1 Press Release Sony Unveils New Range of 1920 x 1080 Full HD Handycam Camcorder Enhanced recording features include face detection technology, built-in zoom microphone for video shoot and 10.2 mega-pixel still image capture Hong Kong, February 1, 2008 Sony Corporation of Hong Kong Limited further expands its AVCHD Handycam camcorder range with four new models the HDR-SR12/E, HDR- SR11/E and HDR-SR10/E hard disk drive camcorder, and the HDR-UX20/E DVD model. Based on the AVCHD TM encoding technology, these four additions deliver 1920 x 1080 Full High-Definition (Full HD) recording for exceptional image clarity and detail. A significant breakthrough for the camcorder industry, the four new AVCHD camcorders incorporate the face detection technology for shooting both video and photos. This unique feature can identify up to eight faces in the camcorder s LCD frame, and automatically adjust exposure, focus and colour control. Additionally, the Full HD models from the new AVCHD Handycam line-up incorporate advanced imaging innovations from Sony s professional camcorders and high-end digital SLR cameras. The ClearVid CMOS sensor with Exmor -derived technology combines with the BIONZ Image Processing Engine and D-Ranger Optimizer to deliver up to 10.2 mega-pixel photo capture. It also enables high sensitivity and low noise for both movie and still image shooting. Building upon the popularity of Handycam camcorder, we are glad to expand our Handycam portfolio and introduce industry-leading features designed to maximise the creativity and enjoyment. In the HD era, picture quality always comes first. The new Full HD Handycam series allows users to enjoy easy shooting with high performance features for better-than-ever video quality, said Mr. Koichi Tsunematsu, Division Managing Director, Hong Kong Marketing Company, Sony Corporation of Hong Kong Limited. With Handycam consumers can capture the best in life anytime on video or still image with breathtaking HD quality at the touch of a button. Full 1920 x 1080 HD and Industry-Largest 120GB Hard Disk Drive The HDR-SR12/E, HDR-SR11/E, HDR-SR10/E and HDR-UX20/E feature 1920 x 1080i Full HD video recording, delivering the highest resolution available without sacrificing recording times. In the hard disk drive range of Handycam camcorder, the HDR-SR12/E incorporates an industry-largest built-in 120GB hard disk drive that can continuously record up to 48 hours of HD video or equivalent to 86 DVD discs, while the HDR-SR11/E (60GB) and HDR- SR10/E (40GB) can capture up to 22 hours and 15 hours of HD video respectively. Moreover, still images can be recorded at 10.2 megapixels (3680 x 2760 in 4:3 mode). 1

2 Face Detection for Videos The face detection technology featured in the HDR-SR12/E, HDR-SR11/E, HDR-SR10/E and HDR-UX20/E is made possible by the combination of BIONZ image processing engine and ClearVid CMOS sensor with Exmor. This feature adjusts the focus automatically to capture clear and sharp subject faces, enable auto colour control to correct skin colours as well as auto exposure to ensure the face is bright and clear even when there is backlighting. The quality of subject faces is further enhanced by the newly developed Bit Allocation. The camcorder allocates more encoding bits on the detected face area than other parts of the picture so that a high quality and clear face can be recorded. D-Range Optimizer Thanks to the newly deployed BIONZ Image Processing Engine in the HDR-SR12/E, HDR-SR11/E, HDR-SR10/E and HDR-UX20/E, the D-Range Optimizer enhances shooting even in strongly backlit settings. The dynamic range will be adjusted to counter the effects of high-contrast shooting conditions to ensure desired outcome. Linked Zoom Microphone Also for the first time in the camcorder industry, the linked zoom microphone feature is created for video shooting. The HDR-SR12/E, HDR-SR11/E, HDR-SR10/E and HDR- UX20/E all come with this innovative feature. When the user zooms in an object, the sound will also be picked up in a focused manner. This built-in zoom microphone records in Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound for crystal clear and life-like audio results. Hybrid Format Enables Easy Video Dubbing and Sharing Hybrid Plus recording on the HDR-UX20/E camcorder provides three recording media options on one device. s can be transferred from the camcorder s internal memory and Memory Stick to disc, while photos can be transferred from internal memory to Memory Stick easily using the One Touch Disk Burn button. The HDR-SR12/E, HDR-SR11/E and HDR-SR10/E feature hybrid movie recording on optional media cards as well as their in-built hard drives. Both movies and photos can then be directly transferred from the camcorder s hard drive to the media card without the use of a computer. The new 16GB that will be available from March 2008 allows users to store up to 110 minutes of HD video recorded in 1920 mode, almost 6 hours of HD video when shooting in 1440 LP mode, and up to 3800 still pictures in 10-megapixel resolution. Dual Record and Xtra Fine LCD Display with x.v. Colour When in Dual Record mode which allows for simultaneous video and photo capture, the HDR-SR12/E and HDR-SR11/E can capture 7.6-megapixel photos up to the capacity allowed by the media card with Sony s x.v. Colour technology. Focus and image quality can be checked with much greater accuracy on these two models with their 3.2-inch, Xtra Fine (16:9) wide LCD screens that offer a wide viewing angle (160 degrees) and ultra-sharp resolution (921K). The Xtra Fine LCD display offers approximately four times higher resolution and 1.5 times greater contrast in comparison with the Clear Photo LCD Plus display used in previous models. 2

3 HDV Handycam HDR-HC9/E for Video Enthusiasts As HDV remains the supreme choice for keen videographers who enjoy editing their own clips while valuing backward compatibility with their existing DV tape collections, Sony is also introducing the new HDR-HC9/E mini-dv tape model. This Full HD mini-dv tape camcorder comes with the ClearVid CMOS sensor and the built-in zoom microphone feature. The HDR-HC9/E allows users to directly access various manual functions on the LCD screen, including spot metering/focus, peaking, center marker and infinity focus. The originally designed lens hood blocks extra light to prevent ghosting and flaring and to reduce image degradation when shooting in strong daylight.
