Content Collection What is Content Management? Blackboard s Content Collection is a file repository which allows faculty to store, manage, and share content within personal user folders, course folders, and institution folders in the Content Collection throughout courses in Blackboard Learn. Files and portfolios can be linked in different areas in a course and items from a course can be added to a folder in the Content Collection. How to Access Content Collection From a course: From the homepage: Click on Content Collection in the Control Panel of the Course Management tools Click on Content Collection in the upper right corner of Blackboard How to Create an Item 1. 4 How to Move Files from Course Content into My Content Best Practice dictates that to use Content Collection successfully, you should be storing your course files in My Content. So when you get started, the first thing you may want to do is start moving your files from Course Content to My Content so that you can re-use them in multiple courses. Any documents, files, images, videos, etc, that you upload to an individual course, automatically get stored in Course Content within that specific course folder. In order for you to be able to link to that file from multiple courses, you will want to move it into My Content. Before you do this, be sure to create the proper folder structure per the previous instructions. For instance, if you are storing course resources you use in your English 101 courses, but not your English 102 courses, then you would want to have separate folders in My Content for English 101 and English 102. How to Move Files from Course Content into My Content 1. Click on Content Collection in the upper right hand-corner. 2. Then click on Course Content 3. Click on the desired course folder.
1. On the Course Content page, click on the small grey arrow to the right of the file name you wish to move. 2. Select Move from the dropdown menu. 3. On the Move screen, select your Destination by clicking the Browse button. 4. In the Browse Content Collection window, point your mouse over Browse, and select My Content from the dropdown menu.
5. Select the folder where you want to store the file. (If you did not create any files, then just click Submit). 6. Click Submit 7. Once you return to the Move screen, click Submit again to confirm your selection.
How to Add Content to Courses from My Content Collection Once you ve got the process down of uploading your files to My Content first, then you need to know how to link to those files in your courses. The process is very similar to how you normally upload content to courses, but rather than browse your computer you are going to browse content collection. First, enter the course in which you want to add the specific content. 1. Navigate to the course and content area where you want to add the content: Example: Course Resources 2. Hover over Build Content and select the type of content you d like to add. Example: File
3. Name your file 4. Find your file: Select Browse Content Collection 5. In the Browse Content Collection window, click Browse, select My Content, and open the folder that contains your file. 6. Select the file and click Submit. 7. Once you return to the main Create File page, complete the optional settings (availability and/or date restrictions) 8. Click Submit.
How to Copy your Course now that you are using My Content Now that you are using My Content to store and link all your course files, you will want to copy your course a little differently. 1. From the course you want to copy, click on Control Panel Packages and Utilities Course Copy 2. Navigate to the existing course you want to copy to (Destination course) 3. Check the Content Areas you want to copy, as you normally would. 4. In the FILE ATTACHMENTS section, select: Copy links to Course Files. ONLY USE THIS SELECTION IF YOU ARE USING MY CONTENT to store and link all course files.
Portfolios What are Portfolios? Portfolios provide a powerful medium for users to efficiently collect and organize artifacts representative of work completed over time. Portfolios offer a means to demonstrate formative and/or summative progress and achievement. Users are empowered with tools to effectively present their information in a cohesive, personalized format Assigning Portfolios to Students as an Assignment There is a new link within the Assignment tool in Blackboard that allows you to select a Portfolio submission for the assignment. Students can build their own, or you can create a specific template for them to use, and select that template when you are creating the assignment. 1. Navigate to the Content Area in your course where you want to post the assignment (such as Assignments) 2. Hover your mouse over Assessments and select Assignment from the dropdown. 1. In the Grading section of the assignment, click on Submission Details. 2. Then select the radio button for Portfolio Submission. 3. If you ve created a template for your students to use, click Select Portfolio Template. Otherwise, complete the remaining settings and click Submit.
Creating Portfolios When the student clicks on the assignment to complete it, they will give their portfolio a Title. When they click Submit, it will take them to the portfolio interface. The Portfolio Interface
Managing Portfolios Users can manage (create/edit/share) their portfolios from any course. 1. Within any course, click on Tools on the left navigation bar. 2. Then click on Portfolios Homepage Any portfolios you have already created will appear on the Portfolios Homepage automatically. 1. To create a new portfolio from here, click Create Portfolio.
Once you ve created a portfolio, it will remain in your My Portfolio area. 1. To share a portfolio, click on More and select Share from the dropdown 2. Select the users (or courses) you want to share a snapshot with. A snapshot is the version of the portfolio at a specific moment in time. Access your Portfolio Homepage from Anywhere You don t have to be enrolled in a course to see your Portfolios. You can also access them from the Global Navigation menu. 1. At the top of the screen, click on your name to access the Global Navigation menu. 2. Click on Tools to open the Tools menu 3. Click on Portfolios to access your Portfolio homepage and manage all your portfolios.
