1 GSM Intercom - QUICK START GUIDE This guide is for the advanced GSM controller. It will help you set up the GSM intercom as quickly as possible with only the basic features. The controller is capable of much more so if you would like to dig deeper, download the complete manual for the controller from the link at the end of this manual. GSM Intercom Kit Contents 1 x GSM Call point 1 x Z4 GSM Controller inc. gate release relay 1 x 12VDC 1A Regulated Power Supply (or 14VDC if battery back up was purchased) 1 x SIM card (PAYG SIM included) INSTALLATION PROCEDURE 1. Install the supplied cable between the GSM controller and the call point 2. Mount the call point 3. Connect the call point as per wiring diagram below 4. Mount the GSM Controller enclosure to the wall inside the property 5. Connect the GSM controller as per wiring diagram below 6. Check all connections are correct before continuing 7. You re now ready to start programming Users & testing the audio. Connection Diagram... Please follow the following wiring diagrams to ensure optimum performance. Note, if you are using the battery back up kit, connect the supplied power supply as shown below and plug in the battery.

2 NOTES ON WIRING: - Videx button systems: use CALL 4 - Videx button systems: use CALL 3 & 4 - Videx button systems: use CALL 1, 2, 3 & 4 INITIAL SETUP 1. Check your SIM card is activated & completely blank (Delete any info on it by putting it in a mobile phone and deleting the names & numbers one by one) 2. Insert the SIM card into the GSM controller (with the gold contacts facing down & angled corner to the top right) 3. Switch the GSM controller power on

Wait for the blue LED to start flashing between 3-5 times every few seconds Note: If the red LED stays on, and the blue light doesn t start flashing after about 1 minute, you have a network signal or wiring problem. Check your connections or fit the optional external antenna. It may also be a SIM card problem so make sure the SIM card is definitely activated and has credit. VERY IMPORTANT - DO NOT START PROGRAMMING UNTIL YOU HAVE READ THIS!!! If you are using an 02 or Orange UK PAYG, you MUST send this SMS to the SIM card before any further programming: ;+SPO=10; * if you don't, the system will lose programmed settings when powered down due to the way these PAYG SIM cards force customer service numbers to be retained on the SIM TESTING AUDIO & DOOR RELEASE Firstly, set your own mobile number into the memory & press call button to test. NOTE: This is the absolute minimum setting to make the system work. All other settings are optional. 1. Set your mobile number as the number to be called: Send this text message: ;+ATN1=xxxxxxxxxxx; (where xxxxxxxxxxx is your mobile number) You should receive a reply with the same text to confirm the device has received the command. If the device doesn't reply, check the SIM card has credit and the blue LED must be flashing. The red LED must be off. To test 1. Press call button 1 2. Answer the incoming call from the intercom 3. Have a chat with someone through the intercom to check you have audio both ways Note: If you have audio both ways, the system is working. Now check gate release. 1. During the call, press 11 on your phone keypad 2. You will hear the beep DTMF tones come out of the call point & then one beep in your ear to confirm the GSM controller has received the command 3. The Output 1 has switched 2. Connect the gate/door release to your gate logic controller: a) Connect the gate open command to the gate release relay in the GSM control box. The terminals on the relay module COM & N/O should be connected to COM & OPEN on the gate logic controller b) Connect terminals 0V & +V on the gate release relay to OUT1 & +12V respectively on the Z4 GSM Controller. Note: OUT1 is a switched - (negative) voltage. +12V is a permanent 12V feed. When the GSM controller switches 12V from +12V & OUT1, it will activate the gate release relay and in turn switch the gate open command on the gate logic controller. SETTING THE USER NUMBERS TO CALL

4 You will now overwrite your phone number with the actual User phone numbers in the preferred dialing order. Up to 9 numbers can be called by each call button. ATN1 - ATN9 If you want the same number to receive a longer call time, you can simply add it twice ie: as ATN1 & ATN2. 1. Set up button 1 A : a) Send this text message: ;+ATN1=xxxxxxxxxxx;ATN2=xxxxxxxxxxx;ATN3= xxxxxxxxxxx; (where x is the first number called, 2 nd, 3 rd ) To test: 1. Press call button 1 2. Answer the call 3. Check audio both ways 4. Press 11 to check gate release Note: Repeat the above process for each call button. Substitute A in ATN for B (button 2), C (button 3), D (button 4). ADJUSTING THE AUDIO You can adjust the speaker level but the microphone is so sensitive, it is preset and we don't recommend adjusting it. Adjust speaker level: You can adjust the speaker up or down by text message only. Send this text message: ;+SPK=75; Note: The default speaker level is 80. It can be adjusted from 75 to 100. Adjust it up or down in increments of 2 or 3 at a time. A typical volume is max. If 75 is suitable, it is the preferred level to avoid speaker audio back-feeding into the microphone and causing interference. AUDIO INTERFERENCE This is usually causes by having the microphone setting too high, the antenna too close to the speaker unit or low GSM signal in general. Be sure you have at least 3 blue flashes on the ADJUSTING THE TALK TIME You can adjust the amount of time the line stays open during an intercom call to limit the conversation to a minimum. After this time, the call will be cut by the intercom sio set it to suit the maximum time you may wish to speak on the intercom seconds is typical. 60 seconds is the default setting. Send this text message: ;+LOT=40; ADJUSTING THE RING TIME

