IBM FlashSystem Web Interface Guide Learn about setting up and using the web management interface on your IBM FlashSystem. Web interface basics You can use the web management interface to manage the system remotely. The interface provides easy access to the functions of the storage system functions. The interface is also useful if you are troubleshooting any system issues. At a glance, this utility shows the status of all components that are found throughout the system. Note: The web management interface requires version 1.5 or later of the Java Runtime Environment. Logging in Learn about the IP address and default login settings for the web interface. To access the web management interface, enter the storage system's IP address ( in a web browser. The web management interface is password protected; therefore, a valid system login and password must be provided. The default values are as follows: username:admin password:password To establish a secure connection when using SSL, make sure that the Secure Connection check box is selected. System tree You use the system tree to quickly access various components in the system. The system tree consists of a root node (a labeled icon) that represents the storage system, and a nested series of nodes that represent components in the system and system management functions. You can click a node to see details and options that are related to the node. Performing actions on nodes in the system tree After you select a node in the system tree, you have several options for completing actions on the node. You can access available actions for a node in the system tree in several ways: v Clicking the management interface toolbar buttons v Right-clicking on either a tree node or its pane v Clicking the Actions menu Each method shows a menu or a list of all available actions for the particular node in the tree. Warning and error events The web interface can help you quickly locate system issues. If a management event occurs, such as a warning or failure, the node icon in the system tree that represents the device changes appearance: Copyright IBM Corp

v If a warning event occurs, a triangular warning symbol is included on the icon and the corresponding text is highlighted. v If an error occurs, an x is present on the icon and the corresponding text is highlighted. Click the flagged item to diagnose the issue. Consult the system log or contact support to help in resolving the problem. For online support, see the IBM Support portal. System overview pane The system overview pane provides a useful summary of the system condition. Click the system icon at the root of the system tree to display the System Overview pane. This pane shows the configuration and state of the system. If the system experienced an error or warning state, a message for each problem would be listed in this pane. Shutting down or restarting the storage system An improper system shutdown can risk data loss. You can complete an orderly shutdown of the system and restart the system by using the web management interface. To shut down the system, from the System Overview pane, click Shutdown. This procedure safely causes the system s flashcards to synchronize their metadata and shut down before you power off the system. You can also restart the system by using the web management interface. From the System Overview pane, click Restart. This procedure safely causes the system s flashcards to synchronize their metadata and shutdown before you restart the system. Note: To power on the system after a manual shutdown, physically press the power button that is located near the power supplies on the rear panel of the system. Recent event log The recent event log is useful if you are diagnosing system issues. The Recent Event Log pane at the bottom of the management interface window displays a list of all system events. To reveal or hide the Recent Event Log at any time, click Recent Event Log in the toolbar. Task monitor The task monitor is another source of useful troubleshooting information. The storage system can record all configuration changes since the last power cycle. This information is often useful in diagnosing configuration problems. You can view the current tasks by clicking the Task Monitor tab at the foot of the web management interface. Logical units node Logical units allow flexible partitioning of storage on systems that use Fibre Channel controllers. The storage system supports various configuration and access control methods. Logical unit configuration is a memory-partitioning tool that configures storage memory into volumes that are accessible through Fibre Channel ports in the system. Logical units can be assigned specific logical unit numbers (LUNs) and access policies. 2 IBM FlashSystem : Web Interface Guide

