6 About this Guide This guide describes how to deploy, configure and use the Veeam Endpoint Backup for LabTech. The document applies to version 1.0 and all subsequent versions until it is replaced with a new document. Intended Audience This document is designed for Managed Service Providers who use LabTech Remote Monitoring and Management (RMM) software to automate system management, and run Veeam Endpoint Backup FREE to protect their endpoints. This guide assumes that you are familiar with basic operations that can be performed in the LabTech Control Center.

7 About VEEAM Endpoint Backup For LabTech Veeam Endpoint Backup for LabTech is intended for Managed Service Providers who want to integrate their LabTech Remote Monitoring and Management platform with Veeam Endpoint Backup. Veeam Endpoint Backup for LabTech simplifies backup and recovery of Windows-based desktops and servers, and provides centralized management through the LabTech Control Center. The solution allows service providers to: Deploy and manage Veeam Endpoint Backup across numerous endpoints Backup files, disk volumes or entire computers from the LabTech Control Panel Perform remote bare-metal recovery of failed computers from the LabTech Control Panel Monitor and report on the backup state and data protection efficiency Track license usage for managed clients and locations

How It Works Veeam Endpoint Backup for LabTech relies on the native LabTech architecture. Remote endpoints are managed and monitored with the help of LabTech agents. The agents running on desktops and laptops enable backup, recovery and management tasks, as well as collect data from the hosting machines and communicate them to the LabTech server. Veeam Endpoint Backup for LabTech installed on the LabTech server provides centralized management for Veeam Endpoint Backup on remote computers, tracks license usage, obtains backup data from agents and translates it into the dashboards, dataviews, reports, alerts and tickets. 8

Discovery Veeam Endpoint Backup for LabTech automatically discovers agent-enabled computers running Veeam Endpoint Backup software. Discovered computers are distributed between two groups: Veeam Endpoint Backup FREE group includes computers with Veeam Endpoint Backup running in the free mode. This group serves as a container for endpoints that you can activate later on. Veeam Endpoint Backup group includes computers with Veeam Endpoint Backup that has been activated. For computers in this group, you can perform various Veeam Endpoint Backup management tasks, collect backup data, monitor the results and efficiency of backup jobs and create reports. The Veeam Endpoint Backup group has a number of Veeam Endpoint Backup for LabTech objects assigned to it by default, including scheduled scripts for collecting Veeam Endpoint Backup data and checking the software version, and a set of Veeam monitors. 9

Data Collection To collect Veeam Endpoint Backup data from remote endpoints, Veeam Endpoint Backup for LabTech uses the Collect Veeam Endpoint Backup data script. By default, this script is assigned to the Veeam Endpoint Backup computer group and scheduled to run twice a day. Data retrieved from remote endpoints is archived and sent to the LabTech server. On the LabTech server, data is unpacked and stored on the LabTech database. Veeam Endpoint Backup for LabTech uses the collected data for dashboards, dataviews and reports. For details on collecting Veeam Endpoint Backup data and customizing the script schedule, see Collecting Veeam Endpoint Backup Data. Veeam Endpoint Backup Management Tasks Veeam Endpoint Backup for LabTech enables a set of management tasks on Veeam Endpoint Backup. These tasks include installing, uninstalling and updating the Veeam Endpoint Backup software, configuring backup job and global settings, starting or stopping backup jobs. Management commands to Veeam Endpoint Backup are passed with the help of scripts that come with Veeam Endpoint Backup for LabTech. LabTech agents execute the scripts on remote endpoints and communicate the execution result back to the plug-in. For details on management tasks, see Managing Veeam Endpoint Backup. Alerting Veeam Endpoint Backup for LabTech includes a set of monitors to help you track the results of backup jobs, state of Veeam Endpoint Backup service and integration software. By default, the monitors are assigned to the Veeam Endpoint Backup computer group. LabTech agents on remote endpoints evaluate the monitor conditions, and send alert details to the the LabTech server if these conditions are true. Monitoring and Reporting Veeam Endpoint Backup for LabTech comes with a set of dashboards, dataviews and report templates for monitoring and reporting on the data protection status for managed endpoints. Veeam Endpoint Backup data for dashboards, dataviews and reports is obtained from endpoints as part of the data collection process. For details, see Monitoring Endpoint Backups and Reporting. 10

To prevent users from changing backup job settings, enable the read-only access mode for Veeam Endpoint Backup. For details, see Enabling Read-Only Access Mode.

