7 About LomaNet What Is LomaNet This PC-based software package collects reports from the range of Spectrum equipment, and displays the reports on screen. Once at the PC the reports can be safely viewed, stored and archived or printed as and when required. The last report received is displayed on the screen of the Designated LomaNet Computer using the Report Capture programme (LomaNetCapture). All reports can be viewed, using the Report Viewer (LomaNetReporter) by any PC running LomaNet Reporter & networked with the Designated LomaNet Computer. A search facility is included to track reports by type e.g. PVS, Batch, by Machine ID and date. Once found an individual report can be viewed or printed or a range of reports can be printed. Archiving of reports can be automatic or manual. The LomaNet Report Capture software can only be installed onto the Designated LomaNet Computer whereas the Report Viewer may be installed onto any PC that is networked with the Designated LomaNet Computer. System Overview There are two versions of LomaNet. An independent network made up from a series of LomaNet modules connected together in a daisy chain utilising its own network cable and connections. An Ethernet networked version that via serial to Ethernet modules can be integrated into an existing standard Ethernet network. System Requirements for LomaNet (Capture & Viewer) Any PC onto which LomaNetCapture or LomaNetReporter (Ethernet networked version) is to be installed must be running Microsoft XP operating system. Any PC onto which LomaNetCapture or LomaNetReporter (LomaNet Module version) is to be installed can be running Microsoft 95, 98, NT, 2000 or XP operating systems. XP systems must have the "My music folder deleted from the account into which the software is installed. LomaNet Module System only. The short date format for year found in Settings/Control Panel/Regional Settings/Date; must be set for yyyy. Continental versions of operating systems must have the Decimal Symbol found in Settings/Control Panel/Regional Settings/Number set to a dot. It is mandatory to disable power saving programmes for the capture computer. Power saving programmes can be found in Settings/Control Panel/Power. Windows compatible Printer (can be a networked printer). LomaNet User Guide Page 7 of 25

9 Report Capture LomaNetCapture Introduction This chapter provides an introduction to LomaNetCapture the report capture software that is installed on the Designated LomaNet Computer. Getting Started Last Report Capture Screen The report capture programme consists of a main viewing screen that displays the last report received. Access to available set up functions is restricted by use of a two-tier password control system. The level of control available that can be exercised by any operator is dependent upon the account the operator has been designated. Administrator Account Is the highest access level available and typically would be assigned to the Quality Control/Assurance manager. The Service Engineer will set up the Administrator account at the time of software installation. When logged on as an Administrator account the following functions are accessible. Set up of Supervisor accounts Any number of operators can be given this level of access each with their own unique name and password. It is advised to limit access at this level. LomaNet User Guide Page 9 of 25

24 Report Viewer Archiving Tips As with any PC data collection system, good house keeping routines are required. LomaNet requires that the database is regularly compacted and that reports are regularly archived. The following measures should be adopted: 1. The current report database should be archived regularly, using the LomaNet archive function. The database can be archived to a floppy disc, or any hard disk connected to the system. As a guide for storage device sizing, each report takes on average about 1Kbyte of memory. For example; for a system connecting 10 Checkweighers together producing hourly batch records, running 24 hours per day, 10x24x7x1K = 1.68Mbytes of storage capacity will be required for each archive that takes place. For all but the simplest of systems, archiving to a floppy disk is, therefore, not a practical long-term solution. 2. If the database is archived to the local hard disc, then copies, or some other sort of backup, should regularly be made to an alternative medium (a single storage device should not be used for such important information, as if it fails, all the information will be lost). It is the users responsibility to put in place effective backup procedures, and to make sure that archives on the local hard disk are deleted sufficiently often to ensure that the hard disk does not fill up. 3. The LomaNet application should be closed down and the PC rebooted at least monthly to ensure that the database is compacted. LomaNet compacts the database each time it is started. Viewing Reports from earlier versions of LomaNet LomaNet V3.1 is superseding an earlier version of LomaNet. The actions detailed below must be carried out before the older version is uninstalled. Although earlier versions of LomaNet used different database versions, reports are saved as ASCII text files. To view reports from earlier versions simply save all reports to Archive using the earlier version LomaNet. Copy all Archive directories from the old directory (C:\Program Files\Loma\LomaNet\Reportsdirectory) into the new LomaNet 3.1 Archive directory on the Capture PC (C:\Program Files\LomaNet\Archive\) using Windows Explorer. The reports can then be viewed as archive reports using LomaNet 3.1. When viewing reports prior to January 2000 the date must be typed into the date box because the date picker only rolls back to January Using LomaNet Reports as ASCII Files Reports generated by LomaNet are stored in ASCII text format. This means they can be imported into other software packages, e.g. Microsoft Word for Windows, if required. All LomaNet reports are initially held in the directory C:\Program Files\LomaNet\Reports. Each report is given a unique filename in the following format: where XYYMMDDN.nnn X is always the leading character. YY is the year the report was stored by the PC. MM is the month the report was stored by the PC. DD is the date the report was stored by the PC. N.nnn is the sequential number of the report. LomaNet User Guide Page 24 of 25

25 Report Viewer For example, the first report received on 16th March 2001 would be titled X while the 201st report would be titled X Never delete a report file when in this view deleting does not remove the record from the database. Problem: Reports Table Within the LomaNet directory is an Access database that includes, amongst other information, a Reports table. This table details the following information for all reports on the current system: the type of report; the machine ID; the date and time the report was received; the ASCII filename. Problem: the Report Viewer cannot see any reports The report viewer is running but cannot see any reports: 1. Check the short date format in Regional settings Date Tab is set to yyyy 2. Check that the Database Located message is being displayed in the Reporter Task bar. Problem: Report Viewer has missing reports A gap or cessation in the reports available for viewing has been observed 1. Check the LomaNetCapture LED in the Reporter Task bar is showing Green. If it is Yellow the Capture Programme is not running. 2. Open the CaptureRun.log located on the Capture PC in the LomaNet Folder C:\Program Files\LomaNet Folder. Check the history of when the programme has been opened and closed to see if the loss of reports can be accounted for. LomaNet User Guide Page 25 of 25