Creating logical units Use this procedure to create a new logical unit for partitioning storage. Important: For specific operating system and application optimizations for LUNs, see the storage system Integration Guide. To create a logical unit on the storage system, complete the following steps: 1. Select the Logical Units node in the tree and click Create in the toolbar. 2. After you read the description of the logical units, click Next to view the Setup Parameters pane. The Setup Parameters pane includes the following options: v Name can be used to give the logical unit a label. v Number is the logical unit number that is presented to the SCSI host. v Size represents the capacity of the logical unit in megabytes. v Device ID is a string of bytes (up to 256) that is user-defined and uniquely identifies the logical unit. Typically, this option is only used in OpenVMS environments. v Sector Size specifies the sector size of the logical unit. v Offset sets the alignment that is offset of the logical unit. If the offset is greater than zero, the logical unit that is presented to the host server is smaller than the configured logical unit size by the offset amount. v Report corrected media errors and Report uncorrected define how error correction code (ECC) events for this logical unit are sent to the SCSI server. v Enable ACA support defines the Auto Contingent Allegiance (ACA) option. Some host systems, such as AIX host systems, require this setting to run multiple concurrent commands. After this option is changed, all interface ports that have access to the logical unit must be reset. After the new logical unit is created and the web interface adds it to the tree, its icon shows a warning overlay. This warning indicates that the new logical unit has no access policies. The next step in setting up a logical unit is to create its access policy so that it is visible to a server. Creating access policies The web management interface creates access lists for individual Fibre Channel ports. To make logical units accessible to connected servers, you must link the logical units to the Fibre Channel ports. To create an access policy, complete the following steps: 1. To start the Access Policy wizard, click Access in the Logical Unit Overview pane. 2. After you read the overview of the process, click Next to continue. The Modify Access Policies pane is divided into two sections: v The tree titled Available shows all controller ports in the system with the available access policies under each port. v The tree titled Assigned shows the policies currently in use for each port in the system. If there are conflicts between policies that are assigned and policies available, the conflicting available policies are disabled in the Available tree. 3. To add an Access Policy, select the Policy node from the Available tree. When the node is highlighted, the >> button is enabled. Click this button to move the policy from the Available tree to theassigned tree. The label for a newly assigned policy is highlighted green when added to the Assigned tree. 4. To remove an Access Policy, select the Policy node from theassigned tree and click the >> button. The policy is removed from the Assigned tree and added to the Available tree. When an in-use policy is deleted from the Assigned tree, the label for the policy is highlighted in red in the Available tree. Policy changes are not committed until the next step in the wizard. IBM FlashSystem Web Interface Guide 3

5. When policy modifications are complete, click Next to continue to the modifications review page. v If the policy modifications are only policy additions, click the Confirm check box and click Finish to exit the wizard and commit the policy changes. v If you removed any policies, you are required to enter the login password to finish the wizard and commit the modifications. If the system detects a host server that is connected to the controller port for the access policy, the icon for the policy node shows a plus sign. Modifying logical units You can modify the properties of a logical unit, including the size of the currently configured logical units. Attention: Changing the size, offset, or sector size of a logical unit can cause data loss. Most file systems do not allow these parameters to be changed. You must back up your data to external storage before you modify any of these fields. To modify the logical unit s configuration settings, first select the logical unit from the tree and then click Modify. The logical unit modification wizard shows the same pane as the logical unit creation wizard. After you make all the changes, click Next to review and confirm the changes. Removing logical units Lean how to remove a logical unit when reconfiguring storage. To remove a logical unit, select the logical unit in the system tree and click Destroy. You must enter the login password to confirm the deletion. Attention: After a logical unit is removed, the logical unit and all data on it is unrecoverable. Logical unit masking You can use logical unit masking to restrict access to specific host servers through a controller port. Logical unit masking limits access to specific host servers. You can configure logical unit masking by using the web management interface s Access Policy wizard. The wizard shows the worldwide port names (WWPNs) of connected hosts in its Available policy tree. You can also use the wizard to create host ID aliases, which are used to associate a meaningful text name with a host s WWPN. Creating a host ID alias You can create a host ID alias name to simplify management tasks. To create a host ID alias, complete the following steps: 1. Click New Alias, located under the Available policy tree in the Access Policy wizard. 2. Enter the host s WWPN in the Host ID text box, and enter the alias name in the Alias text box. 3. Click Add to finish and save the alias. The aliased host is listed in the Access Policies tree for each controller. v To remove or edit existing aliases, click Edit Alias in the Access Policy wizard. v To change an alias name, select the alias in the table and click Re-alias to enable the Alias table cell for editing. 4. When changes are complete, press the Enter key to leave edit mode and save the changes to the table. Click OK to exit the Edit Alias pane. 4 IBM FlashSystem : Web Interface Guide

