cover-coding to obscure the data during R=>T transmission. Interrogators may lock, permanently lock, unlock, or permanently unlock memory, thereby preventing or allowing subsequent changes (as appropriate). The kill and access passwords are individually lockable, as are EPC, TID, and User memory. If the kill and/or access passwords are locked they are usable by only the Kill and Access commands, respectively, and are rendered both unwriteable and unreadable by any other command. The EPC, TID, and User memory banks are always readable regardless of their lock status.

6.2.1 Reserved Memory (00 bin) Reserved memory contains the kill, access passwords. The kill password shall be stored at memory addresses 00h to 1Fh; the access password shall be stored at memory addresses 20h to 3Fh Kill password The kill password is a 32-bit value stored in reserved memory 00h to 1Fh, MSB first. The default (unprogrammed) value shalll be zero. An interrogator shall use a kill password once, to kill the Tag and render it no responsive thereafter. A Tag shall not execute a kill operation if its kill password is zero. A Tag that does not implement a kill password operates as if it has a zero-valued kill password that is permanently read/write locked Access password The access password is a 32-bit value stored in reserved memory 20h to 3Fh, MSB first. The default (unprogrammed) value shall be zero. A Tag with a nonzero access password shall require an Interrogator to issue this password before transitioning to the secured state. A Tag that does not implement an access password operates as if it has a zero-valued access password that is permanently read/write locked EPC memory (01 bin) EPC memory contains a CRC-16 at memory addresses 00h to 0Fh, PC bits at memory locations 10h to 1Fh, an EPC beginning at address 20h, and EPC total up to 496bits (excludee CRC and PC) CRC 16 CRC16 refer to [C1G2] chapter PC (Protocol control word) PC refer to [C1G2] chapter FLYchip 2K use method 1 for UMI bit (15h). (this bit is ignored when PC is written by the Interrogator). FLYchip 2K do not support XPC. XPC bit (16H) shall always be de-asserted (set to 0b when written). FLYchip 2K default (unprogrammed) PC is 3000h EMEA ASIA // 8 rue Edouard Vallerand, Saint Maur des Fossé (0) Fax : + 33 (0) AMERICAS // One Securities Center Suite Piedmont road - Atlanta, GA R.C.S. If FLYchip 2K received kill command, it ignores the recommissioning bits and treats them as though they were zero, meaning that, if FLYchip 2K receives a properly formatted kill command sequence with the correct kill password it kills itself dead regardless of the values of the recommissioning bits Lock (mandatory) Lock command refer to [C1G2] section

BlockPermalock (optional) BlockPermalock command refer to [C1G2] section In FLYchip 2k Block Permalockcommand should only handle Membank=11, and if Membank not equal 11, tag should ignore and instead backscatter error code. The error code is compliant with [C1G2] Annex I. In BlockPermalock command operation the block size is 8h and block address are multiple of 8h (as shown in Table.4). In FLYchip 2k Blockpermlock command, only BlockPtr = 0 and BlockRange = 1 can be specified. There are 12 blocks in FLYchip 2k. And the Tag operates on 12 blocks starting at block- 0 and ending at block-11, Permalocking those blocks whose corresponding bits are asserted in Mask. The 4 less significant bits are ignored in the 16bit mask (corresponding to non existing blocks).
