1 Version Release Notes Notice for All Users Upgrading to You will be required to obtain a 7.1 license before upgrading your TerraBlock Server. Upgrading to from 7.0.x or an earlier version without first obtaining a license will leave the system unusable. To obtain a new license send an request to license@facilis.com. Facilis Shared File System offers Multi-user write access over Fibre Channel and Ethernet. This is an additional feature set that requires licensing on a per-server basis. This feature set also requires a minimum of 6GB of RAM. Call Facilis Technology Sales for more information ( ) or Sales@facilis.com.

This document describes compatibility issues with previous releases, hardware and software requirements, and software installation instructions. This document also lists resolved issues, known problems and limitations. 5 Software Requirements Server In Version 7, new systems will ship with Windows 10 Professional Operating System installed. Facilis will continue supporting Windows 7 SP1 64-bit on existing systems. The Serial number of your system must be TB or greater; please contact Support with any questions prior to upgrading support@facilis.com. Certain 8XS models may not be compatible with version 7. Please contact support before upgrading any 8XS server. Note: Windows auto updates should be set to off. You may run updates at your convenience. Clients Supported Client Operating Systems: Apple Mac OSX versions: , , 10.9.X, 10.10, 10.11, 10.12, (Intel Only). Mac OS will require you allow the Facilis driver in the system security settings. Windows 10 Windows 8 Windows Vista 64bit, Windows 7 Pro SP1 64bit, Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2012, Windows Server Linux Red Hat, CentOS, SUSE, or Ubuntu 64 bit distributions with (or higher) Kernel. Facilis Web Console The Facilis Web console support the following web browsers: Internet Explorer 11 (current version) Microsoft Edge (current and last major revision) Firefox (current and last major revision) Chrome (current and last major revision) Opera (current and last major revision) Safari (current and last major revision) If you are using a current version of a supported browser and a site feature still doesn't work as expected: Determine if your internet browser is current Try using a different browser (in its latest version) as a temporary workaround. If you've tried these solutions but continue experiencing issues, contact Facilis Support with the following details: An explanation of the issue The browsers and versions you've tried A Screenshot of the issue Web Console fibre connectivity on Mac requires Mac OS X 10.9.x or greater. Web Console is only supported over Ethernet on Linux systems. Version provides a command line tool for mounting web console owned volumes on fibre channel connected Linux clients. 5

