4 Cisco UCS Performnce Mnger Migrtion Guide Prefce Cisco UCS Performnce Mnger Migrtion Guide provides detiled instructions for migrting n existing Cisco UCS Performnce Mnger or Cisco UCS Performnce Mnger Express deployment from version 1.1.x to version 2.0 (Previous versions must e upgrded first. For more informtion, refer to the Cisco UCS Performnce Mnger Instlltion Guide for version 1.1.x.) Note For convenience, this document uses "Cisco UCS Performnce Mnger" genericlly. 5 Migrtion process overview Migrtion process overview 1 The migrtion process involves comintion of tools nd procedures you perform on your version 1.1.x nd 2.0 systems. The process my e performed s mny times s you wish, nd you my use oth systems simultneously, until you re redy to retire your version 1.1.x system. There re mny rchitecturl differences etween the two versions of Cisco UCS Performnce Mnger. The differences etween the technologies used for storing nd visulizing performnce dt ffect migrtion the most. Version 1.1.x relies on the RRDtool suite to store nd disply performnce dt. The storge technology is fixed-size, round-roin dtse file for ech monitored device or component. The size of dtse file depends on the monitoring intervl nd the mount of history to mintin. Version 2.0 stores the rw vlues of ll monitoring dt, for ll devices nd components, in centrl OpenTSDB/HBse cluster. Clients my request rw or consolidted dt from centrl query server, nd use ny dt visuliztion tool to disply the dt. The durtion of the migrtion process depends primrily on the mount of version 1.1.x performnce dt to convert nd insert into the OpenTSDB/HBse cluster. Therefore, migrting performnce dt is optionl. The following topics descrie the discrete portions of the migrtion process in greter detil. Note The migrtion process requires tht oth Cisco UCS Performnce Mnger systems cn use common dtstore or dtstore cluster. In ddition, the dtstore must support 400 IOPS. Prepring to migrte On version 1.1.x systems, preprtion is simple: downlod nd instll the export toolox. The toolox downlod procedure is descried in the export chpter. On version 2.0 systems, preprtion involves instlling Cisco UCS Performnce Mnger on mster host. Once instlled, monitoring is not strted until migrtion completes. Otherwise, you must dd devices to the version 2.0 mnully. Exporting dt The following export steps re performed on the version 1.1.x system: 1 Downlod nd instll the export toolox. 2 Strt the interctive export script: Decemer

6 Cisco UCS Performnce Mnger Migrtion Guide c Once the script hs identified the lock storge tht is ttched to the virtul mchine, it prompts you to crete virtul disk through your hypervisor. The script loctes the virtul disk, prepres it, nd exports your dt to it. The script prompts you to remove the virtul disk through your hypervisor. This guide includes the required hypervisor procedures, in n ppendix. The following list identifies the dt tht is exported: A file listing of ll of the devices nd components monitored y the version 1.1.x system. A copy of your Cisco UCS Performnce Mnger license file. The unique identifier of your version 1.1.x model dtse. The ckup file of your version 1.1.x system, nd file contining the md5 hsh of the ckup file. Note The dshord rchitecture in version 2.0 is chnged, so dshord settings re not migrted. Importing dt The import process includes the following phses: Setup The Setup phse verifies tht your Cisco UCS Performnce Mnger 2.0 system is fully instlled nd redy to perform migrtion. If necessry, the Cisco UCSPM v2 Migrtion Wizrd instlls required tools nd initilizes the migrtion services. Vlidtion The Vlidtion phse identifies the export file, unpcks it, nd exmines its contents. The time to complete this phse vries, depending on the size of the export file. Migrtion The Migrtion phse lunches vriety of prllel processes to lod your exported dt into your version 2.0 system. Typiclly, performnce dt tkes much longer to process thn the required dt. So, when the required dt is imported, you re notified tht you my egin monitoring your environment. The performnce dt continues loding independently. Import ssumes tht your version 2.0 system is unused, nd does not mintin ny existing dt in the system. To repet n export-import cycle, you must instll your version 2.0 system gin. Post-migrtion steps The finl steps include vlidting the migrtion, detching the virtul disk of export dt, nd removing the migrtion tools from your version 2.0 system, if necessry. Migrtion enles the disply of some component dt tht ws collected ut not displyed on version 1.1.x systems. Specificlly, Linux, Windows, vsphere, nd Hyper-V server devices now disply the following, previously-hidden components: Network Routes OS Processes File Systems IP Services Previously, only Interfces nd Processor components were displyed. As side ffect, the migrtion chnges the Lst Chnge nd Model Time vlues of the devices. 6 Decemer 2015