Before You Begin Before you configure the backup job, check the following prerequisites: The target location where you plan to store backup files must have enough free space. [For Veeam Backup & Replication repository targets] You can store created backups in a backup repository only if the backup server runs Veeam Backup & Replication 8.0 Update 2 or later. [For Veeam Backup & Replication repository targets] If you plan to use a Veeam Backup & Replication repository as a target for backups, you must pre-configure user access permissions on this backup repository. To learn more, see Veeam Endpoint Backup User Guide, section Setting Up User Permissions on Backup Repositories. Backup has the following limitations: You cannot save the backup of entire computer on the local computer disk. Use an external hard drive or USB drive, network shared folder or backup repository as a target location. Veeam Endpoint Backup does not back up data to which symbolic links are targeted. It only backs up the path information that the symbolic links contain. After restore, identical symbolic links are created in the restore destination. 40

Step 1. Launch Configure Backup Wizard To launch the Configure Backup wizard: 1. In the LabTech Control Center, double-click a client, location or computer. 2. Open the Veeam Endpoint Backup Jobs tab. 3. Select the necessary endpoint in the list and click Configure. When you restore data from such backup, you will be able to recover the entire computer image as well as data on specific computer volumes: files, folders, application data and so on. Volume level backup select this option if you want to create a backup of specific computer volumes, for example, all volumes except the system one. When you restore data from such backup, you will be able to recover data on these volumes only: files, folders, application data and so on. With this option selected, you will pass to the Volumes step of the wizard. File level backup select this option if you want to create a backup of individual folders on your computer. With this option selected, you will pass to the Files step of the wizard. Tip: File-level backup is typically slower than volume-level backup. If you plan to back up all folders and files on a specific volume, it is recommended that you configure volume-level backup instead of file- level backup.

Step 3. Specify Volumes to Back Up The Volumes step of the wizard is available if you have chosen to create a volume-level backup. In the Objects to backup list, specify volumes that you want to include in the backup. In the field at the top, type a drive letter and click Add. Repeat this step for all volumes that you want to add to the backup. To remove a volume from the backup scope, select it in the Objects to backup list and click Remove. Note: 1. When you include a system volume in the backup, Veeam Endpoint Backup automatically includes the System Reserved/UEFI or other system partitions in the backup too. 2. 44 44 Step 4. Specify Folder to Back Up The Files step of the wizard is available if you have chosen to create a file-level backup. In the filelevel backup mode, you can create two types of backups: File-level backup that includes individual folders on your computer. Hybrid backup that contains individual folders and specific volumes of your computer. In the Objects to backup list, specify folders that you want to include in the backup: 1. In the field at the top, type a folder path and click Add. Repeat this step for all folders that you want to add to the backup. You can also specify a drive letter at this step. In this case, Veeam Endpoint Backup will add the whole volume to the backup. 2. Select the Operating system check box to include in the backup data pertaining to the OS installed on your computer. 3. Select the Personal files check box to include in the backup the user profile folder, including all user settings and data. Typically, the user profile data is located in the Users folder on the system disk, for example, C:\Users. To remove a folder from the backup scope, select it in the Objects to backup list and click Remove. Note: Veeam Endpoint Backup automatically adds to the list of exclusions the following Microsoft Windows objects for all computer users: temporary files folder, Recycle Bin, Microsoft Windows pagefile, hibernate file and VSS snapshot files from the System Volume Information folder.

Configuring Filters To include or exclude files of a specific type in/from the file-level backup, you can configure filters: 1. At the Files step of the wizard, click Advanced. 2. Specify include and exclude filters for files you want to back up: In the Include masks field, specify file names and/or masks for file types that you want to back up, for example, MyMovie.avi, *filename*, *.docx, *.mp3. Veeam Endpoint Backup will create a backup only for selected files. Other files will not be backed up. In the Exclude masks field, specify file names and/or masks for file types that you do not want to back up, for example, OldPhotos.rar, *.tmp, *.back. Veeam Endpoint Backup will back up all files except files of the specified type. 3. Click Add. 4. Repeat steps 2-3 for each mask that you want to add. You can use a combination of include and exclude masks. Note that exclude masks have a higher priority than include masks. For example, you can specify masks in the following way: Exclude mask: *movie* Include mask: *.avi Veeam Endpoint Backup will include in the backup all files of the AVI format that do not contain movie in their names. 45

