3 License management in This chapter contains information regarding the basic concepts used in the context of the application licensing. In this section, you will also learn about the automatic renewal of the license and where to view information regarding the current license. About License Agreement for The End User License Agreement (EULA) is an agreement between natural or legal person lawfully in possession of a copy of and ZAO Kaspersky Lab. The EULA is included in each Kaspersky Lab application. It contains a detailed description of rights and usage restrictions. According to the EULA, when you purchase and install a Kaspersky Lab application, you get an unlimited right to own its copy. About License for License is a right to use and the related additional services offered by Kaspersky Lab or its partners. Each license is defined by its expiry date and a type. License term a period during which the additional services are offered: Technical support; Updating databases and application modules. The following license types are provided: 1. Trial 1 a free license with a limited validity period, for example, 30 days, offered to become familiar with. Trial license can only be used once and cannot be used after a commercial license! When the trial license period is over KSOS 2 will continue working in the limited mode (for example, Security Control becomes disabled, the Additional tools module and the functionality of such modules as Backup, Data Encryption, Password Manager will be significantly reduced). To continue using the application you should activate it with an activation code. The activation procedure will be described below. 2. Commercial a commercial license with a limited validity period (for example, one year), offered upon purchase of KSOS 2. One license can cover several computers. If a commercial license is activated, all application features and additional services (technical support, update of bases and application modules) are available. As soon as a commercial license expires, remains a full-featured application but performs its functions in the limited mode. For example, Security Control continues working, but the anti-virus databases and application modules are not updated, i.e. the program will disinfect infected objects/filter spam, but only using the databases that you had when the license expired. The Advanced Tools module stops functioning and the functionality of the modules Data Encryption and Password Manager is significantly reduced. Two weeks before the license expiration date, the application will notify you of this event so you can renew the license in advance. The procedure of a license renewal will be described below. 1 Technical support is provided only to users with commercial license for. 2 18

4 About activation code and key file for Activation code is the code supplied with a KSOS 2 commercial license. This code is required for activation of the application. The activation code represents a sequence of Latin characters and digits separated by hyphens into four groups of five symbols without spaces. For example, AA111-AA111-AA111-AA111. If you purchased a box version of the Kaspersky Lab product, the activation code can be found printed on the first page of the user manual left cover. If you have purchased Kaspersky Lab product via E-Store, the activation code will be sent to you via e- mail you have specified when making the order. The activation code which has never been activated does not have an expiry date. An unused activation code can be activated at any time, but the license will begin to expire on the day of initial activation. The ability of use KSOS 2 is determined by the presence of the key file. A key file is granted to you based on an activation code received when purchasing the application and grants the right to use it since the activation day. A key file contains license information: type, validity period, number of computers on which it spreads. Kaspersky Lab products can be activated with an activation code in case of established Internet connection. In this case the Configuration Wizard will connect to the Kaspersky Lab servers and send the activation code to the servers. If the activation code is verified, the wizard receives a key file which is automatically installed to the program. The activation process is complete and is accompanied by a window with the detailed information about the purchased license. If the activation code was not verified, the corresponding message is displayed on the screen. In this case contact the company where you purchased the license. If the number of activations with one activation code is exceeded a corresponding message will appear on the screen. The activation process will be terminated and the program will offer you to contact Kaspersky Lab Technical Support. If an activation error occurred and the key file was not installed, contact Technical support via My Account service from any computer with an Internet connection. In order to get a key file, give the following information in your request: Place where you purchased Kaspersky Lab product; 3 18

5 Information about the owner: surname, name; Exact purchase date; Full registration number of your license (this number is written on the registration card); Product activation code. When the key file is received, perform the following actions: 1. Unpack the received archive. 2. Open the main application window. 3. Select License in the lower part of the window. 4. In the window License Management click Activate the application with a new license. 5. In the Activation wizard window Activate commercial version and enter the activation code. 4 18

6 6. Press Next. 7. In the error window press OK. 8. In the Activation wizard click Browse. 5 18

