Femap v11.2 Geometry Updates Chip Fricke, Femap Principal Applications Engineer Femap Symposium Series 2015 June, 2015 Femap Symposium Series 2015
Femap v11.2 Geometry Creation and Editing Enhancements Addition of a Smart Snap mode Geometry -> Midsurface -> Automatic, Variable Thickness Processing Enhanced Geometry -> Curve From Surface -> Offset Curve/Washer and Pad commands Enhanced Geometry -> Surface -> NonManifold Add command Addition of a Geometry -> Surface -> Extract command Geometry -> Solid commands: Addition of an Extend command Enhanced Slice command Modify > Move By > Point command enhanced to include moving points on Solids Modify -> Move By -> Curve command enhanced to include moving curves on Solids Page 2
Femap v11.2 Meshing Toolbox Geometry Enhancements Feature Removal: Removal of Curves now allows removal of exterior boundary curves Removal of Blends operation added Feature Editing: Edit operation added Offset surface operation added Geometry Editing Enhanced Pad and Washer operations Enhanced Extend operation Project / Move Point operation added Project Curve operation added Page 3
Femap v11.2 Smart Snap Mode Femap now has a Smart Snap mode that locates the closest: End Point Midpoint Arc Center Activate via the Snap Mode icon on the Select toolbar and the Quick Access menu You can now set Snap Mode as the Snap to Femap Preference Page 4
Geometry > Midsurface > Automatic Command Variable Thickness Processing option use to generate a mid-surface from a pair of non-parallel faces Page 5
Femap v Geometry -> Curve - From Surface commands The Geometry -> Curve - From Surface -> Offset Curve/Washer and Geometry -> Curve - From Surface -> Pad commands have been modified to include options for both Factor and Distance The same options are also available for the Washer and Pad operations in the Meshing Toolbox Page 6
Femap v Pad Operation The Geometry > Curve - From Surface -> Pad command and Meshing Toolbox Geometry Editing Pad operation now automatically recognizes straight slots and generates a continuous offset region around the slot Page 7
Femap v Other Geometry Operation Enhancements The Geometry -> Surface -> NonManifold Add command includes an option for Express processing Increases performance as it is run using a single call to the Parasolid engine A new command, Geometry -> Surface -> Extract removes and copies selected surface(s) from their original bodies into new Sheet Solids Page 8
Femap v11.2 Geometry -> Solid -> Extend command The Geometry -> Solid -> Extend has been added to allow the extrusion of a surface on a solid body up to the intersection with a surface on another body Interior boundaries on the Extend To surface are ignored Page 9
Femap v11.2 Geometry -> Solid -> Slice command The updated Slice command replaces the Slice, Slice Match and Slice Along Face commands New options: Generate Cross Sections Slice With Sheet Solid Slice With Curve Slice with multiple Parallel Planes using: Along Curve Normal planar curves only Vector Direction Only Specify the Slice Color Delete Slicing Tool Repeated Slicing with multiple, user-defined planes Page 10
Femap v11.2 Modify -> Move By -> Point command The Move By -> Point command has been updated to include moving of points on Parasolid bodies (including Non-manifold bodies) Page 11
Femap v11.2 Modify -> Move By -> Curve command The Move By -> Curve command has been updated to include moving of curves on Parasolid bodies (including Non-manifold bodies) Page 12
Femap v Meshing Toolbox Feature Removal Tool - Curves For exterior boundaries of solids, including boundaries on Non-Manifold bodies, removal of Curves is now supported Page 13
Femap v Meshing Toolbox Feature Removal Tool - Blends Blends can be now automatically detected on solid volume bodies and removed The Limit Size option can be used to keep blends above a user-entered radius Page 14
Femap v Meshing Toolbox Feature Editing Tool - Edit The Edit operation can be used to modify blend radii, radii of cylinders or to move planar surfaces The Auto Extend option should be used maintain tangency with adjacent surfaces and update continuous blends with the inputted Value Page 15
Femap v Meshing Toolbox Feature Editing Tool - Offset The Offset operation can be used to offset surfaces on a solid volume body by the inputted Value The Auto Extend option should be used maintain tangency with adjacent surfaces, and offsets all tangent surfaces by the Value, including blends and radii Page 16
Femap v Meshing Toolbox Feature Editing Tool Extend The Extend operation has been enhanced to include two (2) new options for Extend To: Surface Surface Auto Curve allows the extension of all surfaces continuous with the surface that the selected curve is attached to Page 17
Femap v Meshing Toolbox Feature Editing Tool Project/Move Point The Project/Move Point operation allows the editing of points on solids by: Moving selected point(s) to a Point Project selected point(s) to a: Curve* Surface* or Solid* Includes an option for Edge Aligned* to maintain direction of one of the curves attached to the point Page 18
Femap v Meshing Toolbox Feature Editing Tool Project/Move Point Example of using/not using the Edge Aligned option Edge Aligned option enabled Page 19
Femap v Meshing Toolbox Feature Editing Tool Project Curve A Project Curve operation can be used to project a curve or curves to a Surface to Split Operation projects curves Normal to the Surface to Split using: Imprint Imprint, Extend or Imprint, Extend, Clean Page 20
