1 INF219x Advanced Virtualization Practical Exercises Overview This course comes with a virtual lab environment where you can practice what you learn. Launch the lab environment from the Welcome > Getting Started > Practice Lab Environment page. You will only have four hours in the practical environment. The time is cumulative, so you can work a little bit at a time until it adds up the total time allowed. You may not have enough time to complete all the practical exercises. So, choose wisely. You may want to consider all the hand-on exercises and decide which ones you want to make sure you work on first. In most cases, the userid is Adatum\Administrator and the password is Pa55w.rd, but read the instructions carefully. If you are having difficulties with the lab environment check out the Student Lab Guide. This document is available from the Course Handouts page and includes basic troubleshooting and the support desk link. Recommendation: Bookmark the edx Practice Lab Environment page as you will return to it frequently to perform your hands-on labs!

2 Notice in the lab environment you can copy information to the virtual machines by using the Actions > Paste Content window. Before you paste the content, be sure your cursor is where you want the copied data. 1 Hyper-V Replica Import a VM In this exercise, you will import a VM that you in a later exercise will enable replication for. In the next exercises, you will configure additional settings so you should keep your virtual lab environment open. Note: Due to restrictions in the lab environment, Hyper-V is installed on the Hyper- V hosts. For instructions how to install and configure Hyper-V, look at the INF215x Virtualization course. Import a VM 1. Sign in to LON-NVHOST3 by using the account Adatum\Administrator with the password Pa55w.rd.

3 2. Open Hyper-V Manager. 3. In Hyper-V Manager, in the Actions pane, click Import Virtual Machine. 4. In the Import Virtual Machine Wizard, configure the following settings: Folder: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Learning\20743\Drives\20743B- NANO-SVR1 Virtual Machine: 20743B-NANO-SVR1 Import Type: Copy the virtual machine (create a new unique ID) Destination: Use default values Storage Folders: Use default value Startup RAM: 512 MB Enable Hyper-V Replica In this exercise, you will enable Hyper-V Replica on LON-NVHOST3 and LON- NVHOST4 using the HTTP protocol, and allow incoming replication traffic in the firewall. Verify the Hyper-V Role installation and examine settings 1. Sign in to LON-NVHOST4 by using the account Adatum\Administrator with the password Pa55w.rd. 2. In the taskbar click Hyper-V Manager. 3. In Hyper-V Manager, in the Actions pane, click Hyper-V Settings. 4. In the Hyper-V settings of LON-NVHOST4, click Replication Configuration. 5. Configure the Replication Configuration settings as follows: Enable this computer as a Replica server: Checked. Authentication and ports section, Use Kerberos (HTTP). Allow replication from the specified servers: Checked

4 6. Click Add. 7. In the Add Authorization Entry window: specify the following settings: Specify the primary server: LON-NVHOST3.adatum.com Specify the default location to store replica files: <use default> Specify the trust group: Adatum_com 8. Click OK. 9. In the Hyper-V Settings for LON-NVHOST4 window, click OK. 10. Read the notice in the Settings window, and click OK. 11. Right-click Start, and then click Windows PowerShell. 12. In the Windows PowerShell prompt, run the following command: fw.msc. 13. In the Windows Firewall with Advanced Settings window, click Inbound Rules. 14. In the Rules list, enable the Hyper-V Replica HTTP Listener (TCP-In) rule. 15. Close the Windows Firewall with the Advanced Security console. 16. Perform the steps in this exercise on LON-NVHOST3 too, but specify LON- NVHOST4.adatum.com as the primary server in step 7. Configure replication for a VM In this exercise, you will configure replication for a VM. Enable replication for 20743B-NANO-SVR1 1. On LON-NVHOST3, in Hyper-V Manager, right-click 20743B-NANO-SVR1, and then click Enable Replication. 2. In the Enable Replication for 20743B-NANO-SVR1 wizard, configure the following settings: Replica Server: LON-NVHOST4 Use Kerberos authentication (HTTP) Virtual hard disks: 20743B-NANO-SVR1.vhd