7 9. Select the folder into which you have unpacked content of the received archive and saved the key file. 10. Double click the key file. 11. Click Next. 12. Make sure the application has been activated successfully. 13. Click Finish. 14. Close the main application window. You will also need Internet connection to activate trial version of the product. Without activation the program will work in limited functionality. For example, you will be able to update the program only once (further updates will not be performed), some other functionalities will be unavailable, for example, advanced tools, creating encrypted container and etc. How to purchase license after installation If you have installed KSOS 2 without a license, you can purchase one after installation: 1. Open the main application window 2. Click the Purchase license button in the bottom part of the window. The estore web page of Kaspersky Lab opens where you can purchase a license. About activation procedure for Activation is the procedure of activating a license that allows you to use a fully functional version of the application until the license expires. You can activate the commercial version of the program: 1. During the program installation if you have an activation code. 2. After the program installation if you have an activation code. Let us review these activation variants in more detail. Activation during installation process During the installation process the Activation Wizard is started which offers you to activate the program. 6 18

8 If you have not activated the application during installation, you can do so later. You will be reminded about the need to activate the application by messages appearing in the taskbar notification area. Let us review the steps of the Wizard in more detail. Step 1. Selection of the license type 2 Select the necessary variant (if you have selected Activate commercial license, enter the activation code in the corresponding field) and click Next. Step 2. Requesting for activation At the first step, the Wizard sends a request to the activation server to obtain permission for activation of the selected version of the application. If the request is sent successfully, the Wizard automatically proceeds to the next step. Step 3. Activation At this step, the Wizard connects with the activation server in order to finish the application activation after which the Wizard automatically proceeds to the next window. 2 Types of license are reviewed in the section About license for. 7 18

9 Step 4. Wizard completion 1. This window displays information on the activation results: type of license used and license expiry date. Click Next. 2. 10 3. Wait until the system analysis is complete. 4. Click Finish to close the Wizard. Activation after installation In order to activate the program after installation, do the following: 1. Open the License manager window. For this: Click the Activate link in the notification window of KSOS 2 appearing in the taskbar notification area. 9 18

11 OR Click the License link in the lower part of the main application window. In the License management window click the button Activate the application with a new license. OR Click the Fix it button in the upper part of the main application window

12 In the Protection status window on the Status tab click the Activate button In the activation wizard window enter the activation code in the corresponding field and click Next

13 After successful activation completion information about the license type and the expiry date will be shown in the wizard window. Activation peculiarities of Kaspersky Lab products Kaspersky Lab products can be activated by activation codes purchased in the region where the product will be used. The error may appear if you try to activate your application using an activation code in one region (country), but the activation code you use is intended for use in another region (country). For

14 example, you have bought KSOS 2 via E-Store in India, but you try to install and activate the application in the United Kingdom. In order to eliminate the problem, you need to install and activate your Kaspersky Lab product in the region (country), where you have bought the application. Viewing license information in In order to view the information about the currently installed license, do the following: 1. Open the main activation window. 2. In the bottom part of the main window click the License link to open the License manager window. In the License manager window you can start the activation process of the program, purchase a new license or renew your license. License renewal in If you do not want to leave your computer unprotected once the license expires, you can renew it for a new period before hand. You will receive an activation code that you should use to activate the application To renew a license, do the following: 1. Open the main application window 2. In the bottom part of the main window click the License link. The License manager window opens

15 3. In the window License manager click the Renew license button. 4. The Kaspersky Lab license renewal center web page opens where you can renew your license online, in the License Renewal Center, or offline, from the closet reseller. License manager window The upper section of the License manager window allows viewing the following information: 1. License type (commercial); 2. Number of hosts for the license (5 computers); 3. License validity period (357 days); 4. License number (e.g );

16 5. License status (Active). Clicking the button deletes the license in use. The lower section of the License manager window allows to select an action to perform over the license depending on its type and the current status: If a commercial license is installed on your computer, then the following options are available: 1. Renew license Once you click this link, you will be taken to a Kaspersky Lab page where you can renew your license either via E-Store or through the closest reseller

17 2. Activate the application with a new license Click upon this link starts the Activation Wizard and activates the program with a new commercial license. If a trial license is installed on your computer, then the following options are available: 1. Purchase license Once you click this link, you will be taken to a Kaspersky Lab page where you can renew your license either via E-Store or through the closest reseller

18 2. Activate the application with a commercial license Click upon this link starts the Activation Wizard and activates the program with a new commercial license. The following option may be available to you: Errors and feasible solutions

19 If an error occurred during the activation a notifying message with the error description and feasible solutions will be displayed on the screen.
