1 Introduction This document describes the stages for integrating EATON Pulsar UPSs with the administration tool "Insight Manager Version" 7.0 sp1 and sp2. 2 Installation and configuration procedure To be integrated with Insight Manager 7 (IM7), a few operations are necessary within the IM7 platform and EATON SNMP cards and agents. 2.1 IM7 platform configuration: These operations must be carried out directly on the server that hosts IM7 by using the script files supplied by EATON. Execute the EATON package that will extract all files. These files have to be extracted into the same directory under the drive on which IM7 is installed. Run the!imconfigall.bat file. Follow the instructions on the screen. During the procedure, you will be asked for the complete IM7 installation path: For sp1 "<System drive>:\program Files\COMPAQ\Compaq Insight Manager 7 SP1". For sp2 "< System drive>:\program Files\HP\Insight Manager 7 SP2". WARNING: the script and all necessary files extracted from the package must be in the same directory under IM7 installation drive. The script file will automatically perform the following operations: Saving and compiling the MIBs: In order to recognize events and alarms from the EATON equipment, the MGE MIB and the IETF MIB (standard MIB for managing UPSs) are saved and compiled within your Insight Manager (IM7) platform. Configuring the MIB Traps: By default, the SNMP traps of the MGE MIB and the IETF MIB appear in the Unknown section and their severity level is "INFORMATIONNAL". The script moves the Traps in the UPS category. It configures a default severity level for the Traps to distinguish the faults amongst the normal information sent by the UPS. You also can manually modify the Traps configuration using the procedure described in the appendix section. Declaring EATON equipment in IM7: For each EATON SNMP agent or card to be automatically recognized as being EATON equipment in IM7, the different equipment categories making up the EATON offer must be declared. Otherwise, the EATON detected during "Auto-Discovery" will appear as unknown devices. NOTE: The first operation and the second one can be carried out manually (see appendix section). HP Insight Manager 7 Integration User s Guide XU / AG Page 3/13

2.2 Configuration of the EATON SNMP cards and agents: Each EATON SNMP card or agent must be configured such as the SNMP alarms (Traps) can be sent to your IM7 platform. To do this, the machine that hosts the IM7 must be displayed in the managers table of each SNMP card and agent in order to transmit the Traps. Manual procedure You can use the Card Web Interface (Notified Applications) Automatic procedure (legacy cards 66074, ) Run the SetSNMPManager.bat script file and follow the instructions on the screen. WARNING: the script and all necessary files extracted from the package must be in the same directory under IM7 installation drive. During the procedure, you will be asked for: the IP address of your SNMP card or agent, the IP address of the machine that hosts the IM7, the read/write community name for the agent ("public" by default if not specified), the community name for the Trap receiver ("public" by default if not specified). Repeat these steps for each SNMP card or agent. Manual procedure (legacy cards 66074, ) You can also use a MIB explorer to configure the SNMP cards and agents. However, it is preferable to use the script file as these operations require an in-depth knowledge of the SNMP protocol and also have a good understanding of our products. Configuration example for manager number X: OID number X X X X X X X X X Designation / Value Manager number = X. Device number = 0. Manager type = 9 (other). Protocol level = 4 (snmpv1). Manager description = e.g. "IM station" Manager IP address = YYY.YYY.YYY.YYY format. Community name = e.g. "public" Severity level = e.g. 2 Acknowledgement type = 2 (eatonnoack). 5 3 Operation 3.1 Automatic recognition of EATON UPSs (Auto-Discovery) To do this, connect to your IM7 agent using a web browser and identify yourself. Click on the Settings icon. Click on the Discovery section, then on Automatic discovery. Validate the "discovery" filter and select Other and Unknown device types. Uncheck the option HP and Compaq Manageable Devices Only. Figure 1: "Auto-Discovery" filter option Validate the protocol options IP range pinging and SNMP Trap Auto-Discovery. Add the IP address ranges of your EATON equipment. Save and run Auto-Discovery. IM7 is able to recognize equipment with SNMP and HTTP protocols. Once Auto-Discovery has finished, go to the complete device list in the Device Queries section. The detected EATON SNMP equipment must appear in the list with the product name EATON. The name of each detected device corresponds to its IP address. All you need to do is give each device a more explicit name. To do this, go to Settings >> Manual Discovery >> Edit Device section. Note: In the device list, you can create a query to display only EATON. To do this, refer to the "Displaying EATON" part. HP Insight Manager 7 Integration User s Guide XU / AG Page 5/13

For Network Management Proxy / XML-Agent, the address " Adress proxy>/mgeups /default.htm" giving access to the UPS property pages cannot be configured with IM7. (**) Not recognized as EATON. Na: not applicable. 3.2 Displaying EATON UPS To display the EATON in a single view, all you have to do is create an appropriate query. Go to the Devices >> All Queries >> Device >> All section. In the Public Queries section, click on the link New in the Devices by Type part. Give a name to your query (e.g. EATON). In the Inclusion" tab, check the box Device(s) by product name. Then, in the query description, select the list of devices whose name starts with EATON or MGE. Save your query. Once the query is configured, all EATON using the SNMP protocol can be displayed with a single click. HP Insight Manager 7 Integration User s Guide XU / AG Page 6/13

Figure 2: Query for displaying EATON UPSs 3.3 Supervision of EATON equipment with IM7 For each EATON, you are able to access a certain amount of information depending on the type of equipment you have. For cards with an on-board web server, for example, you are able to access the properties of your UPS with a simple click (cf. Figure 5). Typically, the device status is expressed through an icon: Normal operation. Critical fault. Major fault. Minor fault. No information about the device status. This state corresponds to HTTP type equipment, which does not support the SNMP protocol (e.g. XML- Web card or proxy agent XML-@gent). Whenever you zoom on a device, you will find the name, the IP address, as well as information for locating the device. You will find the name of the UPS in the description field. You can also access the properties of your UPS (Link UPS Properties or Web Server: Default Home Page) using a web browser if your equipment allows it. WARNING: To do this, the Use the Device IP Address option must be validated in the Device Link Configuration part of the safety options. Configuration of EATON SNMP cards/agents). To do this, click on the link All Events Associated with this Device. By default, the alarms do not have a severity level (normal information, critical/major/minor fault). They all appear as information type alarms. To modify this behavior, go to the "Configuration of the EATON MIB Traps" section. Figure 6: Displaying the Traps in IM7. HP Insight Manager 7 Integration User s Guide XU / AG Page 9/13

4 Uninstallation procedure These operations must be carried out directly on the server that hosts IM7 by using the script files supplied by EATON. Run the!uninstall.bat file. The script file will perform the following operations: Removing EATON equipment in IM7. Removing Traps configuration. Removing the MGE and IETF MIBs.
