The following basic system requirements are required: For Windows: One of the following Microsoft operating systems: o Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2 (32- or 64-bit) o Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2 (32-bit) o Windows Server 2008R2 Service Pack 1 (64-bit) Intel Xeon Processor (3+ GHz recommended) One of the following web servers: o IIS 6.0 (on Windows Server 2003) o IIS 7.0 with ISAPI Extensions (on Windows Server 2008) o IIS 7.5 with ISAPI Extensions (on Windows Server 2008R2) o Apache Web Server 2.0.x or 2.2.x (32-bit) For Linux: Red Hat Enterprise Server 5 or 6 Intel Xeon Processor (3+ GHz recommended) Apache Web Server 2.0.x or 2.2.x (32- or 64-bit)

II Installing Express Server You must uninstall any previous version of LizardTech Express Server or LizardTech Content Server before installing Express Server 8. To install Express Server, you must have root (Unix) or admin (Windows) permissions. (For more information, see "Processes and Permissions" in the product documentation.) Express Server must be installed into a directory whose path contains no non-ascii characters. Do not install Express Server over a network. Install it directly from the Express Server DVD. Windows Installation Instructions: To install Express Server 8 on Windows systems: 1. Verify that you have satisfied the full system requirements (See "System Requirements" in the product documentation.) 2. Run the program setup.exe on the Express Server installation DVD. 3. Follow the instructions presented by the installation program. Note: Some systems will require rebooting. 4. After rebooting, choose LizardTech > Express Server 8 > Express Server Manager from the Start menu. 5. Log in with the case-sensitive username admin and the casesensitive password ChangeMe. To see the sample content on your Express Server, select Status from the top navigation bar and click the browse link in the first line on the Status page. For installation troubleshooting information, see the insert in the Express Server package. Special note for installing the ArcIMS Integration Toolkit: If you are integrating Express Server with ArcIMS, you must install the Express Server Plugin for ArcIMS. Refer to the Express Server installation instructions above to install and configure Express Server prior to installing the ArcIMS Integration Toolkit. Then:

3 1. Review the readme.txt in the "ArcIMS_Plugin" folder for more information on system requirements, installation, configuration, system operation, and known issues. 2. Launch the installer application from the "ArcIMS_Plugin" folder and follow the instructions. Unix Installation Instructions: To install Express Server 8 on Unix systems: 1. Verify that you have satisfied all the system requirements (See "System Requirements" in the product documentation.) 2. Run the program install.sh on the Express Server installation DVD. Follow the instructions presented by the installation program. For installation of optional components see the product documentation, "Express Server 8 User Manual.pdf", on your installation DVD. Uninstalling Express Server: Prior to uninstalling Express Server, you must stop your Apache or IIS Web Server in addition to the Web Publishing Service in order to ensure a complete uninstall. To uninstall Express Server 8 on Windows systems: 1. Stop your IIS or Apache web server. 2. Follow the path Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs. Locate the program LizardTech Express Server 8 on the list and select it. 3. Click Change/Remove. Follow the uninstaller wizard's instructions. To uninstall the Express Server 8 completely from Unix systems use the uninstall.sh script located by default at /opt/lizardtech/installrecords/... III Licensing Express Server Express Server software comes licensed for a 30-day trial period during which all functionality is available. You may purchase a license to convert the software to the permanent version. If the trial expires and no permanent license is installed, Express Server will not work, although you may still access the Express Server Manager to purchase or activate a license.

4 To license your Express Server software: 1. Open the Express Server Manager by clicking Start > LizardTech > Express Server 8 > Express Server Manager. 2. Click Status on the top navigation bar. 3. Click Details to the right of the Licensing Status information. The Licensing Details dialog opens showing your "Locking Code" and a field for entering a "License Code". 4. Do one of the following, A or B: A. If you have not yet purchased a license: i. Click Purchase or activate an Express Server license. A new browser window opens. ii. Click I want to purchase Express Server. iii. Select your region (and state or province if in the U.S. or Canada). Use the information provided to contact the LizardTech representative in your area. B. If you have already purchased a license and wish to activate it: i. Copy your Locking Code. ii. Click Purchase or activate an Express Server license. A new browser window opens. iii. Click I want to activate my purchased copy of Express Server. iv. Fill out the brief form and paste your Locking Code into the Locking Code field, then click Submit. 5. When your License Code arrives, paste it into the License Code field on the Licensing Details dialog, then click Submit. If you have been sent a license file, click Upload license file on the Licensing Details dialog and browse to desired file, then click Open. Your Express Server software is now licensed and it should be reported as licensed on the Status page. IV User Documentation Online and printed help for this product are installed when you install the product. The file "Express Server 8 User Manual.pdf" is a printable version of the online help. If you would like to view either the online or printed help prior to installation or on a system on which you do not plan to install Express Server, there is a copy of both on the product DVD. In the

5 WebHelp directory, double-click on the index.html file to launch the online help. Online and printed help are installed into the Express Server 8\ImageServer\docs\manual directory. Double-click the index.html file to launch the online help. You must have a Web browser installed to view the online help. V Release Notes Version (May 2013) 1. Fixed bug in which the width or height of a WMS GetMap result may be off by one pixel when the aspect ratio of the BBOX differed from that of the requested image dimensions (ref. #15025). 2. Fixed crash that could occur when magnifying certain very large spatially indexed catalogs far beyond their native resolution (ref. #15087). Version (December 2012) 1. Added support for Apache Discontinued support for Apache 1.3 support VI Known Issues Style Sheets: Hostnames should not include underscores or spaces. If your server's hostname contains an underscore or a space, you will encounter errors with some of the sample style sheets distributed with Express Server. To prevent this problem, rename your host to a name that does not contain underscores or spaces. Express Server:

7 1. Express Server cannot display password-protected MrSID images. 2. If corrupt image files are accessed through Express Server, small memory leaks will occur. Repeated access to corrupt images may result in system instability. If you experience a minor memory leak and/or system instability, examine your Express Server for any corrupt MrSID images and remove them. 3. Files names should not include + or % characters. Locale Issues: 1. Some of the Style Sheets use Javascript to update page content. On browsers older than IE 5.5 and Netscape 7.1/Mozilla 1.5, Javascript could not correctly handle URLs containing non-ascii data, and so those links may not work. 2. Java example applet does not work with non-ascii file names. 3. Command-line test applications (e.g. testhttp) will not accept non-ascii input on the command line, and as such are not considered internationalized. MUTA (image metadata editor) can accept UTF-8 keys and values from a UTF-8 file (such as one created in Notepad and saved out in UTF-8) but will not accept non-ascii international keyboard input on the command line.