Storage node The Storage section of the system tree includes information about the various flashcards in the system. You can also generate a storage report, which contains useful troubleshooting information for each flashcard. Flashcard node Each flashcard node in the system tree shows more detailed information about that particular flashcard, including its health and capacity. Interfaces node You can view details of the controllers in the system by using the Interfaces node. The Interfaces Overview pane is available in the system tree under the Interfaces node. The Interfaces overview pane displays a table of all Fibre Channel and InfiniBand controller ports. The table is periodically updated to show the current controller state, configuration, and statistics. To see more details for a controller, click Interfaces and select the node of the controller or its individual port to view the controller s configuration and status on the overview pane. Changing the configuration of Fibre Channel controller cards Use the controller cards node to view details of the card and to change the settings of a Fibre Channel controller card. Under the Interfaces tree, the first level of nodes, which are shown with green card icons, represents the controllers in the system. Select a controller card node to view the controller s configuration and status on the overview pane. To change the configuration of a Fibre Channel controller, click Configure on the overview pane toolbar. v To set a minimum threshold for errors that are posted in the event log, adjust the Log level setting. This option is useful in operating systems that generate frequent Fibre Channel events that can fill up the event log, such as the AIX and HPUX operating systems. v To reset a Fibre Channel controller card to the power-on state, click Reset. Resetting a controller resets all ports on the card; therefore, use this function only if the entire controller becomes unresponsive. Changing Fibre Channel controller port settings You can change settings for the ports on Fibre Channel controller cards. Each of the Fibre Channel s ports is configured independently. A Fibre Channel s ports are shown in the system tree under its card icon. To configure the speed and topology of a port, complete the following steps: 1. From the system tree, select the port node in the tree. 2. Click Configure in the toolbar in the port overview pane. 3. Use the Link Speed menu to configure the speed initialization for a Fibre Channel controller. Select Auto to indicate that the Fibre Channel controller automatically negotiates its speed, or choose a specific link speed. 4. Use the Topology menu to configure the topology for a Fibre Channel controller. PP indicates point-to-point topology and AL indicates arbitrated loop topology. IBM FlashSystem Web Interface Guide 5

5. Use the Loop ID menu to set the arbitrated loop ID for a Fibre Channel port. This setting is useful in some situations where a defined loop ID is required. Usually a setting of Soft is sufficient, as this setting means the value is assigned automatically. 6. Click Next to proceed to the confirmation step, and then click Finish to finalize the changes. If a port becomes unresponsive, you can reset a Fibre Channel port by clicking Reset Link. Resetting a port resets only the individual port, not the controller. Environmental node The Environmental section of the system tree shows the status of individual system components. Temperature node Select the Temperature node to view the status of several system components. The Temperature pane displays the temperature value of each sensor in the system. Power node The Power node provides power status information. The system contains multiple sensors to measure voltage and current. The Power pane displays the values of each of these sensors in the system. Fans node The Fans node provides the status of the cooling fans in the system. The system contains multiple sensors for fan speeds. The fans pane displays the values of each of these sensors. Battery node You can schedule periodic tests of the system battery by using the Battery node. The system completes a periodic battery test to ensure that the internal batteries are in good condition. This test ensures that the batteries are present and able to hold charge. There is no risk for data loss during this test because the power supplies remain online. The system repeats the test every 30 days. The system reports battery test failures in the event log and in all management utilities, including warning messages on the front panel display. If a failure occurs, contact support for a replacement battery immediately. To schedule battery tests, go to the system tree and click Battery > Schedule Test. Use the Schedule Periodic Battery Test wizard to complete this task. Management node You can use the Management node to change the network settings, update the system date and time, upload firmware patches, and manage system users. Network node To use the system Ethernet port for system monitoring and configuration, you must configure the port by using the Network node in the system tree. 6 IBM FlashSystem : Web Interface Guide

You can view the current network settings by selecting the Local Network node from the system tree. If your storage system includes two management ports, the Secondary Network node provides settings for the alternate IP. Before you access the system through the Ethernet management port, the system must be assigned an IP address, subnet mask, and possibly a gateway. The IP address is assigned in one of three ways: Static IP, DHCP, or No Ethernet. The default factory setting is DHCP. The Ethernet device configurations can be modified independently. To change a device s configuration, select Network from the system tree and click the button with the device s name. For questions on IP assignment values, consult your network administrator. The Domain Name System (DNS) service translates domain names into IP addresses. You can either configure the system to allow a DHCP Ethernet device to automatically configure the DNS settings itself, or you can manually set the configuration. A DNS server takes the search domain and name server IP settings into account when a domain name is translated. The search domain is used when a query is made for a host name that does not end with a dot. The search domain is appended to the host name to create a fully qualified domain before the query is passed to the name server. The name server is the IP of the system that is running the DNS server. Changing the system date and time The system uses the system date and time to update the event log. The event log function aids in troubleshooting. To change the system date or time, select Date/Time from the system tree and click Configure to start the Set Date and Time wizard. v You can click the Enable Network Time Protocol (NTP) check box to synchronize the time with an NTP server. If the network IP assignment is DHCP, select Automatically acquire NTP Server. Otherwise, select Specify Server and enter an NTP server. v You can also set the time, date, and time zone manually with the wizard. The last step of the wizard requires confirmation of any changes that were made. Updating firmware Use this procedure to update the system firmware. To update the system s firmware, complete the following steps: 1. Select Firmware from the system tree and click Update. 2. From the Choose Patch Image dialog box, enter the path to the patch image, or click Browse to locate the image by using the browser window. 3. After the firmware patch is completed, you must restart the system to apply and activate the new firmware. Because most web browsers cache the web management interface, restart the browser to load the updated version of the web management interface. An uploaded firmware patch can be canceled before the system is restarted. To cancel a patch, click Cancel Patch and confirm that you want to cancel the currently uploaded patch. Managing multiple systems You can use the terawatch function to manage multiple systems from a single web management interface. If you have several storage systems, the terawatch function is a convenient way to manage them. v Click Add System in the web interface toolbar to log in to more systems and manage multiple systems at once. IBM FlashSystem Web Interface Guide 7

