1 Overview LINX MATRIX SWITCHERS FIRMWARE UPDATE INSTRUCTIONS FIRMWARE VERSION Due to the omplex nture of this updte, plese fmilirize yourself with these instrutions nd then ontt RGB Spetrum Tehnil Support , option 1) efore performing the updte. To instll ny version prior to , or updte version erlier thn 2.0, you must ontt RGB Spetrum for ssistne. For ll updtes, interled soures should e disonneted from the Linx Swither. For ll updtes, DVI nd HDMI soures onneted to the Linx Swither should e powered down. For updtes from ny version erlier thn 4.1, ll inputs to nd outputs from the Linx Swither should e disonneted or disled efore performing the updte. If disonnetion is not fesile, ll upstrem nd downstrem devies must e fully powered-down. Overview Performing the firmwre updte vi the seril port is preferle to using the Ethernet port, euse the Linx will ontinue to ommunite its sttus even through system reset. (This, however, ssumes tht the seril port ud rte is 9600 ps. Refer to Step 1, Set Seril Port Bud Rte to 9600 ps (if using Seril Port Connetion) for more informtion.) Although Telnet my e used to enter ommnds, Ethernet onnetions re lost when the Linx resets nd require new log-in fter eh ourrene, nd therefore nnot provide ontinuous sttus updtes, inluding when reset yle hs ompleted. The seril port method tells you when n updte ommnd or system reset hs ompleted y the return of the prompt (>) on the sreen of the ontrol PC. With Telnet, one the reset strts, the Telnet onnetion is lost. To prevent premture re-login to the Linx whih ould interfere with the updte proess, the reommended wit time is pproximtely 30 minutes for the updte ommnd. Determining the Current Firmwre Version On Linx 800, 900 or 1000, rotte the front-pnel ontrol kno until the urrently-instlled firmwre version ppers on the front-pnel disply. On Linx 1600, 1700, 1800, 3200, 3300 or 3400, push the SYS utton nd then rotte the ontrol kno to disply the firmwre version. Version Linx Mtrix Swithers Firmwre Updte Instrutions 1

2 Updting to Version RGB Updting to Version To perform the firmwre updte, follow these steps: 1. Set Seril Port Bud Rte to 9600 ps (if using Seril Port Connetion) 2. Export Settings 3. Downlod Exported Settings from the Linx Swither to PC 4. Uplod Firmwre to the Linx Swither 5. Instll Firmwre 6. Updte the Boot Code of the I/O Crds 7. Updte Firmwre Agin 8. Uplod Settings From PC nd Import Settings Bk to Linx 9. Reset the Linx Swither 1. Set Seril Port Bud Rte to 9600 ps (if using Seril Port Connetion) During the firmwre updte, ll Linx Swither settings (exept for IP network settings) reset to ftory-defult vlues. As result, the seril port ud rte resets to 9600 ps. If you pln to use the Linx Swither seril port to perform the firmwre updte nd monitor its progress, nd re urrently using ud rte other thn the defult setting, hnge the ud rte to 9600 ps oth t the swither nd in your terminl emultion progrm settings. This will ensure uninterrupted ommunition etween the Linx Swither nd your terminl emultion progrm throughout the updte proess. To hnge the Linx Swither ud rte from the ommnd line, use the ommnd ud To hnge it from the We Control Pnel (WCP), lik the System Info t nd hoose 9600 from the Bud Rte drop-down list. Then, use your terminl emultion progrm to estlish seril onnetion with the swither t 9600 ps. 2. Export Settings It is highly reommended tht ll system settings e sved nd downloded to PC prior to eginning the updte proedure. Note In firmwre versions nd lter, the EDID list now hs three ftory defult settings. These re stored in the first three elements of the EDID list nd nnot e overwritten. Before exporting your settings in preprtion for the updte, move ny existing EDID settings to Slots 4 nd ove. Use seril or Telnet onnetion to export settings from the Linx Swither y exeuting the following ommnd: exportsettings ll [file_nme.txt] Version Linx Mtrix Swithers Firmwre Updte Instrutions 2

3 This retes file in the FTP folder of the Linx Swither ontining opy of the existing settings. If you do not speify file nme, it will e nmed export.txt. Tip To export ll settings to file lled export.txt, use the ommnd y itself with no rguments. Tht is, these three ommnds re equivlent: exportsettings exportsettings ll exportsettings ll export.txt Files my e downloded from nd uploded to the Linx using File Trnsfer Protool (FTP) vi onnetion through the Ethernet port. Files tht my e uploded to the Linx Swither inlude previously-sved system settings, new firmwre, presets, nd EDID informtion. The FTP lient must e in inry mode to uplod firmwre. The mode does not hve to e set when trnsferring files using Windows Explorer. In the steps tht follow, n FTP session is illustrted using Windows Explorer (strt My Computer). While the proedure is similr with other operting systems or FTP lient pplitions, the pperne of the individul windows my vry. 3. Downlod Exported Settings from the Linx Swither to PC Connet PC to the Ethernet port of the Linx Swither to trnsfer files. Open Windows Explorer. In the ddress r, enter the FTP ommnd: ftp://rg:spetrum@nnn.nnn.nnn.nnn where nnn.nnn.nnn.nnn is the IP ddress of the Linx Swither; rg:spetrum is the user nme nd pssword. Uplod Firmwre to the Linx Swither Do not interrupt power to the unit during the firmwre updte. Delete ny exported or sved files in the Linx FTP uffer efore uploding ny firmwre files. System files user.log nd.profiles, if present, do not need to e deleted. The FTP lient must e in inry mode to uplod firmwre. 5 Selet the firmwre nd drg it to the Linx FTP diretory. Copy progress is displyed. Instll Firmwre From the seril port ommnd line, exeute the UFW ommnd. For seril port ontrol, press Enter to disply ommnd prompt (>) when this messge ppers: CARD CONFIG REPLIES RETURNED FROM ALL I/O CARDS(1) For Telnet opertion, llow pproximtely 30 minutes to for the system to omplete the updte nd reoot. Then, press Enter to disply ommnd prompt (>). Issue the SYStemINFO (SYSINFO) ommnd to verify tht the orret firmwre version is displyed. Figure 5 shows SYStemINFO report exmple. 7 6. Updte the Boot Code of the I/O Crds Before updting oot ode, ny devie tht provides pin power to the Linx Swither should e disled. To do this, disonnet or power down the devie. Note If ll input nd output rds lredy hve oot ode version x.13, skip to Step 8, Uplod Settings From PC nd Import Settings Bk to Linx. After system reoots, exeute the ommnd: UBT ALL ALL This ommnd updtes the oot ode on ll input nd output rds. When this proess ompletes, the following messge ppers on the onsole: READY TO RELOAD STANDARD I/O CARDS FIRMWARE When it does, press Enter to disply ommnd prompt (>). 7. Updte Firmwre Agin Repet Steps 5, 5, nd 5 ove. Verify tht the orret firmwre version is displyed nd tht ll input nd output rds hve oot ode version x Uplod Settings From PC nd Import Settings Bk to Linx d Use the proedure in Uplod Firmwre to the Linx Swither to initite rowsersed FTP session. Uplod the system settings file tht you reted in Step 2 nd downloded in Step 3 to the Linx Swither. Using seril or Telnet onnetion, import the system settings file y exeuting the ommnd: importsettings [file_nme].txt The old settings re now ville on the Linx Swither. 9.
