2 2 of 6 Project Grants National Plan for Science and Technology Code Number: 10-INF Title: Internet Traffic Analysis in Saudi Universities Budget: S.R. 612,000 Role: Principal Investigator Summary: With the growth of high bandwidth applications in the Internet, network traffic analysis increasingly demands methods that can scale up. This ongoing research project investigates methods to minimize the amount of network traffic to analyze in order to increase efficiency and scalability. Furthermore, statistical signal processing methods are used to analyze aggregate network traffic captured from KSU's network with focusing on botnet detection as it is became a major threat to the communication and information infrastructure. Raed: New Faculty Grant at KSU Code Number: NFG Title: A Novel CFAR Approach for Network Intrusion Detection Budget: S.R. 70,000 Role: Principal Investigator Summary: This ongoing project looks into increasing the efficiency of network traffic analysis by decomposing the traffic into control and data planes. Since the traffic of the two planes have similar behavior during benign behavior, instances where the similarity between the two traffic groups does not hold are studied as an indication of an abnormal behavior in the traffic. To achieve this, constant false alarm rate (CFAR) algorithms are applied to automatically adjusts the detection threshold. Center of Excellence in Learning and Teaching KSU Grant No. 56.
