6 Preface Basic Input/Output System (also known as BIOS) is a firmware program stored on a chip in the system mainboard. Introduction BIOS Setup is a text-based utility that allows the user to configure the system and view current settings and environment information for the platform devices. The Setup utility controls the platform s built-in devices, the Boot Manager and Error Manager. About this Manual This manual contains information about the system BIOS and discusses how to configure the system by changing the settings of the BIOS parameters. Chapter 1 contains information regarding the BIOS setup, hotkeys, menu bar and navigation keys. Chapters 2 to 8 contain detailed description of the BIOS menus, submenus and functions. Chapter 9 lists the POST Code Table. Chapter 10 shows the BIOS recovery and update methods. 6 Wiwynn SV100G2 BIOS User Manual

77 10. BIOS Recovery and Flash Update 10.1 BIOS Recovery Recovery is a BIOS function that allows the user to update or change the BIOS programmed into a flash part. For recovery to work, the BIOS must have the Boot Block section of the BIOS in a non-corrupted state. This means that BIOS will execute normally through the Boot Block phase of execution. If this is not possible, then the code used to perform a recovery may also be corrupted and therefore unreliable to properly execute. With the current implementation, the BIOS can detect if there is corrupt code in the flash part and it can automatically enter into a recovery mode. The recovery processes are listed below. 1 Once recovery mode has been invoked, the system will attempt to find the BIOS update file on the different media types that are enabled during porting. 2 Once the BIOS Update file has been found, the system will load that image into memory and boot from the new recovery image. 3 The boot process then automatically brings up a Setup page to start the recovery process. 4 If built with non-interactive mode, the BIOS will immediately start programming the recovery image into the flash part. If built with interactive mode, the Setup Screen will prompt the user with the option to program the recovery image with or without clearing the NVRAM area. 5 The default mode for the recovery module is set to interactive mode. Wiwynn SV100G2 BIOS User Manual 77

78 BIOS Recovery Instructions If any abnormal shutdown occurs during BIOS update and resulted in an incomplete update, the system will not power-on normally. Perform the following steps to recover the BIOS: 1 Copy HEITZ.ROM to the root directory of a USB key or hard disk drive with NTFS partition. 2 Reboot the system to perform auto recovery. 3 Enter the Setup menu Recovery page. 4 Set "Reset NVRAM" as "Enabled". 5 Set "Boot block update" as "Enabled". 6 Set "Main block update" as "Enabled". 7 Select Proceed with flash update then it will start flash update process. 8 Wait for 2-5 minutes to complete the flash update. 9 Reboot the system and observe if SUT boots normally. NOTE: If Boot Block crashes, this indicates that the system is unrecoverable. 78 Wiwynn SV100G2 BIOS User Manual

79 10.2 BIOS Flash Update For updating the BIOS, AMI provides independent BIOS vendor (IBV) utilities such as AFULNX for Linux-based OS and AFUWIN for Windows-based OS. Follow these steps to update the BIOS: 1 Use the flash command: AMIAFU filename.bin /X /B /P /K /N /ME For example: /afulnx_64 BWDE_E08.bin /X /B /P /K /N /ME (CentOS) 2 Reboot the system.
