Objective To interface with analog & digital inputs & outputs. When you have completed this exercise, you will be able to: Configure and read analog input data Configure and write analog output data Configure and read digital input data Configure and write digital output data 1. Connect the USB-6009 to the PC using the USB cable or use the simulated USB-6009 device. 2. Open NI LabVIEW. 3. Open a new vi and tile the front panel and block diagram windows. 4. Control the Application with a While Loop Select Express»Exec Control»While Loop Place the While Loop on the Block Diagram Move the cursor to the loop upper left corner, then click & hold left mouse button Move the mouse to the lower right corner, then release the left button Add a Loop Counter Display 5. Configure an Analog Input application using the DAQ Assistant: Place an analog input module in the while loop Express»Input»DAQ Assistant Select Acquire Signals - selects type of signal as input Select Analog Input - selects input type Select Voltage - selects type of analog input Select ai0 to Ai2- adds three analog input physical channels Click Finish Robert W Harrison 2017 Page 1 04/27/17
6. Configure the Analog Input Channels Set Acquisition Mode to 1 Sample (On Demand) - (not Continuous) Set the Input Signal Range: Max = 10 Min = 0 Robert W Harrison 2017 Page 2 04/27/17
7. Place a chart on the front Panel (Controls»Express»Graph Indicators»Chart) and conntct it to the data terminal of the DAQ Assist on the block diagram. 8. Configure the chart peoperties Scales Set y-axis Autoscale = Off, Min = 0 and Max = Select an empty array container Controls»Modern»Array, Matrix, Cluster»Array as shown below 10. Add Digital Inputs, place an array container in the lower part of the Front Panel. 11. Create an array of controls by simply inserting them into the array. Right-click on the block diagram and select an LED light from Express»LEDs»Round LED and drop it into the empty array. 12. Next we will increase the size of the array of Booleans so it contains six elements. To do this, click on the right side of the array container and drag it to the right until six LEDs are visible. Robert W Harrison 2017 Page 3 04/27/17
13. VERY IMPORTANT STEP- Click on the sixth LED to initialize the array size. 14. Next configure the hardware to recognize these LEDs and control one digital input per LED. Use the DAQ Assistant from the Express»Input»DAQ Assist and place on the block diagram. 15. In the DAQ Assistant select Acquire Signals»Digital Input»Line Input, then select the addresses of the digital inputs: Port0/Line0-Port0/Line4 and Port1/Line3. Click Finish. Then click OK to exit. Robert W Harrison 2017 Page 4 04/27/17
16. Wire the output of the DAQ Assistant to the Array input. 17. Switch to the Front Panel and click RUN to watch the LEDs on the Front Panel as switchs are changed on the simulator box. 18. Add Digital Outputs, place an array container in the lower part of the Front Panel. 19. Create an array of controls by simply inserting them into the array. Right-click on the block diagram and select an LED light from Express»Buttons»Rocker and drop it into the empty array. 20. Next we will increase the size of the array of Booleans so it contains six elements. To do this, click on the right side of the array container and drag it to the right until six switches are visible. 21. VERY IMPORTANT STEP- Click on the sixth Switch to initialize the array size. 22. Next configure the hardware to recognize these LEDs and control one digital input per LED. Use the DAQ Assistant from the Express»Output»DAQ Assist and place on the block diagram. 23. In the DAQ Assistant select Generate Signals»Digital Output»Line Output, then select the addresses of the digital outputs: Port0/Line5 - Port1/Line2. Robert W Harrison 2017 Page 5 04/27/17
24. Click OK at the following dialog: 25. Wire the output of the DAQ Assistant to the Array input. 26. Switch to the Front Panel and watch the LEDs on the Front Panel as switches are changed on the simulator box. 27. Add Analog Output, place an analog output module in the while loop beneath the Digital I/O interfaces Express»Output»DAQ Assistant. Robert W Harrison 2017 Page 6 04/27/17
28. To configure the Analog Output application after DAQ Assistant appears on the screen: Select Generate Signals - selects type of signal as output Select Analog Output - selects output type Select Voltage - selects type of analog output Select ao0 - adds one analog output channel Click Finish 29. Add a Dial to set the Analog Output value Express»Numeric Controls»Knob: Set name to AO Setting, Set the Min = 0, Max = 5 Add a Digital Display Connect to the Analog Output control 30. Here are the completed Front Panel and Block Diagram: Robert W Harrison 2017 Page 7 04/27/17