6 Hardware Requirements TerraBlock Server hardware configurations running Windows 10 64bit are supported in Version 7.0 (See RAM Requirements). Windows XP based servers are no longer supported. 3Gb SAS controllers are no longer supported (H308). Facilis Shared File System Requirements Multi-user Write volumes can be accessed via either Windows, Mac OSX or Linux Fibre Channel clients or Windows, Mac OSX or Linux Ethernet clients. Multi-user Write for Mac requires Intel based OS or later. Ethernet access is available through 10-Gbit, 4 x 1Gbit bonded ports or a single 1Gbit connection to the server via the qualified switches (Edgecore, SMC, LG, NetGear, or HP managed switch). Ethernet connectivity requires the Facilis Shared File System. Only Multi-user Write volumes are accessible via Ethernet connected clients. Adding Ethernet connectivity via 4-port bonded connection requires a free slot in the server for a PCIX or PCIE Ethernet card depending on the model of your TerraBlock. Ethernet connectivity via the 10 Gbit option requires a Windows 7 x64 based TerraBlock and a free PCIe slot. On servers that are fully populated with direct connected clients, the network must be re-configured with a fibre switch to maintain fibre connectivity for all clients and to make a slot available for the addition of the Ethernet hardware. Server RAM Requirements All TerraBlock Servers may require a RAM upgrade to work with version 6.0 (or greater). Any 24EX or 24D system that shipped with 4 GB RAM requires a 2 GB RAM upgrade (6GB total). As of Version 7, all Systems require 6GB RAM or greater; new systems ship with 16GB of RAM. Fibre Channel Clients PCI-Express motherboard platforms using Celerity 41ES, 81EN, 161E or 321E must have an available 4x or 8x PCIe slot for the fibre channel controller. This slot must be qualified by the application manufacturer as a valid media controller position. In a Mac PCIE platform with expansion slot utility, the slot configuration must include a slot with at least 4 x speeds for the Fibre Channel card. PCIX motherboard platforms using Celerity 41XS must have an available 3.3volt 64/66 or higher PCI-X slot for the fibre controller. This slot must be qualified by the application manufacturer as a valid media controller position. Required Fibre Channel HBAs for common platforms are listed below. Other manufacturer HBAs are not supported for use with the TerraBlock system. 7 Atto Celerity 4GB cards require System Integrity Protection (SIP) be disabled for use in Mac Operating System versions newer than For instructions to disable SIP contact Facilis Support. For full support on Mac Operating System versions newer than install an Atto 8GB card. ATTO NVRAM Settings Windows and Mac systems connected to the TerraBlock via an Atto Celerity HBA require specific NVRAM settings be set in the Atto configuration tool. To access the NVRAM settings launch the Configuration tool and highlight the connected channel under the HBA. The settings can be found on the NVRAM tab. Required ATTO NVRAM settings: Execution Throttle: 32 Frame Size: 2048 Connection Mode: Point-to-Point (PTP) Data Rate: Auto Interrupt Coalesce: None Direct connecting two different speed cards may require you to set the data rate to the lower speed on both cards. For example, if directly connecting an 81EN to a 161E or 162E card will require the data rate on both cards be set to 8GB. In addition to NVRAM the Max IO size of the card should be set to 3MB or volumes may disconnect. This setting can be found by highlighting the card in the Atto Configuration Tool and navigating to the advanced tab. A reboot is required after committing any change to the card. Server and Client 10 Gbit Ethernet In addition to the 1 Gbit Ethernet team connectivity, 10 Gbit and 40Gbit Ethernet options are also available for connectivity to TerraBlock. The 10 Gbit Ethernet cards can be installed in any TerraBlock running Windows 7 and Windows 10 Operating Systems. Supported cards and client support are as follows. Please flash the devices listed below with the supported firmware version. -Celerity 161E -Celerity 162E -Celerity 164E -ThunderLink ThunderLink 2162 Installation Instructions for New Systems Client Installation Windows: Install the Facilis Web Console and TerraBlock Manager on a Windows client by copying the TerraBlock Windows Client installer to the machine and double clicking to launch. Once launched choose the install now option. After installation you will receive a message saying Installation complete. The installer will install the Facilis Web Console as well as the TerraBlock Manager. These will install in C:\Windows\FacilisTerraBlock as well as create shortcuts in the start menu. In order for the Facilis Web Console and TerraBlock Manager Software components to install properly, the installer must be run by a local system user with Administrator access. Once the Installer has been successfully run by a local system user with Administrator access, the 9

10 Facilis Web Console and TerraBlock Manager software will then be available for use by local system users with Normal access. Windows 7 client systems require User Account Control Settings to be set to Never notify for the Terrablock Manager to install correctly. A reboot of the client system is required after this setting is changed. Real-time Anti-Virus protection may interfere with the Windows Terrablock Manager. To avoid this add the Tools volume(s) into the Anti-Virus exclusion list. With a valid user account, all TerraBlock software can be downloaded from the Facilis website (Facilis Download Center). An account can be created if one does not exist. All new systems also ship with a thumb drive containing the software. Mac OS X: Install the Facilis Web console and TerraBlock Manager on a Mac client by copying the TerraBlock Mac Client installer to the machine and double clicking to launch. Once launched choose the install now option. After installation you will receive a message saying Installation complete. The applications will install into the Applications directory. If necessary, shortcuts or aliases to the TerraBlock Manager application can be created and placed in convenient locations such as the Mac Desktop or Dock and then used to launch the TerraBlock Manager. With a valid user account, all TerraBlock software can be downloaded from the Facilis website (Facilis Download Center). An account can be created if one does not exist. All new systems also ship with a thumb drive containing the software. In order for the Facilis Web Console and TerraBlock Manager Software components to install properly, the installer must be launched run by a local system user with Administrator access. Once the Installer has been successfully run by a local system user with Administrator access, the Facilis Web Console and TerraBlock Manager software will then be available for use by local system users with Normal access. 11 Upgrading an Existing System MULTIPLE SERVER ENVIRONMENT ALL SERVERS MUST BE UPDATED TO VERSION SAVE METADATA PRIOR TO UPGRADING TO VERSION (See Appendix A for instructions). Generating a Version 7.1 License when Upgrading from In Windows Explorer, navigate to C:\Program Files\Facilis\TerraBlock. 2. Copy the TBLicenseData file. 3. TBLicenseData should be sent to license@facilis.com; a Facilis Technical Support Engineer will generate and send you a license file for Version Copy the new license file to the TerraBlock directory. Make sure the License file is not zipped and has no extension. Generating a Version 7.1 License when Upgrading from 6.5 or Older When upgrading from version 6.5.X or older to Version 7.1.3, a new TBLicenseData file must be generated to be used when obtaining the Version 7.1 license. This process can be performed prior to the upgrade to Version Contact support@facilis.com to receive the Version 7 Authorize.exe. 2. In Windows Explorer, navigate to C:\Program Files\Facilis\TerraBlock. 3. Rename the TBLicenseData File ( filename_65, for example). 4. Double-click on the version 7 Authorize.exe sent to you and enter the Terrablock serial number and company name as prompted to create a new TBLicenseData file. 5. The new TBLicenseData should be sent to license@facilis.com; a Facilis Technical Support Engineer will generate and send you a license file for Version 7.1 within 24 hours. Once you are ready to perform the upgrade the license files should be placed in C:\Program Files\Facilis\TerraBlock. The new license file should be placed in C:\Program Files\Facilis\TerraBlock during the upgrade process. The previous license file can be renamed with a suffix indicating the current version ( filename_65, for example). A script package to generate the TBLicenseData for you can also be obtained by contacting support@facilis.com 11

