4 Aout VMwre Vlidted Design 1 The VMwre Vlidted Design document provides guidnce on the use of vsphere Storge API - Dt Protection (VADP) solution for performing ckup nd restore of the mngement components in the Softwre-Defined Dt Center (SDDC). After you deploy the VMwre Vlidted Design for Softwre-Defined Dt Center, cking up mngement components ensures tht you cn keep your environment opertionl in the event of dt loss or filure. You implement scheduled ckups to prepre for: A criticl filure of ny mngement component An upgrde of ny mngement component Updting the certificte of ny mngement component Intended Audience VMwre Vlidted Design is intended for cloud rchitects, infrstructure dministrtors, cloud dministrtors, nd cloud opertors who re fmilir with nd wnt to use VMwre softwre to deploy nd mnge n SDDC tht meets the requirements for cpcity, sclility, ckup nd restore, nd extensiility for disster recovery support. 5 Component Bckup Jos for 2 Dt Protection You cn configure ckup for ech SDDC mngement component seprtely. For this scenrio, there is no requirement to ck up the entire SDDC, nd this design does not imply such n opertion. Some products cn perform internl configurtion ckups. Use those products in ddition to the whole VM component ckups s pproprite. Prerequisites for Bcking Up Cloud Mngement Lyer Before cking up the Cloud Mngement Lyer, follow these guidelines. vrelize Business Bckup Prerequisites Verify tht the following prerequisites re met efore you ck up vrelize Business node: vrelize Business is running nd vrelize Automtion is registered with it. Ensure tht you cn view the Business Mngement t in your vrelize Automtion deployment. vrelize Business is clculting the correct cost of the virtul mchines. 10 Prerequisites for Restoring the 4 Softwre-Defined Dt Center Before restoring the SDDC, follow these guidelines. Prerequisites If you hve tken ny snpshots, you must remove the snpshots efore you restore ny virtul mchines. Mke sure tht restored nodes re in powered-off stte. Restore the nodes in specific order nd pply mnul configurtion chnges where pplicle. You cn restore the virtul mchines to the sme host, to different host on the sme dt center, or to different host on trget dt center, depending on the ckup tool used. VMwre, Inc. 10

11 Procedure 5 y Solution You ck up nd restore the mngement components in the SDDC using two methods - solution comptile with vsphere Storge API for Dt Protection (VADP) for imge-sed ckup of ll components nd solution for file-sed ckup of NSX components using NSX Mnger. This VMwre Vlidted Design opertionl guide uses vsphere Dt Protection s reference ckup solution. You cn select different VADP comptile solution for imge-sed ckup. Procedures Using vsphere Dt Protection Use the following procedures to perform ckup using vsphere Dt Protection, so tht you cn restore the working stte of the system in n event of filure. 12 Perform n Emergency Restore of vcenter Server If the Mngement vcenter Server stops responding or ecomes corrupt s result of filure, you perform direct-to-host emergency restore to return the Mngement vcenter Server to n opertionl stte. vsphere Dt Protection restores the VM tht contins the vcenter Server or Pltform Services Controller directly on the ESXi host tht is running the vsphere Dt Protection pplince. Crete Scheduled Bckup Jo y Using vsphere Dt Protection Crete full virtul mchine imge ckup jos to ck up vcenter Server instnces, Pltform Services Controller instnces, vrelize Opertions Mnger, vrelize Log Insight, Cloud Mngement Pltform, nd vsphere Updte Mnger Downlod Service in Region A nd Region B. To ensure tht VMwre vsphere Dt Protection does not perform quiesced ckup, you must disle quiescing on the vrelize Opertions Mnger nd vrelize Log Insight pplinces. For dditionl informtion on how to disle quiescing, see vrelize Opertions Mnger Preprtions for Bcking Up section in the vrelize Suite 2017 documenttion. For solutions tht support non-quiesced ckups disling quiescing is not necessry. Procedure 1 Log in to vcenter Server y using the vsphere We Client. Procedure 1 Log in to vcenter Server y using the vsphere We Client. On the Welcome to vsphere Dt Protection pge, select sfo01m01vdp01 from the VDP Applince drop-down menu nd click Connect. Click the Restore t. Select node of the specific product. You see the list of the ckups for the pplince. e f g Select the check ox for the ltest pplince ckup nd click the ck rrow to return to the list of ckups. Select the ltest ckups of the other pplinces of the product. Click Restore on the toolr. The Restore ckup wizrd opens. h i j k On the Select Bckup pge, click Next. On the Set Restore Options pge, select Restore to originl loction for ech pplince, nd click Next. On the Redy to Complete pge, click Finish. Click OK to close the Info dilog ox. 4 Verify tht the restore is successful. On the vsphere Dt Protection pge, click the Configurtion t nd click Log. 20 Procedure 1 Log in to the vsphere Dt Protection Configure Utility. Open We rowser nd go to Log in using the following credentils. Setting User nme Pssword Vlue root vdp_pplince_root_pssword 2 Click the Configurtion t. In the Proxies tle, locte the ESXi host tht runs the sfo01m01vdp01 pplince nd note down the FQDN of the host. 3 Disconnect the ESXi host tht is running the vsphere Dt Protection pplince from the Mngement vcenter Server.
