Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following: HO2S/O2S (9F472) HO2S/O2S (9G444) harness circuits: HO2S,, VPWR, and SIGRTN powertrain control module ( PCM) (12A650)

3 Page 3 of 11 Are DTCs P0030, P0031, P0032, P0036, P0037, P0038, P0040, P0041, P0053, P0054, P0059, P0060, P0130, P0131, P0132, P0133, P0134, P0135, P0136, P0137, P0138, P0139, P013A, P013B, P013C, P013E, P0140, P0141, P014A, P0152, P0153, P0155, P0157, P0158, P0159, P0161, P016A, P1127, P2297, P2A01, or P2A04 present? For DTCs P0040 or P0041, Go to DW2. For DTCs P0133, P0134, P013B, P0140, P0153 or P2297, Go to DW3. For DTC P1127, Go to DW18. For all others, Go to DW5. For all others, GO to Section 4, Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Charts and Descriptions. DW2 : KOER DTCs P0040 and P0041: CROSSED SENSOR WIRES Check the vehicle repair history Verify the HO2S connectors are connected to the correct engine bank Is a concern present? Unable to duplicate or identify the concern at this time. GO to Pinpoint Test Z. DW3 : CARRY OUT THE KOER SELF-TEST Engine at normal operating temperature. Carry out the PCM self-test. Are DTCs P0040, P0041 or P1127 present? Disregard the current DTC at this time. GO to DTC Index to address the next DTC. Go to DW4. DW4 : CHECK THE HO2S RESPONSE TEST RESULTS Access the diagnostic monitoring test results for the HO2S11 and HO2S21. Refer to Section 2, Diagnostic Monitoring Test Results Mode 6. Is the indicated value greater than the minimum threshold? Clear the PCM DTCs. Go to DW3. Go to DW5.

4 Page 4 of 11 Visually inspect for: pinched, shorted, and corroded wiring and pins oil or water contamination crossed sensor wires damaged HO2S sensor Is a concern present? For DTCs P0030, P0031, P0032, P0036, P0037, P0038, P0053, P0054, P0059, P0060, P0135, P0141, P0155 or P0161, Go to DW13. For DTCs P0132, P0138, P0152 or P0158, Go to DW19. For DTCs P0130, P0131, P0136, P0137, P0157 or P016A, Go to DW9. For DTCs P013A, P013C, P013E or P014A, Go to DW23. For all others, Go to DW6. DW6 : CHECK FOR UNMETERED AIR LEAKS NOTE: Fuel calculations can be affected by unmetered air leaks. Carefully inspect the following areas for potential air leaks: hoses connecting to the mass air flow ( MAF) sensor assembly hoses connecting to the throttle body intake manifold gasket leaks PCV system the vacuum lines are disconnected incorrectly seated engine oil dipstick, tube or oil fill cap Are any air leaks present? REPAIR the source of the air leak. RESET the keep alive memory ( KAM). REFER to Section 2, Resetting The Keep Alive Memory (KAM). Go to DW7.

5 Page 5 of 11 CHANGE the engine oil and oil filter. RESET the keep alive memory ( KAM). REFER to Section 2, Resetting The Keep Alive Memory (KAM). Go to DW8. DW8 : CHECK FOR EXHAUST SYSTEM AND FUEL SELECTION CONCERNS Inspect the exhaust system for the following: exhaust leaks at flanges and gaskets exhaust leaks at the HO2S aftermarket accessories and performance modifications Verify with the customer that flex fuel is not being used on a non-flex fuel vehicle Is a concern present? Go to DW9. DW9 : CHECK THE HO2S CIRCUIT(S) FOR AN OPEN IN THE HARNESS NOTE: Diagnose the suspect sensor indicated by the DTC NOTE: Verify the harness pins are in the correct location HO2S connector disconnected. Check the connector (both halves) for any water contamination. PCM connector disconnected. PCM Connector, Harness Side SIGRTN - Pin T26 SIGRTN Are the resistances less than 5 Ohm? Go to DW10.

6 Page 6 of 11 Ground Are the resistances greater than 10K ohms? Go to DW11. REPAIR the short circuit. DW11 : CHECK THE HO2S CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE Measure the voltage between: Ground Is any voltage present? REPAIR the short circuit. Go to DW10. DW12 : CHECK THE HO2S CIRCUIT CONTINUITY NOTE: HO2S is displayed as O2S on the scan tool. PCM connector connected. HO2S connector disconnected. Connect a 5 amp fused jumper wire between the following: Point A Point B VPWR Ignition ON, engine running. Access the PCM and monitor the PID Access the PCM and monitor the O2S11 (VOLT) PID. Access the PCM and monitor the O2S21 (VOLT) PID. Is the voltage greater than 1 V? REFER to the Workshop Manual Section , Engine or Section , Electronic Engine Controls. Go to DW26.

