3 Electrical Class: RE FSR Refrigeration Mechanic Class Type: Class Code: Description: Scope: EL FSR RE Field Safety Representative, Class RE, Refrigeration Mechanic Within the scope of this certificate an individual may: Act as Field Safety Representative and Perform regulated electrical work on electrical equipment within the scope of the following certificates: ITA Refrigeration Mechanic Trade Certificate of Qualification, issued under the BC Industry Training Authority Act: Refrigeration Mechanic means a person who fabricates, installs, alters, repairs/services any system used for cooling and/or heating (i.e., heat pumps) in closed systems that contain a refrigeration or a brine and thermoelectric cooling. Includes piping, controls and electrical work usually performed by a journeyperson. Field Safety Representative, Certificate of Qualification Class RE, Refrigeration Mechanic as follows: All wiring is restricted to circuits for the following regulated products; electrical wiring for refrigeration equipment, air-conditioning units, heat pumps and chillers. In order to provide a supply of power to the noted electrical equipment, this scope includes branch circuit wiring from existing enclosures containing overcurrent devices. Wiring is restricted to a maximum of 750 volts. Electrical work on Fire Alarm Systems or in Hazardous Locations is excluded. Prerequisites: Provide acceptable proof of relevant training and work experience (originals are to be presented to staff who will make, date and sign verified true copies) of the following: B.C. Certificate of Qualification in the Trade of Refrigeration Mechanic, or B.C. Exemption Permit in the Trade of Refrigeration Mechanic (REX), or Canadian Interprovincial Standards Qualification IPSE Certificate in the trade of Refrigeration Mechanic (Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Mechanic), or Canadian Interprovincial Standards Qualification IPSE Certificate in the trade of Electrical. Pay the required fee and Pass the Class RE certificate 2 hour examination Area of study: Applicable items from the Reference Material List and the following sections of the B.C. Electrical Code Regulation 0, 2, 4, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, (ammonia), 26, 28, 62. 3
4 BC SAFETY AUTHORITY ELECTRICAL SAFETY PROGRAM ELECTRICAL EXAMINATION REFERENCE MATERIAL ELECTRICAL FIELD SAFETY REPRESENTATIVE (FSR), CERTIFICATE OF QUALIFICATION (C of Q) ALL CLASSES Electrical examinations will be based on the latest Act and pursuant regulations. As part of the regulatory changes, inclusion of applicable safety standards is being emphasized. Examinees should have knowledge of the reference material and applicable standards required within the scope of the certificate applied for. Information about any class of examination should be directed to your local BC Safety Authority office. Examinations are open book; examinee must provide their own reference materials for writing the examination. The Canadian Electrical Code Handbook and Pocket Reference are not allowed. Pages with markings in reference material such as formula and examples or calculations are to be removed before exam date. Cross referencing notes are acceptable. Material will be checked before & after exam. No other reference materials except as noted in the reference material list for the specific examination may be used. ELECTRICAL REFERENCE MATERIAL LIST: For examinations in all electrical classes, you will be required to provide the current edition of the following: 1. Safety Standards Act [S.B.C., 2003, Ch. 39] 2. Safety Standards General Regulation, B.C. Reg. 105/ Electrical Safety Regulation, B.C. Reg. 100/ B.C. Electrical Code Regulation 4. a. The 2009 Canadian Electrical Code, Part I, 21 st Edition C , 4. b. Latest Errata to CSA Standard C22.1-0X-CEC [see attachment.]) 4. c. Deemed amendments for the purposes of adopting Canadian Electrical Code. (See Electrical Safety Regulation, Section 20 and the Schedule.) 5. BC Safety Authority, Fee Schedule 6. BC Safety Authority, Electrical Information Bulletins 7. BC Safety Authority, Electrical Directives Notes: Legislative documents (Acts and Regulations) are available on the BC Safety Authority web site: Electrical Fee Schedule, Bulletins, and Directives are available on the BC Safety Authority web site at They are not available from Crown Publications. Legislative documents (Acts & Regulations) and the Canadian Electrical Code are available from: Crown Publications Inc., (250) , 106 Ontario Street, Victoria, BC V8V 1M9 Website: Copies of the Canadian Electrical Code are available from Canadian Standards Association, and various electrical wholesalers. 4
5 INSTRUCTIONS FOR EXAM CANDIDATES Please review prior to writing exam. 1. You must provide photo identification to the exam invigilator. 2. The time limit for this examination varies depending on exam written. Be sure you are attempting the correct examination paper. 3. Only authorized reference material are permitted in the exam room: Safety Standards Act, General and Electrical Safety Regulations; BC Electrical Code Regulation, (Canadian Electrical Code, BC Amendments and CSA Errata), BCSA Bulletins, BCSA Directives and BCSA Fee Schedule, and other listed Standards. The Canadian Electrical Code Handbook ( an explanation of the rules ) and the Canadian Electrical Code Pocket Reference are NOT allowed. Pages with markings in reference material such as formula and examples or calculations are to be removed. Cross reference notes are acceptable. No other reference materials except as noted in the reference material list for the specific examination may be used. 4. Only non-programmable calculators are permitted in the exam room. Calculators incorporating tapes or any form of pre-programmable recording devices are not allowed. 5. Items that will not be permitted into the examination room: Notes Scrap papers, briefcases or similar items, backpacks, cellular telephones, lap tops, note pads, palm held personal digital assistants or programmable recording devices or similar items are not allowed in the exam room. 6. Do not communicate with other examinees. All questions must be directed to the invigilator. 7. All answers must be marked in pen with an X on the answer sheet provided. 8. Incorrect answers will not receive a penalty. A minimum mark of 70% is required to pass 9. Calculated answers to questions have been rounded off. 10. At the end of the examination, You must wait to be signed out. The complete examination, answer sheet and all working papers (whether used or not) must be returned to the invigilator before leaving. Count the numbered sheets issued and ensure that all sheets are returned. The invigilator will check reference material to ensure notes from the examination have not been added. Material so marked will be photocopied, attached to the returning exam package and may invalidate the examination. 11. Contravention of any instruction or rule may result in failure/disqualification. 12. Results of the examination will be mailed to you in three to four weeks. No results will be given by telephone and the examiner will not review graded examinations with the examinee. 13. Invigilator and examinee to complete information requested on answer sheet and all working calculation sheets. 5