7 Exporting dt from your 1.1.x system Exporting dt from your 1.1.x system 2 This chpter descries how to export dt from Cisco UCS Performnce Mnger version 1.1.x. For informtion out upgrding n erlier version of Cisco UCS Performnce Mnger, refer to the Cisco UCS Performnce Mnger Instlltion Guide for your relese. You my export dt s mny times s you wish. Instlling the export toolox The procedures in this section descrie how to downlod nd instll the export toolox, which contins the export script, export4. Downloding the export toolox To perform this procedure, you need: A worksttion with internet ccess A commnd-line downlod utility such s curl 1 Open commnd window on worksttion with internet ccess. 2 Downlod the export toolox. The following exmple uses the curl utility. myurl= curl -sl --insecure -o export_toolox.zip $myurl Trnsfering the export toolox To perform this procedure, you need: A copy of the export toolox (on your worksttion) A file trnsfer utility such s WinSCP The hostnme or IP ddress of the Cisco UCS Performnce Mnger 1.1.x virtul mchine The pssword of the root ccount on the Cisco UCS Performnce Mnger 1.1.x virtul mchine 1 Strt the WinSCP utility. 2 Strt n SFTP session with the Cisco UCS Performnce Mnger virtul mchine. In the Host nme field, enter the hostnme or IP ddress of the virtul mchine. Decemer

In the worksttion pne (the left pne), nvigte to the directory in which the export toolox is locted. In the virtul mchine pne (the right pne), nvigte to /tmp. 4 Select nd trnsfer the toolox. In the worksttion pne, select the export toolox. From the File menu, select Uplod. 5 End the SFTP session. From the Session menu, select Disconnect. Instlling the export toolox To perform this procedure, you need: Access to the console of the Cisco UCS Performnce Mnger version 1.1.x virtul mchine, through VMwre vsphere, Microsoft Hyper-V, or text-sed, remote shell utility such s PuTTY The hostnme or IP ddress of the Cisco UCS Performnce Mnger version 1.1.x virtul mchine The pssword of the root ccount on the Cisco UCS Performnce Mnger version 1.1.x virtul mchine 1 Log in to the Cisco UCS Performnce Mnger virtul mchine s root. 2 From the UCS Performnce Mnger Administrtion menu, use the rrow keys to select Root Shell, nd then press the Enter key. 3 Switch the user ccount to zenoss. su - zenoss 4 Instll the toolox. esy_instll /tmp/export_toolox.zip 5 Log out of the Cisco UCS Performnce Mnger virtul mchine. Switch the user ccount ck to root. exit Exit the shell. exit c From the UCS Performnce Mnger Administrtion menu, use the rrow keys to select Exit, nd then press the Enter key. Exporting dt To perform this procedure, you need the following: Access to the console of the Cisco UCS Performnce Mnger version 1.1.x virtul mchine, through VMwre vsphere, Microsoft Hyper-V, or text-sed, remote shell utility such s PuTTY The hostnme or IP ddress of the Cisco UCS Performnce Mnger version 1.1.x virtul mchine The pssword of the root ccount on the Cisco UCS Performnce Mnger version 1.1.x virtul mchine This procedure exports Cisco UCS Performnce Mnger version 1.1.x dt for import into version 2.0 deployment of Cisco UCS Performnce Mnger. To ensure dt integrity, the script in this procedure stops Cisco 8 Decemer 2015

9 Exporting dt from your 1.1.x system UCS Performnce Mnger. The mount of time required to complete dt collection is slightly longer thn the time required to perform complete ckup of Cisco UCS Performnce Mnger. 1 Log in to the Cisco UCS Performnce Mnger virtul mchine s root. 2 From the UCS Performnce Mnger Administrtion menu, use the rrow key to select Root Shell, nd then press the Enter key. 3 Switch the user ccount to zenoss. su - zenoss 4 Export dt to virtul disk. Strt the interctive export4 script. Chose one of the following options: Include ll dt: export4 -s Exclude performnce dt: export4 -s -p The script clcultes the mount of spce required for the ckup, performs some vlidtion steps, nd then displys the following prompt: Verify tht the export disk is not dded to the virtul mchine... Enter root pssword when prompted -> Pssword: Enter the root pssword. The script scns the virtul mchine for ttched lock storge. Add the export disk to the virtul mchine now. <ENTER> to continue, <CTRL+C> to quit... c d Add virtul disk to the version 1.1.x virtul mchine. For more informtion, see Creting virtul disk on pge 17. When the virtul disk is dded, press the Enter key. New device identified -> /dev/sd [900G] WARNING: Redy to prepre /dev/sd [900G] for export... <ENTER> to continue, <CTRL+C> to quit... e Press the Enter key. The script formts nd mounts the virtul disk s file system. All Zenoss services will e stopped to export dt for migrtion. The services re restrted once the ckup completes. Press ENTER to continue or <CTRL+C> to quit f Press the Enter key. The script stops services, performs full ckup, restrts services, nd then displys the following prompt: Unmounting - enter root pssword when prompted -> Pssword: g Enter the root pssword. Decemer

