2 PC RateLink Ch.1: Introducing RateLink Introducing PC RateLink PC RateLink is an automated program to update the SuperLogics-based rates on PCs with the latest rates from a TRIPOS server. Once PC RateLink is installed, any new rates installed on the TRIPOS server are automatically transferred to the PCs when they are next rebooted. The diagram below outlines how the rates are transferred between the TRIPOS server and other PCs. The components in this setup are as follows: TRIPOS server: the latest rates are installed by either a network connection or direct from a CD. Master Server PC: these rates are transferred to the Master Server PC when rebooted, or a manual option selected. Client PCs: the rates are automatically transferred from the Master Server PC on the Client PCs when they are rebooted or at 20 minute intervals. If you are using a Tripos NT2 server, this takes the role of both the Tripos Server and the Master Server PC. 2
3 RateLink Ch.2: Installing PC RateLink Installing PC RateLink This section contains information on the following steps you must take to install PC RateLink: You must perform these steps in the specified order. 1. Nominate A PC As Master Server PC 2. Install PC RateLink Software On The Master Server PC 3. Install PC RateLink software On All The Client PCs You can then update the rates manually, if required, rather than waiting for a network connection. 3

Consider the following factors when nominating a Master Server PC: If you are using an NT2 box, this is the Master Server PC. The Master Server PC must be left on at all times, including out of office hours. This is to ensure it can receive rate updates during a network connection. The Server PC must have 10MB of disk space free. 5

Any rates transferred to the Master Server PC overnight are then transferred to each Client PC. 13
14 PC RateLink Installing Master Server PC Rate Updates Manually Installing Master Server PC Rate Updates Manually There are two methods for updating rates manually: updating rates that were not transferred during a network connection. updating rates at a time other than during a network connection. Updating Rates Not Transferred During A Network Connection Normally, rates are transferred from the Tripos Server to the Master Server PC during a network connection. However, if an application was left running on the Master Server PC, the PC rates cannot be updated. In such situations, you must update the rates manually. 1. Right click the mouse button over the blue lightning icon in the system tray at the bottom of the screen. 2. Select the Update Rates option from the menu that appears. The rates are then updated. Select the System Exit option from the System Control menu on the TRIPOS lead terminal. 2. Enter the text shown below and press RETURN: PSLTRANPCLINK The command takes about 10 to 20 minutes to complete. 14
15 RateLink Installing Client PC Rate Updates Manually Occasionally you may need to transfer rates manually rather than having to wait for the next network connection eg when installing PC RateLink from disks for the first time. 1. Move the mouse pointer to the bottom left hand side of the screen and click the Start button with the left mouse button. Select the Programs option by clicking on it with the left mouse button. 2. Select the Open G I option, followed by PC RateLink and then the Update Rates option. Alternatively, you can reboot the Client PCs which automatically transfers the latest rates from the Master Server PC. If the system cannot find the Master Server PC, please contact Open G I for further information.