12 Downloading Software The latest documentation, release notes, software and driver updates can be obtained from the Facilis Download Center at Alternatively, go to the support page and select Download Center to login and access the Version download. Once in the download center, sign up or use an existing account to download the latest version. If you experience issues logging in or signing up contact Requirements prior to enabling attached storage: 1. Windows 7 / 10 64bit OS for the 24EX and 24D server models is required for attaching a T8, nearline or third party SAS/Fibre storage to a TerraBlock server. 2. Installation of an ATTO R380 or R680 SAS adapter or open fibre port in the TerraBlock server. 3. A license for the server. The Facilis attached storage is an optional feature that requires licensing. Contact Facilis Technology (sales@facilis.com) or your reseller for information on obtaining or purchasing a license. Requirements prior to adding TX16 expansion chassis: 1. Windows 7 64bit OS for the 24D server model is required for attaching a TX16 to a TerraBlock server. 2. Installation of an ATTO H680 SAS adapter into an available PCI-E slot in the TerraBlock server. 3. Contact Facilis Support to check RAM requirements. Installing the ATTO Drivers and The latest drivers are included in the full download or on the Facilis USB Key for new installations. See the list of Qualified Hardware beginning on page 7 for driver version information. NOTE: Version 4.26 of the ATTO Configuration Tool is provided with this release. The 4.10 or greater Configuration Tool is required for use with 16/32Gbit fibre channel cards. Windows Driver Install To install a driver for a Fibre Channel host adapter: 1. From the Drivers download or Facilis USB Key in the Drivers directory, navigate into the folder for the ATTO model you re using. 2. Launch the setup.exe file and follow instructions. 3. If installing 8Gbit or 16Gbit HBA in a TerraBlock Server, see below. 4. Reboot your computer. TerraBlock Server - NEW 8Gbit or 16Gbit ATTO Card Install Follow the driver instructions above, adding an additional step: 12