Remove the virtul disk from the version 1.1.x virtul mchine. For more informtion, see Removing virtul disk on pge 19. i Press the Enter key. 5 Log out of the Cisco UCS Performnce Mnger virtul mchine. 11 Importing dt into your 2.0 system Importing dt into your 2.0 system 3 This chpter descries how to import dt from Cisco UCS Performnce Mnger version 1.1.x into version 2.0. Note All import processing occurs on the version 2.0 virtul mchine. The version 1.1.x system is not contcted or otherwise ffected y import processing. You my import dt s mny times s you wish. However, you must reinstll your version 2.0 system for ech import. The import process includes the following phses: Setup The Setup phse verifies tht your Cisco UCS Performnce Mnger 2.0 system is fully instlled nd redy to perform migrtion. If necessry, the Cisco UCSPM v2 Migrtion Wizrd instlls required tools nd initilizes the migrtion services. Vlidtion The Vlidtion phse identifies the export file, unpcks it, nd exmines its contents. The time to complete this phse vries, depending on the size of the export file. Migrtion The Migrtion phse lunches vriety of prllel processes to lod your exported dt into your version 2.0 system. The informtion is imported into your version 2.0 system, nd the import process deletes existing ccounts (of which there should e none). Prepring to import To perform the procedures in this chpter, Cisco UCS Performnce Mnger version 2.0 must e instlled nd deployed in your environment. For more informtion, refer to the Cisco UCS Performnce Mnger Instlltion Guide for version 2.0. In ddition, the virtul disk contining your version 1.1.x export dt must e ttched to your version 2.0 virtul mchine. For more informtion, see Attching virtul disk on pge 20. Decemer

12 Cisco UCS Performnce Mnger Migrtion Guide Note If your version 1.1.x system supports 100 or more devices, increse the numer of CPU cores ville to your version 2.0 system from 8 to 16 efore strting n import. You my reduce the numer of cores ck to 8 when migrtion is complete. The migrtion process is mnged y the Cisco UCSPM v2 Migrtion Wizrd, rowser-sed ppliction tht is hosted on your version 2.0 virtul mchine. To gin ccess to the wizrd, you need supported rowser nd the pssword of the root or ccuser ccount. For more informtion out supported rowsers, see Prefce on pge 4. When you re redy to strt the Cisco UCSPM v2 Migrtion Wizrd, open the following URL in we rowser. Replce UCS-PM-Mster with the IP ddress, hostnme, or fully-qulified domin nme of your version 2.0 virtul mchine: When prompted, provide the usernme nd pssword of the root or ccuser ccount. Setup phse The Setup phse verifies tht your Cisco UCS Performnce Mnger 2.0 system is fully instlled nd redy to perform migrtion. If necessry, the Cisco UCSPM v2 Migrtion Wizrd instlls required tools nd initilizes the migrtion services. The following list descries the steps of the Setup phse, in order: Checking Control Center version Migrtion processing requires Control Center version 1.1. Erlier versions re not supported. Checking numer of deployed pplictions Control Center supports multiple pplictions. However, migrtion processing stops if the numer of pplictions deployed in Control Center is greter thn one. Together, this step nd the next step ensure tht the correct dtses re populted during import. Getting nme of deployed ppliction The supported ppliction is ucspm. Together, this step nd the previous step ensure tht the correct dtses re populted during import. If you experience n error in the Setup phse, the most likely source is n incorrect or incomplete instlltion of your version 2.0 virtul mchine. For more informtion out instlling Cisco UCS Performnce Mnger version 2.0, refer to the Cisco UCS Performnce Mnger Instlltion Guide. Vlidtion phse The Vlidtion phse identifies the export file, unpcks it, nd exmines its contents. The time to complete this phse vries, depending on the size of the export file. Finding nd mounting IMPORT4 disk This step verifies tht the virtul disk ttched in the previous procedure is ville for use during the migrtion process. Verifying initiliztion hs een run The initiliztion script ensures tht the Imp4MriDB nd Imp4OpenTSDB services re strted, nd tht their worker demons re redy to egin processing. The services do not include seprte dtses, just worker demons specilized for importing content from version 1.1.x system. Run initiliztion If the previous step revels tht initiliztion hs not run, this step runs it. 12 Decemer 2015

