Download the correct drivers for the USB to Serial converter that is built into the device. Please navigate to the link below to download an executable to install the correct drivers for your computer that is available under comments for Windows Operating Systems Download the firmware for the link below. Alternately, you can download the files from the APC website: At this point you have already unzipped the files to a temporary directory

2 4. Run the tftpd32.exe. Tftpd32.exe sets up a temporary tftp server on your PC. Make sure there are no firewalls blocking tftp ports. It will also show you what your computer s IP is. This will be necessary for steps below. 5. Connect a USB cable from your PC to the "Console Port" of the appliance. For a 355 or 455 it is located on the bottom of the device. On a 450 and 550 it is located in the front right on the device. 6. Please open a terminal emulator like Windows Hyperterminal or Putty. Use the following serial port settings Bits per second = 38,400 Data bits = 8 Parity = N Stop bits = 1 Flow control = None

3 **NOTE: The COM port that you choose will have to map to the COM port installed by the drivers you downloaded and ran in Step 1. To find out what COM port was selected, navigate to your device manager and look for Ports (COM & LPT)**

5 7. UNPLUG THE DEVICE FROM POWER, COUNT TO 5, AND THEN PLUG IT BACK IN. Please stop the booting sequence where the screen reads "autoboot countdown, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6..."(hit <enter> and do so before the countdown expires). If you do not see the booting sequence please go back to step one. 8. At this point you should see a Netbotz> prompt. Please enter the following to direct the appliance from where to retrieve the new code: setenv serverip aaa.bbb.ccc.ddd <enter> (where aaa.bbb.ccc.ddd is the IP of the PC that has the TFTP server installed) saveenv <enter> printenv <enter> reset <enter>

6 9. Stop the boot at the point where it s doing the autoboot countdown, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6... (it will tell you to hit <enter> and do so before the countdown expires). **NOTE: You will have to make these additional network settings if the network the appliance is plugged into doesn't support DHCP, or if because of a network issue, the appliance cannot obtain a DHCP address. If you do have DHCP, the appliance should obtain an IP address and you will not have to perform this step. ** setenv ipaddr aaa.bbb.ccc.ddd <enter> (where aaa.bbb.ccc.ddd is the IP of the address you want to assign the bot) setenv gatewayip aaa.bbb.ccc.ddd <enter> (where aaa.bbb.ccc.ddd is the Gateway) setenv netmask aaa.bbb.ccc.ddd <enter> (where aaa.bbb.ccc.ddd is the Subnet Mask) saveenv <enter> (this will save the environmental variables you have just changed) printenv <enter> (this will print out your settings for verification) At the prompt NetBotz> type the following: reset <enter>

7 10. Stop the boot at the point where it`s doing the autoboot countdown, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6... (it will tell you to hit <enter> and do so before the countdown expires). Now initiate the first part of the upgrade. At the prompt NetBotz> type the following: postupg <enter> If you see this, it means the network is not setup correctly and it needs to be done again: If it is successful, it will look like this: At the prompt NetBotz> type the following: reset <enter> 11. Stop the boot at the point where it`s doing the autoboot countdown, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6... (it will tell you to hit <enter> and do so before the countdown expires). At this point initiate the 2nd part of the upgrade procedure: At the prompt NetBotz> type one of the following: I) rootupg <enter> (this final upgrade option will wipe out all Bot configuration) The rootupg process will take about 7-8 minutes to complete. After the rootupg completes, your system will automatically reboot.

8 12. You have completed the upgrade process. Allow the device to boot completely to a log in prompt. Log int o the appliance using following credentials to set the ip address information. Username: root Password: apc **NOTE: YOU MUST PRESS <ENTER> AGAIN WITHIN 5 SECONDS OF LOGGING IN OR IT WILL TIME OUT** Press M to modify IP setting. Following the prompts to enter the correct IP addressing information If you do not want to change the setting, or you do not know what it is, press <Enter> to accept the default option. **Note: Please ensure that there are no entry mistakes when inputting any information, as pressing backspace will cause a failure to write information.** 13. You should be able to get to the device over the network now using Advance View. Close the terminal emulator and remove the USB cable.