7 Page 7 of 11 DW13 : CHECK FOR VPWR IN THE HARNESS NOTE: Diagnose the suspect sensor indicated by the DTC HO2S connector disconnected. Measure the voltage between: VPWR SIGRTN Is the voltage greater than 10 V? Go to DW14. REPAIR the open circuit.check the fuses. DW14 : CHECK THE HO2S HEATER FOR SHORTS IN THE HARNESS PCM connector disconnected. Ground VPWR SIGRTN Is the resistance greater than 10 kohm? Go to DW15. REPAIR the short circuit.

DW16 : CHECK THE INTERNAL RESISTANCE OF THE HO2S HEATER HO2S Connector, Component Side HO2S Connector, Component Side VPWR Is the resistance between 3 Ohm - 30 Ohm? Go to DW17. REFER to the Workshop Manual Section , Electronic Engine Controls. RESET the keep alive memory ( KAM). REFER to Section 2, Resetting The Keep Alive Memory (KAM). DW17 : CHECK THE HO2S HEATER CIRCUIT FOR AN INTERNAL SHORT TO SIGRTN OR GND HO2S Connector, Component Side HO2S Connector, Component Side SIGRTN HO2S Connector, Component Side Ground Is the resistance greater than 10 kohm? Go to DW26. REFER to the Workshop Manual Section , Electronic Engine Controls. RESET the keep alive memory ( KAM). REFER to Section 2, Resetting The Keep Alive Memory (KAM).

9 Page 9 of 11 Access the PCM and monitor the HTR21 (MODE) PID. Is the PID state ON? CARRY OUT the KOER self-test. RUN the engine until the PID indicates ON. CARRY OUT the KOER self-test. DW19 : CHECK THE HO2S SIGNAL LEVEL TOO HIGH NOTE: Diagnose the suspect sensor indicated by the DTC HO2S connector connected. Ignition ON, engine running. Access the PCM and monitor the PID Access the PCM and monitor the O2S11 (VOLT) PID. Access the PCM and monitor the O2S12 (VOLT) PID. Access the PCM and monitor the O2S21 (VOLT) PID. Access the PCM and monitor the O2S22 (VOLT) PID. Is the voltage less than 1.1 V? Go to DW20. Go to DW21. DW20 : CARRY OUT A THOROUGH WIGGLE TEST ON THE HO2S HARNESS Access the PCM and monitor the PID Access the PCM and monitor the O2S11 (VOLT) PID. Access the PCM and monitor the O2S12 (VOLT) PID. Access the PCM and monitor the O2S21 (VOLT) PID. Access the PCM and monitor the O2S22 (VOLT) PID. Carry out a thorough wiggle test on the HO2S harness. Does the voltage change during the wiggle test? GO to Pinpoint Test Z.

10 Page 10 of 11 Access the PCM and monitor the O2S11 (VOLT) PID. Access the PCM and monitor the O2S12 (VOLT) PID. Access the PCM and monitor the O2S21 (VOLT) PID. Access the PCM and monitor the O2S22 (VOLT) PID. Is the voltage less than 1.1 V? REFER to the Workshop Manual Section , Electronic Engine Controls. RESET the keep alive memory ( KAM). REFER to Section 2, Resetting The Keep Alive Memory (KAM). Go to DW22. DW22 : CHECK THE HO2S CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VPWR IN THE HARNESS PCM connector disconnected. Measure the voltage between: Ground Is any voltage present? REPAIR the short circuit. Go to DW26. DW23 : DTC P013A, P013C, P013E, P014A: CHECK FOR OTHER SELF-TEST DTCS Are any DTCs present other than P013A, P013C, P013E, or P014A? Disregard the current DTC at this time. GO to DTC Index to address the next DTC. Go to DW24.

11 Page 11 of 11 For DTCs P013A or P013C, REFER to the Workshop Manual Section , Electronic Engine Controls. RESET the keep alive memory ( KAM). REFER to Section 2, Resetting The Keep Alive Memory (KAM). For all others, Go to DW25. DW25 : CHECK FOR AN INTERMITTENT HO2S SIGNAL Access the PCM and monitor the O2S12 (VOLT) PID. Access the PCM and monitor the O2S22 (VOLT) PID. Wiggle, shake, and bend small sections of the wiring harness while working from the sensor to the PCM Is a concern present? REFER to the Workshop Manual Section , Electronic Engine Controls. RESET the keep alive memory ( KAM). REFER to Section 2, Resetting The Keep Alive Memory (KAM). DW26 : CHECK FOR CORRECT PCM OPERATION Disconnect all the PCM connectors. Visually inspect for: pushed out pins corrosion Connect all the PCM connectors and make sure they seat correctly. Carry out the PCM self-test. Verify the concern is still present. Is the concern still present? INSTALL a new PCM. REFER to Section 2, Flash Electrically Erasable Programmable Read Only Memory (EEPROM), Programming the VID Block for a Replacement PCM. The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