5 Configure Replication Frequency page: 30 seconds Maintain only the latest recovery point Send initial copy over the network Start replication immediately 3. Monitor the progress of initial replication in the Status column in the Hyper-V Manager console. When the initial replication is complete (progress reaches 100 percent), switch to LON-NVHOST4. 4. Ensure that 20743B-NANO-SVR1 displays in the Hyper-V Manager console. Test failover for a VM In this exercise, you will verify replication for a VM and test failover. Note: Because of nested virtualization limitations within the lab environment, you will not be able to start the replica on LON-NVHOST4. Test failover for 20743B-NANO-SVR1 1. On LON-NVHOST4, in Hyper-V Manager, right-click 20743B-NANO-SVR1, click Replication, and then click View Replication Health. 2. Review the contents of the window that appears, and then click Close. 3. Right-click 20743B-NANO-SVR1, click Replication, and then click Test Failover. 4. In the Test Failover windows, click Test Failover. 5. Verify that a VM with the name 20743B-NANO-SVR1 Test is visible in Hyper- V Manager. 6. To prepare for the next exercise, right-click 20743B-NANO-SVR1, click Replication, and then click Stop Test Failover. 7. In the Stop Test Failover window, click Stop Test Failover.

6 8. Right-click 20743B-NANO-SVR1, click Replication, and then click Remove Replication. 9. In the Remove Replication window, click Remove Replication. 10. Right-click 20743B-NANO-SVR1, click Delete, and then click Remove Replication. 11. In the Delete window, click Delete. 2 Failover Clustering with Hyper-V Configure shared storage on Hyper-V hosts In this exercise, you will connect the Hyper-V hosts to an iscsi target to create shared storage. You will also initialize and format the disks using both a console and Windows PowerShell. Connect to iscsi target 1. On LON-NVHOST4, click Start, click Server Manager, click Tools, and then click iscsi Initiator. 2. In the Microsoft iscsi window, click Yes. 3. In the Target box, type , and then click Quick Connect. 4. In the Quick Connect window, click Done. 5. Click OK. 6. On LON-NVHOST3, click Start, click Windows PowerShell. 7. At the Windows PowerShell prompt, run the following four commands: Set-Service -Name msiscsi -StartupType Automatic Start-Service msiscsi New-IscsiTargetPortal TargetPortalAddress

7 Get-iSCSITarget Connect-IscsiTarget 8. In the Microsoft iscsi window, click Yes. 9. In the Target box, type , and then click Quick Connect. 10. In the Quick Connect window, click Done. 11. Click OK. Initialize and format hard disks 1. On LON-NVHOST4, right-click Start, and then click Disk Management. 2. Click Actions, and then click Rescan Disks. 3. In Disk Management, for Disk 1, Disk 2 and Disk 3, perform the following three actions using default values: Bring Online Initialize Create a new simple volume 4. Close Disk Management. 5. On LON-NVHOST3, at the Windows PowerShell prompt, run the following three commands: Set-Disk -Number 1 -IsOffline $false Set-Disk -Number 2 -IsOffline $false Set-Disk -Number 3 -IsOffline $false 6. At the Windows PowerShell prompt, run the following command to verify all disks has an OperationalStatus of Online: Get-Disk

8 Install and configure Failover Clustering on Hyper-V hosts In this exercise, you install the Failover Clustering feature on the two Hyper-V hosts using both Server Manager and Windows PowerShell. You will also create the failover cluster and configure quorum settings. Install Failover Clustering feature 1. On LON-NVHOST3, at the Windows PowerShell prompt, run the following command: Install-WindowsFeature -Name Failover-Clustering IncludeManagementTools 2. On LON-NVHOST4, in Server Manager, click Add roles and features. 3. In the Add roles and features wizard, install the Failover Clustering feature on LON-NVHOST4. Create Failover Cluster 1. On LON-NVHOST3, click Start, click Server Manager, click Tools, and then click Failover Cluster Manager. 2. In Failover Cluster Manager, in Actions, click Create Cluster. 3. In the Create Cluster Wizard, configure the following settings: Servers: add LON-NVHOST3 and LON-NVHOST4 Select No. I don t require support from Microsoft for this cluster Cluster Name: VCluster Address: Deselect Add all eligible storage to the cluster Configure Quorum Settings