13 1. Prior to Reboot, launch the 8G_TARGET.reg or 16G_TARGET.reg file from Drivers\Windows\ Windows ATTO Celerity 8G or 16G\TB Server Installation. Allow the information to be written to the registry. This is for a server having an 8GB or 16GB card installed for the first time. Skip this step if an 8GB or 16GB ATTO card is already installed in the server. Mac OS X Driver Install To install the Fibre Channel driver for Mac OS X: 1. Extract the appropriate file from the Drivers download or from the Drivers directory on the Facilis USB Key. 2. Double click the.dmg file to view its components. 3. Double click on the installer icon and follow the on-screen installation instructions. 4. When prompted, reboot your system to complete the installation process. Linux Driver Install To install the Fibre Channel driver for Linux: 1. Extract the appropriate file from the Drivers download or from the Drivers directory on the Facilis USB Key. 2. Extract the ATTO driver from the.tgz file. 3. Open a terminal and switch to the ROOT user. 4. CD to the location where you extracted the ATTO drivers. 5. Run the ATTO driver installer using the./install command. 6. Follow the on-screen instructions as they appear in the ATTO install process. 7. When prompted, reboot your system to complete the installation process. ATTO Install To install on an ATTO Celerity HBA: 1. Launch the ATTO Configuration tool. (Install the ATTO Configuration Tool from the Utilities folder if necessary). 2. Highlight the first ATTO card seen in the left window; verify driver version is correct after driver install. Note the model number of the ATTO card. 3. Select the Flash tab. 4. If the flash version is lower than recommended, hit Browse and navigate into the folder on USB Key or within the downloaded folder. 5. Select the flash file for the ATTO model you re using. The server and possibly clients use Celerity, 42XS, 42ES, 82EN or 162E. Clients typically use Celerity 41ES, 81EN or 161E The Mac will need to be extracted from its.dmg file. 6. Once the appropriate flash file is selected, hit Update in the ATTO Configuration Tool. Follow the on-screen instructions. Flash all Celerity HBA cards in the system, then reboot. 7. After reboot, open the ATTO Configuration tool again. Select the channel of the card under the displayed card model in the left pane. 8. Be sure to set each channel of the cards NVRAM are set to the specs on page 7 of this release note. If changes need to be made choose commit and reboot. 13

14 Installing TerraBlock Server Software While performing this install/upgrade you should be logged into the system locally as the local Facilis Admin user, and not via remote access software such as Remote Desktop or VNC. This may cause certain components of the install to fail. Upgrading the existing TerraBlock software 1. Shut down all connected clients. 2. Close all windows and applications on the TerraBlock Server. 3. Dump a metadata log for emergency backup purposes (see Appendix A for instructions). 4. If applicable, rename the old license file located in C:\Program Files\Facilis\TerraBlock (example: license_old), and insert the new 7.1 license. 5. Replace the following directories in Program Files\Facilis\TerraBlock with newer copies off the installation USB or download. Folders include: Docs; Drivers; Facilis Migration; ; Windows Utilities. 6. Copy all of the contents of the Remote Install Packages folder in the Client Manager Installers download to C:\Program Files\Facilis\TerraBlock\Packages (This will make the current release available for remote client upgrades. 7. Launch the Facilis TerraBlock Server exe located in the Facilis Server Installer folder downloaded from the website. 8. The installer will ask you to uninstall the old version, choose yes. 9. After the uninstall the server will reboot 10. After the reboot the installer will launch automatically. Choose next through the defaults to install the software. 11. The installer will prompt to reboot, choose yes. 12. After reboot, the TerraBlock Manager and Facilis Admin console will be accessible via shortcuts in the start menu or by navigating to C:\Windows\FacilisTerraBlock During installation you may see a warning that Windows can t verify the publisher of this driver software. Be sure to choose Install this driver software anyway Installing Client Software Facilis Web Console and TerraBlock Manager There are two management tools for the TerraBlock Systems. TerraBlock manager is the traditional application-based management tool, and web console is the new management tool included with version 7.0. If your facility had been using TerraBlock manager to administer and access volumes on server and clients, changing to web console will require that all clients discontinue use of TerraBlock manager. Web console and TerraBlock manager will not carry the same information about user database or mounted volumes if used in conjunction with each other on the same network. The setup instructions below install both the TerraBlock Manager and Web Console. Remote Client Upgrade Facilities running Facilis Web Console on version 7.1 will be able to utilize the remote client upgrade feature. To perform a remote upgrade client will need to be running version 7.1 client and be turned on. You will also need to copy the files contained in Remote Install Packages from the Client Manager Installers download to C:\Program Files\Facilis\TerraBlock\Packages. These files are as follows: 14

In the left hand pane select all of the clients you wish to upgrade remotely and choose Upgrade Clients. On the Upgrade Clients dialogue select the upgrade package version you wish to install from the list on the right and choose upgrade. Systems without the Facilis Client installed or version previous to 7.1 installed will need to manually upgrade their clients. Mac clients running Mac OS X X will need to allow the Facilis driver in the security system preferences to finish the upgrade. 19 Appendix A Saving TerraBlock Metadata Saving metadata is a safeguard should something go wrong during an upgrade. To save Metadata: 1. Create a folder on the Desktop (name it Metadata backup) 2. Copy DataVerifier.exe (from C:\Program Files\Facilis\TerraBlock\Utilities) into that folder and Launch 3. Type the Shift key + d (capital D) 4.
