SERVICE BULLETIN No. VA-04 Rev. 1 (Supersedes the previous issue approved on 11 October 2017) Design Organisation Approval No. AS-SB/18/016 dated 27 June 2018 INFORMATION SUBJECT: SVT FEATURE ENABLEMENT This revision is being issued to fix a typing error. 1. GENERAL 1.1 AIRCRAFT AFFECTED V1.0 s/n PURPOSE The purpose of this Service Bulletin is to supply information to upload the Garmin G500 Cockpit System with the Loader Card p/n , which enables the Terrain SVT (Synthetic Vision with Terrain Alerting). 1.3 DESCRIPTION Compliance with this Service Bulletin allows to activate the SVT feature on Garmin G500 Cockpit System. 2 1.4 COMPLIANCE At owner s discretion. The software is available only on the Garmin Dealer Resource Center for Garmin Authorized Service Centers. No additional works are required on aircraft electrical wiring. 1.5 MANHOURS The time necessary for the application of this Service Bulletin is estimated as being 1 man-hour. 1.6 SPECIAL TOOLS No special tool is required. 1.7 VARIATION IN WEIGHT & BALANCE Not applicable. 1.8 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM LOAD Not applicable. 1.9 REFERENCE DOCUMENTS Garmin G500 Pilot s Guide p/n PUBBLICATIONS AFFECTED None MODIFICATION TO BE CARRIED OUT BY Garmin Dealer Resource Center for Garmin Authorized Service Centers. 3 2. WORK PROCEDURE The following steps can be performed only by a Garmin Dealer Resource Center for Garmin Authorized Service Centers. This work procedure requires the SVT Enablement Card p/n to enable SVT feature. This work procedure requires the Unlock Loader Card Garmin p/n , available only on the Garmin Dealer Resource Center for Garmin Authorized Service Centers. Refer to the latest revision of Garmin G500 Pilot s Guide p/n for the system users operating procedures. 1. Turn OFF the GDU Remove the Database SD Card from the front SD card slot. 3. Insert the SVT Enablement Card p/n in the front upper SD card slot. 4. Insert the Unlock Card p/n in the front lower SD card slot. 5. Enter configuration mode on the GDU 620 by applying power to GDU 620 while holding the ENT key. 6. Go to FEATURE CONFIGURATION page in the SYS page group. Activate the cursor and change the set value for Synthetic Vision to ENABLED. Press ENT to confirm your selection. 7. Press ENT to acknowledge the prompt and activate the Synthetic Vision feature. 8. When the Synthetic Vision feature is activated, ENABLED will appear in the ACTIVE column. 9. Go to the TERRAIN-SVT SETUP page in the SYS page group. 10. Activate the cursor and set EXT TAWS to NOT INSTALLED, as shown in Figure 1. Page 3 of 5

4 1. Turn OFF the GDU620. Figure 1 Terrain-SVT setup 2. Remove the SVT Enablement Card p/n from the front upper SD card slot. 3. Remove the Unlock Card p/n from the front lower SD card slot. 4. Insert the Database SD Card in the SD card slot. Ensure that Terrain database in the Database SD Card is uploaded to 9 arc second resolution. 5. Start the GDU620 in normal mode. 6. Wait for the G500 system to initialize (attitude, heading, airspeed, altitude, and GPS position become valid). 7. PFD will show the screen with SVT disabled as in Figure 2. 5 8. On the PFD, press the PFD softkey, followed by SYN VIS softkey. Then press the SYN TERR softkey to turn ON the Synthetic Vision (sequence shown in Figure 3). Figure 3 Sequence to turn ON the Synthetic Vision It may take up to one minute for the Synthetic Terrain Data to be displayed on the PFD. Until SVT is active, the horizon display will be the standard blue over brown. 9. PFD will show the screen with SVT enabled as in Figure 4. Figure 4 SVT enabled 10. Verify that there are no SVT alerts. 11. Verify that Synthetic Terrain Data is displayed on the PFD. 12. Turn OFF the GDU Record compliance with this Service Bulletin in the Aircraft Log-Book.