Step 5. Select Backup Destination At the Destination step of the wizard, select a target location for the created backup. You can store backup files in one of the following locations: Local storage select this option if you want to save the backup on a removable storage device attached to the endpoint, or on a local drive of the endpoint. With this option selected, you will pass to the Local Storage step of the wizard. Shared folder select this option if you want to save the backup in a network shared folder. With this option selected, you will pass to the Shared Folder step of the wizard. Veeam Backup & Replication repository select this option if you want to save the backup on a backup repository managed by the Veeam backup server. With this option selected, you will pass to the Backup Server step of the wizard. It is strongly recommended that you store backups in the external location like USB storage device or shared network folder. You can also keep your backup files on a separate non-system local drive. Important! If you select to store the backup on a local folder included in the backup scope, Veeam Endpoint Backup will automatically exclude this folder from the backup. 46

Step 6. Specify Local Storage Settings The Local Storage step of the wizard is available if you have chosen to save the backup on a local drive of the endpoint. Specify local storage settings: 1. In the Local drive list, specify a path to the folder where backup files must be saved. If the folder does not exist, Veeam Endpoint Backup will create it during backup. Do not specify the root drive directory, like C:\ or D:\. 2. In the Keep restore points for the last <N> days when computer was used field, specify the number of days for which you want to store backup files in the target location. By default, Veeam Endpoint Backup keeps backup files for 14 days. After this period is over, Veeam Endpoint Backup will remove the earliest restore points from the backup chain. To learn more, see Veeam Endpoint Backup User Guide, section Backup Retention Policy. Important! USB storage devices formatted as FAT32 do not allow storing files larger than 4 GB in size. For this reason, it is recommended that you do not use such USB storage devices as a backup target. 47

Step 7. Specify Shared Folder Settings The Shared folder step of the wizard is available if you have chosen to save the backup in a network shared folder. Specify shared folder settings: 1. In the Shared folder field, type a UNC name of the network shared folder where you want to store backup files. Keep in mind that the UNC name always starts with two back slashes (\\). 2. If the network shared folder requires authentication, select the This share requires access credentials check box and specify a user name and password of the account that has access permissions on this shared folder. The user name must be specified in the DOMAIN\USERNAME format. To view the specified password, click and hold the eye icon on the right of the Password field If you do not select the This share requires access credentials check box, Veeam Endpoint Backup will connect to the shared folder using the NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM account of the endpoint where the product is installed. You can use this scenario if the endpoint is joined to the Active Directory domain. In this case, you can simply grant Full Control access on the shared folder and underlying file system to the computer account (DOMAIN\COMPUTERNAME$). 3. 48

In the Veeam backup server name or IP address field, specify a DNS name or IP address of the Veeam backup server. 2. Select the Specify your personal credentials check box. In the Username and Password fields, specify a user name and password of the account that has access to this backup repository. Permissions on the backup repository managed by the target Veeam backup server must be granted beforehand. To learn more, see Veeam Endpoint Backup User Guide, section Setting Up User Permissions on Backup Repositories. If you do not select the Specify your personal credentials check box, Veeam Endpoint Backup will connect to the backup repository using the NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM account of the computer where the product is installed. You can use this scenario if the endpoint is joined to the Active Directory domain. In this case, you can simply add the computer account (DOMAIN\COMPUTERNAME$) to an AD group and grant access rights on the backup repository to this group. Setting access permissions on the backup repository to Everyone is equal to granting access rights to the Everyone Microsoft Windows group (Anonymous users are excluded). If you have set such permissions on the backup repository, you can omit specifying credentials. However, this scenario is recommended for demo environments only. 3. In the Port field, specify a number of the port over which Veeam Endpoint Backup must communicate with the backup repository. By default, Veeam Endpoint Backup uses port

50 Important! If you specify a DNS name of the Veeam backup server, make sure that the Veeam backup server name is resolved into IPv4 address on the endpoint where Veeam Endpoint Backup is installed. The Veeam Backup Service in Veeam Backup & Replication listens on IPv4 addresses only. If the Veeam backup server name is resolved into IPv6 address, Veeam Endpoint Backup will fail to connect to the Veeam backup server.

Step 9. Specify Backup Repository The Backup Repository step of the wizard is available if you have chosen to save backup files on a Veeam Backup & Replication repository. Specify settings for the target backup repository: 4. In the Backup repository field, specify name of the backup repository where you want to store created backups. 5.