13 Importing dt into your 2.0 system Verifying export file loction This step verifies tht the pth discovered in the previous step is vlid. Confirming the export file is vlid This step verifies tht the pth discovered previously is n rchive file (tr), nd tht it contins suset of the expected contents. Reviewing disk spce requirements The vlidtion script clcultes the mount of free spce tht is ville on the prtition where the export file is locted, nd reports n error if the mount of free spce is less thn 3x the size of the export file. Discovering the contents of the export file This step extrcts the contents of the export file, which includes the following items: A file listing of ll of the devices nd components monitored y the version 1.1.x system. A copy of your Cisco UCS Performnce Mnger license file. The unique identifier of your version 1.1.x model dtse. The ckup file of your version 1.1.x system, nd file contining the md5 hsh of the ckup file. The ckup file is creted when you run the export4 script on the 1.1.x system. This step cretes n md5 hsh of the ckup file, nd then compres it with the hsh pckged in the export file, to ensure the file ws not corrupted since its cretion In ddition, the compressed contents of the ckup file re extrcted nd written to disk. Note If the compressed contents re corrupted, or if the mount of free spce is indequte, this step fils. Return to your version 1.1.x system nd crete new export file. Vlidtion discovered the following ojects This step lists the contents of the ckup file tht ws unpcked in the previous step. A ckup file contins the first three items, nd my include the fourth item: Model dt Model dt descries the reltionships mong the devices nd components virtul mchines, controllers, interfces, disks, power supplies, ldes, nd so on in dt center environment. Cisco UCS Performnce Mnger cretes or updtes model dt t regulr intervls. Migrting this dt popultes the model dtse of your version 2.0 system with the ltest informtion out your environment, nd provides context for the event dt. ZenPcks A ZenPck modifies or extends the se of Cisco UCS Performnce Mnger. Migrting nd updting ZenPcks ensures tht the correct device clsses re included in your version 2.0 system. Event dt An event is the Cisco UCS Performnce Mnger representtion of n importnt occurence in dt center environment. Events re generted y Cisco UCS Performnce Mnger, such s when threshold is exceeded, or y externl progrms, such s syslog messges or SNMP trps. Migrting this dt mintins the history of device-specific issues. Performnce dt Performnce dt contins ech dt point tht hs een collected over the pst 12 months, for ech device on your version 2.0 system. The dt is exported s copy of ech device's RRD file. Migrting this dt is optionl. If you experience errors in the Vlidtion phse, the most likely solution is to crete new export file on your version 1.1.x system. Decemer

Note When migrtion is finished, you my detch the virtul disk used for export dt, nd discrd its contents. For more informtion, see Removing virtul disk on pge 19. Vlidting your migrtion To vlidte your migrtion, log in to your Cisco UCS Performnce Mnger, version 2.0 rowser interfce nd perform the following checks: On the INFRASTRUCTURE t, review devices to determine whether ny re missing. On the INFRASTRUCTURE t, select devices rndomly nd review the mount of history present in their performnce grphs. On the EVENTS t, disply the Events Archive pge. If the rchive is empty, the migrtion did not succeed. To repet n export-import cycle, you must instll your version 2.0 system gin. For more informtion, refer to the Cisco UCS Performnce Mnger Instlltion Guide. Removing migrtion softwre This procedure removes the ZenPcks.zenoss.Import4 ZenPck from Cisco UCS Performnce Mnger, nd removes the Imp4MriDB nd Imp4OpenTSDB services from Control Center. 1 Log in to the Control Center rowser interfce. 2 In the Applictions tle, click the nme of the ppliction to modify. The nme to click is ucspm. 3 Stop the Imp4MriDB nd Imp4OpenTSDB services. Scroll down to the Services tle, nd then locte the Imp4MriDB nd Imp4OpenTSDB services. Decemer

16 Cisco UCS Performnce Mnger Migrtion Guide The services re locted in the Infrstructure hierrchy. In the Actions column, click the Stop control of the Imp4MriDB nd Imp4OpenTSDB services. Stopped services hve grey circle icon in the Instnces column. 4 Stop the services in the Zenoss hierrchy, nd then verify tht the services re stopped. c In the Services tle, scroll down to Zenoss. In the Actions column, click the Stop control of the Zenoss hierrchy. In the Service column, click Zenoss, nd then scroll down. Stopped services hve grey circle icon in the Instnces column. 5 Crete snpshot. Log in to the Control Center mster host s root or ccuser. Crete snpshot. serviced service snpshot ucspm The serviced commnd returns the ID of the new snpshot on completion. 6 Restrt the zeneventserver nd Zope services. To restrt the services with the CLI, enter the following commnd for ech child service. Replce Nme with the nme of the service to strt: serviced service strt Nme To restrt the services with the rowser interfce, perform the following susteps: c d e Click the Zenoss service to expnd its child services. Scroll down to the zeneventserver service. In the Actions column, click the Strt control of the zeneventserver service. Scroll down to the Zope service. In the Actions column, click the Strt control of the Zope service. In the Services tle, the Filing icon ( red circle with n exclmtion point) in the Sttus column represents the cumultive result of one or more customized helth checks. To view the sttus of individul helth checks, move the pointer over the icon, which displys pop-up.