v Click Discover in the web interface toolbar to discover other systems on the network. To change settings for the Discover option, click Options in the toolbar, and then click Preferences. Select the Discovery tab and view the settings. The web management interface also provides a way to view statistics, connect, or patch multiple systems simultaneously. These actions are available under the Options menu. Saving and restoring a system configuration If you manage multiple systems and would like each one to have an identical configuration, you must save the system configuration. Use the save configuration function to save the details of a configuration, including its logical units and users, and restore them later. You can easily configure one system, save its configuration, and restore this configuration on other systems. v To save a system s configuration, click Save Configuration on the Management node, and specify a file name to save the configuration to. Remember the file name and location as it is needed to restore the configuration. v To restore a configuration, in the system tree, select the IP address at the top level of the tree, and then click Restore Configuration in the Detailed Information pane. Attention: Restoring a configuration deletes the current configuration, including all logical units. None of the data on the logical units is recoverable. Creating and configuring users You can add new users by selecting the Users node. To view all the users that can log in to the system, click Users in the system tree. The User List table displays each user's name, password, and group level. To add a user, complete the following steps: 1. Click Users in the system tree, and then click Add. 2. In the Add User pane, enter a new user name, group, and password. The system has two group levels: Users and admins. v Members of the Users group have read-only access to the system. At this level, users are able to view all areas of the system tree but are unable to change system settings. v Members of the admins group are able to view and change all system options. Configuring Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) settings Use the Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) function to configure settings for your network's LDAP server. LDAP provides central authentication of login credentials in addition to any local users. You must first configure the system s LDAP settings to match the server. To access the settings, click Management > Users in the system tree. The LDAP Server Configuration pane includes the following settings: v Server is your LDAP server. It must be resolvable without using LDAP. You can specify multiple hosts, each separated by a space. v Base DN is the distinguished name of the search base. v Port is the port that is used to connect to the LDAP server. The default setting is port 389 for TLS or no encryption, and port 636 for SSL encryption. If the server uses a different port, specify it in this field. 8 IBM FlashSystem : Web Interface Guide

v Bind DN is the distinguished name that is used for binding to the LDAP server. If left defaulted, the system tries to bind anonymously. v Bind Password is the password that the LDAP server uses to authenticate the bind DN when the system tries to bind. v Timeout is the timeout in seconds to wait for an LDAP search operation. v Bind Timeout is the timeout in seconds to wait for an LDAP bind operation v Encryption selects which type of encryption is used for communication with the LDAP server. Cluster node The Cluster node provides information about the active or passive status of the local and remote IP addresses. To access the cluster information, click Cluster in the system tree. The local IP is the current IP address that you are logged in to. The remote IP is the alternate IP address for the same system. Note: The Remote Node Logical Units table is only populated if you click Refresh Config at the top. If an issue occurs that results in both ports being set to passive, click Configure in the Cluster pane toolbar, which opens a wizard where you can choose which configuration to force into an active state. Attention: Forcing a management controller to the active state can cause data loss. Contact support before you use this option. Services node Use the Services node to view, enable, or disable system services. To view the services, click the Services node in the system tree and click Configure. This action opens a configuration wizard, where you can select which services are enabled. Changing SNMP settings You can remotely monitor the system by using Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP). The SNMP agent is enabled by factory default and configured to monitor and send traps for events such as a power failure. To change the SNMP settings, select the SNMP node in the tree and click Configure to run the SNMP Configuration wizard. The SNMP Configuration wizard includes the following functions: v The wizard's Detailed Information pane displays the current SNMP settings. v The Configure button in the toolbar is used to change settings. v The trap sink list is displayed in the overview pane. Trap sinks are host systems that are sent notification traps from the SNMP agent. v The Traps button displays a pane that lists the available traps and their resend period. You can enable or disable individual traps by using this pane. You can also configure the trap notifications from the SNMP agent by using this pane. v The SNMP MIB button in the toolbar downloads the SNMP agent Management Information Base (MIB) file. This file translates the numeric trap object identifiers (OIDs) into text identifiers that you can use to interpret the traps. IBM FlashSystem Web Interface Guide 9