9 1. On LON-NVHOST3, in Failover Cluster Manager, expand VMCluster.Adatum.com, expand Storage, right-click Disks, and then click Add Disk. 2. In the Add Disks to Cluster window, verify that all three disks are selected, and then click OK. 3. Verify that all disks appear as Available Storage in Failover Cluster Manager. 4. Right-click VMCluster.adatum.com, click More Actions, click Configure Cluster Quorum Settings. 5. In the Configure Cluster Quorum Settings, configure the cluster to Use default quorum configuration. 6. Verify that the cluster uses Cluster Disk 1 as Disk Witness. Create Cluster Shared Volume In this exercise, you will create a CSV from one of the cluster disks. Create a Cluster Shared Volume 7. On LON-NVHOST3, in the Failover Cluster Manager console, right-click Cluster Disk 2, and then click Add to Cluster Shared Volumes. 8. Open File Explorer, and verify that in the root of the C drive, ClusterStorage exists. And verify that in C:\ClusterStorage, Volume1 exists.

10 Move VM storage to CSV In this exercise, you will move the virtual hard disk to the CSV and configure the VM to use the shared storage. Move virtual machine storage to CSV 1. On LON-NVHOST3, in Failover Cluster Manager, ensure that LON-NVHOST3 is the owner of Cluster Disk 2. The owner value is in the Owner node column. If that is not the case, then move the disk to LON-NVHOST3 before proceeding. Note: To move the disk: Right-click the disk, and then click Move. Click Select Node, click LON-NVHOST3, and then click OK. 2. In File Explorer, navigate to C:\Program Files\Microsoft Learning\20743\Drives\20743B-NANO-SVR1\Virtual Hard Disks. 3. Move the 20743B-NANO-SVR1.vhd virtual hard disk file to the C:\ClusterStorage\Volume1 location. 4. In Hyper-V Manager, right-click 20743B-NANO-SVR1 and then click Settings. 5. In the Hardware section, click Hard Drive NANO-SVR1.vhd, and in the details pane, click Browse, navigate to and select the C:\ClusterStorage\Volume1\20743B-NANO-SVR1.vhd and then click Open. 6. Click OK.

11 Create new highly available VMs In this exercise, you will create two new highly available VMs using both Failover Cluster Manager and Windows PowerShell. Create new highly available VMs 1. On LON-NVHOST3, in Failover Cluster Manager, right-click Roles, click Virtual Machines, and then click New Virtual Machine. 2. In the New Virtual Machine window, click LON-NVHOST3, and then click OK. 3. In the New Virtual Machine Wizard, configure the following settings: Name: HA-VM Select Store the virtual machine in a different location Location: C:\ClusterStorage\Volume1 Select Generation 1 Startup memory: 256 Connection: Not Connected Select Create a new virtual hard disk Select Install an operating system later 4. Right-click TestClusterVM, and then click Settings. 5. At the Windows PowerShell prompt, run the following commands to create a highly available VM: $VM = New-VM -Name PS-HA-VM -Path C:\ClusterStorage\Volume1 - MemoryStartupBytes 512MB -ComputerName LON-NVHOST3 New-VHD -Path C:\ClusterStorage\Volume1\PS-HA-VM.vhdx - SizeBytes 20GB -Dynamic Add-VMHardDiskDrive -VM $VM -ControllerType IDE - ControllerNumber 0 -ControllerLocation 0 -Path C:\ClusterStorage\Volume1\PS-HA-VM.vhdx

12 Add-ClusterVirtualMachineRole -VirtualMachine PS-HA-VM -Name "HA-VM Created in Windows PowerShell" 6. In Failover Cluster Manager, verify that in Roles, the VM HA-VM Created in Windows PowerShell is visible. Perform Quick Migration for a VM In this exercise, you will migrate HA-VM to a second cluster node using Quick Migration. Migrate virtual machine using Quick Migration 1. On LON-NVHOST3, in Failover Cluster Manager, right-click HA-VM, click Move, click Quick Migration, and then click Select Node. 2. In the Move Virtual Machine window, click LON-NVHOST4, and then click OK. Wait until the machine is migrated. The Owner Node column will change the value when migration completes.
