TARGETS. ARRISK IS A MODELING SUITE DEDICATED TO CONSEQUENCE ANALYSIS OF TOXIC / FLAMMABLE RELEASES IN THE ATMOSPHERE. ITS GRAPHICAL USER INTERFACE ALLOWS THE USER TO QUICKLY SET UP AND PERFORM A DETAILED TRIDIMENSIONAL SIMULATION. AS A RESULT OF THE SIMULATION A TEXTUAL REPORT FILE IS PRODUCED INCLUDING SETUP PARAMETERS AND THE MAIN OUTPUT INFORMATION; A PLOTTING TOOL HAS BEEN INTEGRATED TO VISUALIZE RESULTS IN CONFIGURABLE MAPS. ArRISK WAS DEVELOPED IN PARTNERSHIP WITH INAIL (FORMER ISPESL), THE ITALIAN INSTITUTE FOR OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND INGIURY PREVENTION, WITH THE AIM OF IMPROVING THE REALIABILITY OF SAFETY REPORTS, OFTEN BASED ON THE APPLICATION OF MORE SIMPLIFIED METHODOLOGIES. MAP OF THE AREA BOUNDED BY FLAMMABILITY LIMITS INDUSTRIAL FRAMEWORK WITH A SERIES OF TANKS ACTING AS OBSTACLES IN THE DISPERSION OF THE EMITTED SUBSTANCE CONNCENTRATIONS COLOUR MAP ACCORDING TO THE COLOUR SCALE TO THE RIGHT MAP OF THREE TOXICITY LEVELS (AEGL1, AEGL2 AND AEGL3) URBAN FRAMEWORK, HYDROGEN SULFIDE CONCENTRATION LEVEL AT A RECEPTOR POINT (BLUE LINE) COMPARED WITH TOXICITY STANDARD THRESHOLDS (RED LINES)
EMISSION SOURCE. THE SUITE INCLUDES A DATABASE OF THE SPECIFIC THERMODYNAMIC AND RISK PARAMETERS OF MORE THAN 400 CHEMICALS. VISUALIZATION, EDITING AND INTEGRATION OF DATABASE IS POSSIBLE THROUGH THE GRAPHICAL INTERFACE. THE MODEL SIMULATES THE DISCHARGE FROM ACCIDENTAL EVENTS LIKE A PUNCTURED TANK OR PIPE GIVING THE EMISSION RATE OF LIQUID, AEROSOL AND GAS CONTRIBUTIONS. IN CASE OF LIQUID RELEASE BOTH POOL EXPANSION (CONFINED OR UNCONFINED) AND EVAPORATION ARE SIMULATED. DIRECT DEFINITION OF SOURCE: VISUALIZATION OF OUTFLOW HISTOGRAM AND INTERACTIVE MODIFICATION OF BAR HEIGHTS EXTRACT OF ArRISK GRAPHICAL INTERFACE FOR THE DEFINITION OF AN ACCIDENTAL SCENARIO EXAMPLE OF TABULAR DATA FILE FOR THE DEFINITION OF THE SOURCE THROUGH THE SPREADSHEET
ATMOSPHERIC SETUP. A SIMPLIFIED METEOROLOGICAL FRAMEWORK CAN BE DEFINED BY A LIMITED SET OF PARAMETERS (STABILITY CLASS, WIND SPEED AND DIRECTION, TEMPERATURE AND GROUND TYPE). WHEN METEO STATION MEASUREMENTS ARE AVAILABLE, TIME AND SPATIAL VARIYNG METOROLOGY CORRESPONDING TO A REALISTIC EVENT IS REPRODUCED. SIMPLYFIED METEO DEFINITION DEFINITION OF THE METEOROLOGICAL DATA COLLECTION FILE FOR A REALISTIC METEO SIMULATION STARTING FROM STATION MEASUREMENTS WIND FILD INTERFERENCED BY A SERIES OF OBSTACLES - VECTORIAL VISULAIZATION
SPATIAL FRAMEWORK AND ATMOSPHERIC DISPERSION. ArRISK ALLOW THE STUDY OF DISPERSION IN REALISTIC SPATIAL GEOMETRIES, AS INDUSTRIAL AREAS AND URBAN CANYONS, WHERE THE PRESENCE OF STRUCTURES AND BUILDINGS AFFECTS REMARKABLY THE DISPERSION PROCESS. THE USER CAN DEFINE SPATIAL CHERACTERISTICS BY MEANS OF A GIS FORMATTED FILE OR DIRECTLY GIVING COORDINATES AND ELEVATION OF BUILDINGS. THE DISPERSION MODEL CAN SIMULATE DIFFERENT TYPES OF SOURCES: COLD SOURCES, STACKS, FIRES, FLARES, HEAVY GASES SPREADING AT GROUND AND GASES LIGHTER THAN AIR. VISUALIZATION OF BUILDINGS IN A URBAN AREA DEFINITION OF SIMULATION VERTICAL GRID (LEFT) AND VISUALIZATION OF BUILDINGS IN THE HORIZONTAL SIMULATION DOMAIN (RIGHT) WIND SPEED IN A CONTEXT WITH MANY BUILDINGS
AS FOR THE SIMULATION OF CHEMICALS DISPERSION AT LARGE SCALE (TENS OF KILOMETERS) THE PRESENCE OF TOPOGRAPHY AND INHOMOGENEOUS SURFACE ROUGHNESS PLAY AN IMPORTANT ROLE: OROGRAPHY AND LAND COVER DATA ARE AUTOMATICALLY EXTRACTED FROM AN EMBEDDED DATABASE ON THE TARGET DOMAIN. EVERY SIMULATION PRODUCE OUTPUT FILES WHOSE FORMAT IS SUPPORTED BY THE GRAPHIC SOFTWARES AVISU (ARIANET) AND SURFER (GOLDEN SOFTWARE). OROGRAPHY EXTRACTED AND MAPPED BY ArRISK VISUALIZATION OF THE EXPORTED KML FILE IN GOOGLE EARTH LAND COVER MAP PRODUCED BY ArRISK AVISU GRAPHICS CONTOUR LINES, WIND FILD AND LAGRANGIAN PARTICLES
BENEFITS SETUP AND EXECUTION OF THREE IDIMENSIONAL SIMULATIONS IN FEW MINUTES AND VISUALIZATION OF RESULTS USING THE EMBEDDED GRAPHIC SYSTEM TREATMENT OF SPATIAL FRAMEWORKS CHARACTERIZED BY BUILDINGS AND INDUSTRIAL FACILITIES SIMULATION OF NON-STATIONARY AND NON-UNIFORM METEOROLOGY IN PRESENCE OF OROGRAPHY APPLICATIONS SAFETY ANALYSIS EXTERNAL EMERGENCY PLANNING TERRITORIAL PLANNING REAL TIME EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT DAMAGE EVALUATION REFERENCES PROJECT DEVELOPED IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE ITALIAN INSTITUTE FOR OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND INGIURY PREHEVENTION (ISPESL) METEOROLOGICAL AND DISPERSION MODELS VALIDATED IN A WIDE SET OF STUDIES PUBLISHED IN INTERNATIONAL SCIENTIFIC JOURNALS.
