3 Description Electronic Thermostat Modules (ETMs) are intelligent control modules distributed throughout a build ing to provide local di rect digital control of uni tary, packaged, staged HVAC systems. The ETM-2020 and ETM-2024 are designed with confirmation inputs for all output stages (except damper) and a second temperature input. When applying two sensor inputs, one of several control- to strategies may be selected. The ETM-2024 has the same appearance and fea tures of the ETM-2020, but a dry con tact relay has been added to provide a contact closure in the scheduled off mode. This relay allows ventilation dampers to bypass minimum position switches and close completely during unoccupied times. The fol low ing LOGIC ONE indoor temperature sensors can be used with the ETM-2020 and ETM-2024 models: Futura Temperature Sensor (FTS-1) (20 to 120 F) Wall-Mount Temperature Sensor (WTS-10) (20 to 120 F) Duct Temperature Sensor (DTS-50) (20 to 120 F) Remote Temperature Sensor (RTS-50) (20 to 120 F) Duct Temperature Sensor (DTS-30) (20 to 170 F) Remote Temperature Sensor (RTS-30) (20 to 170 F) The zone temperature sensor requires a range of F. Any of the listed sensors can be used as the auxiliary temperature sensor. 4 Pre cau tions Take the following precautions during installation: Observe national and local electrical codes. Observe voltage and current lim its marked on the module. Do not exceed 24 VAC at one ampere. The ETM-2020 and 2024 outputs are controlled by low volt age triacs (AC switches). Mount ing the ETM or ETM Enclosure The following items are needed to mount the enclosure: The ETM-2020 or 2024 enclosure The hardware kit (four screws, four hollow-wall anchors, one hex key, and two module address la bels) included with the enclosure. The enclosure can be mounted remotely from the space being controlled. The Novar Controls supplied weatherproof enclosure should be used if the module is to be located outdoors. Use the following procedure to mount the enclosure. Step Procedure 1 Turn off all power to the HVAC equipment and to the ETM enclosure. 2 Position the enclosure against the mounting surface and mark the surface to show where holes should be drilled for the mounting screws. 3 Drill the holes and, if necessary, install hollow-wall anchors. 4 Turn the screws into the holes or fasteners until approximately ¼ inch remains between the wall and the head of the screws. 5 Position the enclosure over the screws and slide it down so the screws slide into the slots. 6 Tighten the screws to secure the enclosure. Do not install the ETM electronics module until after all terminal strip connections are made and the wiring has been checked and verified. 2 Doc. # /21/01

5 Wiring the ETM-2020/ETM-2024 Sup ply ing the ETM and 2024 with Power Con trol Out puts Refer to Figure 1, as necessary, when wiring the ETM-2020/ETM Connect the 24-VAC power supply to Terminals 23 and 24 on the ETM s terminal strip (see Figure 1). Connect the control wires from the HVAC unit to the terminal strip s heating, cooling, fan and damper outputs (Terminals 1 6). Connect the HVAC unit s low voltage switched leg, usually designated as R, to Terminal 7. Tem pera ture Sensors Temperature sensors should be selected on the basis of the installation requirements. Each sensor s installation instructions provide mounting and wiring details. Make sure that the LOGIC ONE sensors are mounted in the proper input lo ca tion. At the ETM enclosure, observe sensor polarity. Be sure to trim the shield back cleanly to avoid short cir cuits. Mod ule Com mu ni ca tions Net work Use a suitable shielded cable (Belden 8761, Novar Controls WIR-1010, or equivalent) to make the communication connection between the Module Net work connections (Terminals 20 through 22) at the ETM and the A or B communication terminals of the EP/2 or EC. 6 Re mote Over ride Switch The ETM-2020 and 2024 timed override switch is mounted remotely. Switches are not supplied with the ETM. A momentary contact switch can be mounted anywhere and connected to Terminals 15 and 16. Status Con fir ma tion Inputs Confirming status inputs (dry contact only) with a shared common are available for each stage of heating, cooling, fan, and filter. Connect the wires from the HVAC unit s appropriate confirmation points to Terminals 8 through 13. The bases are shipped with jumpers on all terminals except the filter. Remove jumpers as necessary before connecting confirmation wires. All unused status confirmation points except filter must be jumpered to the common. Closed contacts on the fan, Heat 1, Heat 2, Cool 1, or Cool 2 indicate confirmed operation. Closed contact on the filter indicates a dirty filter (alarm condition). Night Mode Damper Con trol This connection is for the ETM only. Connect the Night Mode Terminals (see Figure 2) to the circuitry of the HVAC unit so that it causes the damper to close during unoccupied times. Figure 2. ETM-2024 terminal strip 4 Doc. # /21/01

7 Test ing the Wir ing Before installing the ETM-2020 or 2024 electronics module, use the No var Controls Module Interface Analyzer (MOD-EIA) and Adapter Cable (EIAC) to test the enclosure for cor rect wiring. The ana lyzer tests for module power and allows manual cycling of the ETM outputs. For details, refer to the ETM Interface Ana lyzer instructions. The ETM Interface Analyzer and adapter cable are available separately. Set ting the Module s Address Locate the address switch on the rear of the module as shown in Fig ure 3. Figure 3. Rear view of the ETM electronics Each module requires a unique address for the executive module to identify it. Addresses are assigned in the software during system formatting. Use the module configuration feature to find the address of the ETM being installed. Set the switches on the back of the electronics with the cor rect address from 00 to 63 (see Figure 4). Address 00 should not be used by an ETM operating on an Executive Controller (EC) or Savvy. The IOM section of the EC or Savvy uses address 00. Record the set tings on the label (provided with the ETM hardware kit) and apply it to the back of the electronics as shown in Figure 3. Doc. # /21/01 5

ETM-2020/ETM-2024 address switches Installing the ETM and 2024 Elec tron ics The following items are needed to install the ETM-2020 or ETM-2024 electronics assembly: The ETM-2020 or 2024 electronics assembly The hardware kit (included with the electronics; contains 4 screws and an address label) Use the following procedure to mount the electronics assembly. Step Procedure 1 Make sure the connector on the rear of the ETM electronics fits properly into the corresponding connector on the ETM circuit board. 2 Align the mod ule over the mount ing posts and press the electronics into the enclosure s circuit board. 3 Secure the module to the posts with the screws provided in the hardware kit. 6 Doc. # /21/01

9 Checking In stal la tion Turn on power to the ETM. Make sure that power to the HVAC system and its control circuitry is on. If the executive module is operating properly, the ETM begins to control the HVAC unit in about 3 minutes (after performing a self-diagnostic check and establishing communications with the executive module). Observe the flash ing pattern of the LED to verify proper communications between the ETM and the executive module. A 1-amp circuit board fuse protects the ETM circuitry and can be pulled during maintenance to disconnect power from the ETM. Output Status Indicators Six out put status indicators (inside the ETM-2020 and ETM-2024 but visi ble through the front grill) indicate the status of each out put. The indicator is lit when the corresponding output is on. Override Switch Input If a remote override switch has been installed, it can be tested for proper function by press ing it when the schedule status indicator is off. The schedule status indicator exhibits a steady flash that stops when the override period ends. On a call for heating or cooling, the ETM s output indicators should show a change in status. Alarm messages on the executive module If any faults or malfunctions still exist, they will be picked up by the executive module and announced by alarm messages. Monitor the executive module display dur ing the test procedures. Its key pad can be used to alter the ETM s setpoints to monitor the status display for proper equipment response. Doc. # /21/01 7
