1 Signing up to the G3UES Yahoo! Group In your web browser (i.e. Internet Explorer, FireFox, Google Chrome etc.), visit the URL Towards the top right-hand corner, where it says New Here?, click the Sign Up link. You will get this screen Fill in your First Name and Surname, and select a suitable Yahoo UserName, e.g. you could use your call-sign. Enter a suitably secure Password that you d like to use tick the show box so that you can check you ve typed it in correctly. You don t have to enter a mobile number, but it may be of use if/when you forget your password! You do have to put in a number though, it can be your home number (as in the example below). Use the drop-down arrows to set your date of birth (you can lie if you like!) Select Male or Female depending on your whim! Again, you don t have to complete the Optional Recovery Number and Relationship.

2 Click the Create Account button. You will get a verification screen regarding the phone number; so, click Continue, e.g. It will then offer to call you Click the Call me button.

3 An English-speaking computerised system will phone you and give you a 5-digit code which you need to type into the box (click in the box before you try to type the number in!). It will repeat the number so that you can verify you typed it in correctly. Press Submit Code. Hopefully you will get the same message as I did when making this document. I have now set up a new account, with the username stupid.boy73 and the password StUpiDbOy I suggest you un-tick the Contact me box (unless you love junk s), then click the Get Started button.

4 To sign up to the G3UES group, visit Type g3ues in the Find a Yahoo! Group box, then click the Search button.

You will get this screen next Because it s a private group that s not open to everyone, you have to apply to become a member of it. I am the Moderator, and will, of course, accept your application!

Select whether you want to receive an every time one of the Members posts a message to the group, or whether you d rather receive just one per day the Daily Digest containing all the posted messages from the last 24 hours. It s your choice, and you can always change it at a later date. You will need to input the verification code (if you can decipher it in all the tangled graphics), e.g. the code show to me (below) is TcLVdud, which needs to be typed into the box shown. If you can t read it, press the Try a new code button, or if you d prefer to hear one read out to you, press the Audio code button.

Once you ve managed to enter the code, click the Join button at the bottom right of the screen. You will get this message Once Membership has been approved, when you visit the Yahoo!

Groups Home Page and login, you will be able to go to the G3UES group and join in all the fun! In the Files section, you will find that the latest Membership List is available for download, along with the most recent Newsletters. You have to click the More dropdown in order to be able to select the Files option. This is a new feature in Yahoo! Groups up until the summer of 2013, you could simply click a Files link at the lefthand side. That s progress, I suppose two clicks required now instead of one!

By the way, all the stuff you see in there with g1ide as the call-sign was created by me I originally joined Yahoo! Groups long before I had my m0sar call. There are thousands of Yahoo!

Groups available some are open to anyone, others are private, like the G3UES one, and are only open to pre-approved members. Personally, I belong to over 20 groups, covering such things as the ham rigs I ve got, QRP, contesting, the car I drive and other interests I have. You don t have to join in with the discussions it s quite acceptable to lurk and just soak up the information if that s what you want to do. I hope this has adequately shown those of you who are on the internet but who haven t joined the G3UES group (yet!), that it s easy enough to do. You might want to change your Yahoo! Profile to add your normal address, so that the Daily Digests go to that account, otherwise you ll need to check your Yahoo! Mail after you ve logged into Yahoo!