v The Test Trap button is used to send out a trap notification with a test message to all the hosts in the trap sink list. Test trap notifications are useful in verifying that the SNMP agent is working properly and that the listening hosts are correctly configured to receive traps. Statistics node You can use the information in the statistics tools to monitor and analyze system performance. The Statistics node provides a graph utility to monitor important statistics that define the level of system performance. These statistics include I/O operations per second and bandwidth. The graph legend displays the instantaneous values of each plotted statistic and its running average. Statistics lists can be saved and reloaded by using the Save and Load buttons in the System Statistics pane toolbar. Adding statistics You can select the particular system statistics to plot by using the Adding statistics pane. To add statistics to the statistics graph, complete the following steps: 1. Select Statistics from the system tree and click Add in the System Statistics pane toolbar. 2. In the Add Statistics pane, choose the component of the system from the list and then select which type of information to plot. 3. Click Add. Clicking Configure on the Statistics pane toolbar displays the Statistics Configuration pane. Elements of the graph such as the color and title or the columns of the legend can be configured through this pane. Additional graph utility functions You can configure how the system statistics are recorded by using the Statistics pane toolbar. The Statistics pane toolbar includes the following functions: v The Record button periodically saves samples of the currently graphed statistics to a user-specified comma-separated value (CSV) file. Samples can be recorded at either 10-second, 1-minute, or 10-minute intervals. While recording, statistics cannot be added or removed from the graph. The Record button switches to the Cease button when recording is started. The Cease button turns off the recording operation. v The Pause button pauses the graphing utility s periodic updates. Select the Start button to resume updating. Pausing the graphing utility does not pause the recording of statistics to the CSV file. v The Hide/Control button toggles the statistics graph display. When the graph is hidden, only the statistics table is displayed. v The Clear button clears the past values that are shown on the statistics graph and table. (Statistics recording is not affected.) 10 IBM FlashSystem : Web Interface Guide

v The Save button saves the current list of graphed statistics. v Use the Load button to quickly restore a previous configuration. v The Snapshot button takes a snapshot of the current graph and table and saves it as a JPEG image. Logs node The system logs are useful if you must diagnose system issues. The event logs and error logs are available by clicking Logs in the system tree. Event log If a system failure occurs, review the event log to determine the sequence of events. The pane for the Logs node displays the event log. This information is helpful in determining why a component failed and provides a time line of events to follow. To clear the event log, click Clear Event Log in the toolbar. After the log is cleared, prior log messages cannot be restored. Error log You can view a list of hardware error events in the error log. Hardware error events, such as cyclic redundancy check (CRC) errors, are tracked in an error log, which is part of the system report. If a hardware error occurs, the error log, the event log, the front panel display, and the system overview pane all report an error message. To clear this log and clear the error messages from the web management interface and front panel display, click Clear Error Log in the event log toolbar. Statistic node You can view different types of system statistics logs by selecting the Statistics node. The system is able to save logs of system statistics, such as system bandwidth and the maximum temperature of all system components. You can also add user-specified statistics to the logged list. To view the current list of logs, click the History node under Statistics in the system tree. Viewing statistics logs You can view statistics logs in graphical form. To view statistics histories, select the statistics in the Currently Logged Stats pane by pressing Ctrl and clicking the statistics you want, and then click Save/View in the toolbar. This action opens a pane that displays a graph of the daily history for the statistics that shows the time in the x-axis and the statistic s value in the y-axis. v Select between the Day, Month, oryear buttons to change the time period that is shown in the graph. v The darker-colored line graph that is drawn for a statistic is an average line of periodic samples. The variance of these samples is represented by a lighter-shaded polygon of the same color. Use the Variance check box to turn on or off the variance graphic. v Use the Save button to save the graph image as a JPEG or a (comma-separated values) CSV file. Configuring logged statistics You can specify statistics which are logged by the system. IBM FlashSystem Web Interface Guide 11
