VFS3 POWER UP 5 The VFS3 Wireless Video Fiberscope is powered by four 3Volt Photo Lithium batteries. Most manufacturers of these cells designate them as size 123 or CR123A. Tactical Electronics systems draw high current, and we only recommend use of SUREFIRE, GE SANYO, ENERGIZER, or DURACELL batteries. Testing has proven those batteries to provide the longest run time in our products. Though run times will vary, components in this system are designed to optimize power management and power sharing when hard-wired together. The diagrams below demonstrate proper battery installation and power-up for the VFS3 Video Fiberscope. Battery Compartment & Power-Up Procedure: The VFS3 (left) requires four 3V Lithium batteries for operation. Use the battery orientation diagram adhered to the VFS3 for reference. NOTE: For SD card recording, ensure the SD card is inserted before powering ON the VFS3. * Always remove batteries when not in use The power switch for the VFS3 is a rubber push button located on the side of the unit. Fully depress the power button to power ON and OFF the VFS3. Immediately after the VFS3 is powered ON the LED indicator will illuminate a solid blue for approximately 8-10 seconds while the system initializes. Once the power-up phase is complete the LED indicator will illuminate a solid green indicating full operational use (If no SD card is inserted, the LED indicator will flash red). NOTE: When the VFS3 is powered ON the internal light source is powered OFF by default. Power Button To power OFF the VFS3, hold down the power button for 3 seconds to begin power down cycle - when the LED illuminates blue release the power button and the unit will power OFF within seconds. NOTE: DO NOT open the battery door before powering OFF the VFS3. Failure to properly power OFF the unit will result in loss of recorded files. LED Indicator: The LED power indicator will illuminate red to indicate low battery power. After the LED illuminates solid red the unit will shut down within 10 minutes. LED indicator When battery life is critical the LED indicator will illuminate solid blue. Once this occurs the VFS3 will only remain ON for seconds while the system shuts down to protect recorded files on the SD card.
VFS3 OPERATION 6 VFS3 Articulation To the left is a top view of the VFS3 articulation control paddles. As labeled, the paddle on the left controls camera movement RIGHT and LEFT while the paddle on the right controls camera movement UP and DOWN. When moving the paddles you will hear them clicking as well as feel them sliding through locking positions. Normal rotation like this is for quick camera movements to new positions. To scan an inspection area you can depress the paddles for fine or smooth adjustments. After pressing the paddles down, gently move them in the desired direction for a fluid articulation of the probe. Once the paddles are released they will lock into the desired position. WARNING: Forced or quick movement of the adjustment paddles can severely damage the VFS3. The diagram to the left depicts the distal probe or camera in its articulated states. The probe of the fiberscope articulates in four directions up to 160. DO NOT attempt to move, or in any way, manually manipulate the articulating neck of the VFS3. ALWAYS use the articulation control paddles.
VFS3 OPERATION 7 SD Card Recording: Insert the SD card into the SD card slot with the VFS3 powered OFF. DO NOT insert or eject the SD card with the VFS3 powered ON; otherwise, recorded video files will not finalize and will become corrupted. Immediately after the VFS3 is powered ON, the LED indicator will illuminate a solid blue for approximately 2-5 seconds while the system initializes. Once the power-up phase is complete the LED indicator will illuminate a solid green indicating operational use and proper SD card recording. If the VFS3 system indicates a recording error, REC ERROR will display on the monitor(s) in use. If REC ERROR is displayed, power OFF the VFS3, reinsert the SD card, and power ON the unit. The VFS3 will transmit video without the use of SD card recording. If the unit is powered ON without an SD card inserted "REC ERROR" will be displayed on the monitor(s) in use. The LED indicator on the VFS3 will also flash red to indicate no SD card present. SD Card Viewing: * Push in SD Card to eject To review recorded video files: Power OFF the VFS3, eject the SD card, and insert the SD card into an SD card reader on a computer. All files will be under the folder DCIM\100Media on the SD card. Recorded files will be listed sequentially in numerical order. All recorded video files are AVI files, and are easily viewed in Windows Media Player or VideoLan's VLC Player. AVI files may also be viewed in QuickTime with the appropriate plug-in. Snapshot Still Image Capture: The VFS3 has a SNAPSHOT still image capture feature that records a still image to the SD card. To capture a still image, simply depress the SNAPSHOT button while recording video to the SD card.
VFS3 OPERATION 8 VFS3 Focus Tool The focus tool (left) is used to adjust the focal length of the VFS3. The focus tool is supplied in a protective plastic container. Observe that the tool has a hexagon protrusion on one end. This protrusion is to be inserted over the lens located inside the distal end of the probe (visible under close inspection). Proper alignment of the focus tool is necessary to accomplish focus adjustment and to prevent damage to the lens. Once the tool is properly aligned and inserted, it can be twisted clockwise and counter-clockwise to focus the scope. When making the adjustment, secure the distal tip of the probe with your forefinger and thumb. DO NOT bend or otherwise articulate the scope. WARNING: Continued turning of the lens with the focus tool will unscrew the lens completely from the distal tip. After adjusting the focus, remove the focus tool before using the VFS3. Internal Light Source The VFS3 utilizes an internal light supplement to emit light from the distal end of the probe. The internal light supplement has brightness controls located on the side of the unit. Depress the up and down BRIGHTNESS buttons to increase or decrease the intensity of the light. WARNING: When using the Near UV External Light Source, practice extreme caution. This device radiates intense Ultraviolet (UV) light when operated. Exposure to UV radiation can be harmful to your health. Protect your eyes and skin during operation. DO NOT look directly at this device during operation. Exposure to UV light, even for a brief period, can damage your eyes.
VFS3 OPERATION 9 Wireless Transmission: Wireless operation of the VFS3 is very simple. Follow proper VFS3 power-up procedure and the unit will automatically transmit wireless video signals. Once the VFS3 is powered ON, the unit immediately begins transmission of an RF video signal. When a monitor is powered ON the monitor begins receiving the video signal from the VFS3. Cycle through the channels on the monitor until a picture is displayed on the monitor screen. Hard-Wire Transmission: The 0.25 inch jack (shown left) is used for hard-wire operation between the VFS3 and the Handheld Monitor. Simply power ON both the VFS3 and Handheld Monitor, then insert the male/male cable into the 0.25in jacks on each unit. Hard-wire operation disables the wireless signal. 0.25in jack NOTE: When working in extreme low light environments hardwire (if possible) the Handheld Monitor to the VFS3. A hardwire connection provides a slightly brighter picture on the Handheld Monitor. Channel Selector: To determine which channel the VFS3 is transmitting, simply power ON both the VFS3 and monitor. Use the channel selector button(s) on the monitor to cycle through each channel until a picture is displayed on screen. Outgoing channel selector
