1 IxLoad Common Internet File System (CIFS) The Common Internet File System (CIFS) is a network protocol that enables resource sharing across a network. CIFS enables users to share files, directories, printers, and other locally-hosted resources. Also known as SMB (Server Message Block), CFIS is a NAS (network attached storage) protocol made popular by its use in Microsoft Windows. IxLoad delivers the industry s most scalable and flexible CIFS/SMB client and server emulations for testing high-performance storage and WAN acceleration devices and data center networks. It provides ease of use with high-level commands that map to user operations, and flexibility with granular low-level commands that map to protocol messages in order to emulate various OS behaviors. In conjunction with Ixia s PerfectStorm platform, IxLoad CIFS delivers ahighly scalable throughput and I/O transactions per second enabling users to replace racks of servers used in simulating multiple clients. IxLoad is used to: Key Features CIFS client and server emulation Compliant with SMB 1.0, 2.0/2.1, and 3.0 dialect Support for NTLM, NTLMv2, and Kerberos authentication High-level commands designed to deliver ease of use by emulating user-level actions such as copy, delete, move, rename, read, and write files Low-level atomic commands for complete flexibility to emulate various OS behaviors by providing commands that match the specification Byte-by-byte data integrity validation Per-command transactional latency measurements Scalable file system simulation on the sever side Complete integration with the Random Data Generation engine to validate the caching mechanisms in WAN optimization devices Unique Random number generation support. DEC-RPC support in SMB2 SMB2 and SMB3.0 signing. SMB3.0 encryption Benchmark the performance and capacity of network attached storage (NAS) devices Measure the performance of WAN acceleration devices that optimize CIFS operations Determine file server session capacity while performing specific CIFS operations Measure peak system throughput and transaction latency Validate that data integrity is maintained under high load conditions Agoura Road Calabasas, CA USA Tel Document No.: Rev H August Page 1