5 You can adjust the amount of time the system rings for. Default is 25 seconds and if any of the numbers called use Voic it is recommended to not increase this time but to add the same User twice. This way the same person will be called twice but Voic doesn't interfere with the ring cycle. ie: ;+ATN1= ;ATN2= ; If you do want to change the ring time: Send this text message (where 'xx' = the ring time in seconds): for button 1: ;+RTNA=xx; for button 2: ;+RTNB=xx; for button 3: ;+RTNC=xx; for button 4: ;+RTND=xx; NOTE: The ring time includes connection time so doesn't necessarily reflect the actual time of the rings you hear. This is a trial & error adjustment to suit your system. Note: The default time is 25 seconds and this one time relates to the delay between all numbers. You cannot specify different delay times between different numbers. Any amount of time in seconds can be set but beware of voic picking up before the User has had time to answer or the Intercom will go to voic and then stop trying to call unitl the Visitor presses the call button again. ADJUSTING OUTPUT CONFIGURATION If you want a switch on for say 1 hour and then off automatically you can adjust the time delay of the outputs. For gates / doors etc outputs 1 & 2 are already set for a 5 second pulse. For lights or other on/off type devices outputs 3 & 4 are already set as latching contacts. The output status is indicated in the following way: a) Latching ON/OFF contact: ;+OSx=1; (where x is the Output number) b) Timed Pulse contact: ;+OSx=y; (where x is the Output number & y is any number 2 or above This is the pulse length in seconds eg: ;+OS1=3600; (Output 1 will switch for 3600 seconds 1 hour ) Note: The default Output Status Settings are: Output 1 5 second pulse ;+OS1=5; Output 2 5 second pulse ;+OS2=5; Output 3 latch on/off ;+OS3=1; Output 4 latch on/off ;+OS4=1; NOTE: Additional output settings Setting an Output Status to '0' will disable the output. ie: ;+OS1=0; (Output 1 is disabled) Setting an Output Status to allow call ON and call OFF ie: ;+OS1R=1; (1st call switches the output on and next call switches it off)

6 SWITCHING THE OUTPUTS BY SMS You can send text message to switch the outputs based on their preset 'Output Status' as set in the above examples. It is recommended to save the required text messages as a template in your phone so you don't need to type them out each time. If the Output is set to Pulse, you simply send the 'ON' SMS command and after the pulse time it will swicth off automatically. If the Output is set to Latch, you must first send the 'ON' SMS command and then send the 'OFF' SMS command to switch the output off. It's worth noting that the pulse time is unlimited so you can set any amount of time in seconds which is very useful for holding gates open for preset amounts of time. For example: * If Output 1 Status was ;+OS1=86400; it is set to pulse for 24 hours (86400 seconds). * If you then send ;+ORC1=1; to switch Output 1 ON, it will stay on for 24 hours and then switch off automatically. SMS Remote Control Commands OUTPUT 1 ON Command ;+ORC1=1; Sending this command to the V-LITE the output 1 switches ON. OUTPUT 1 OFF Command ;+ORC1=0; Sending this command to the V-LITE the output 1 switches OFF. OUTPUT 2 ON Command ;+ORC2=1; Sending this command to the V-LITE the output 2 switches ON. OUTPUT 2 OFF Command ;+ORC2=0; Sending this command to the V-LITE the output 2 switches OFF. OUTPUT 3 ON Command ;+ORC3=1; Sending this command to the V-LITE the output 1 switches ON. OUTPUT 3 OFF Command ;+ORC3=0; Sending this command to the V-LITE the output 1 switches OFF. OUTPUT 4 ON Command ;+ORC4=1; Sending this command to the V-LITE the output 2 switches ON. OUTPUT 4 OFF Command ;+ORC4=0; Sending this command to the V-LITE the output 2 switches OFF. NOTE: You will receive a reply SMS to confirm the output has switched; assuming the device has

7 SIM card credit. YOU CAN CHECK THE CURRENT STATE OF ALL 4 OUTPUTS: Send this SMS Command: ;PORC; SETTING UP SIM CARD CREDIT CHECKING (PAYG SIM ONLY) You can check the credit of Vodafone or 02 pre-paid SIM cards (UK only) as follows. Vodafone To set it up, send this text message: ;+CC1=*#1345#;CREF#=2; To request the credit at any time send SMS: ;PCC1; 02 To set it up, send this text message: ;+CC1=*#10#;CREF.=1; To request the credit at any time send SMS: ;PCC1; To have the low credit alert sent to a User (TN1) automatically, do the following: Send SMS: ;+TN1=xxxxxxxxxxx;LN8=1; where 'x' = the User number to receive the low credit alert. NOTE: You must enter the Vodafone or 02 code as detailed above whether you want to manually check credit using ;PCC1; or automatically. You only need to send: ;+TN1=xxxxxxxxxxx;LN8=1; if you want the unit to text you when the credit level reaches This threshold can be changed to any number above Send this SMS to edit the Low Credit Threshold: ;+LCV=x; where 'x' = the amount in SETTING UP USERS FOR FREE CALL ACCESS FOR UP TO 50 USERS (CLIP) Authorised Users are able to dial the SIM card in the GSM Controller at no cost to activate one dedicated output. Output 1 is set to this function by default. Explanation of each part of the CLIP function: a) ;+CLPEN=x; (0) Feature Disabled (1) Authorised Users only (2) Any Caller Mode b) ;+CLPOU=x; (1) Output 1 (2) Output 2 (3) Output 3 (4) Output 4 c) ;+CLP1=xxxxxxxxxxx; where 'xxxxxxxxxxx' = User mobile or landline numbers Note: CLP1 - CLP50 are the User slots Programming Users The easiest way to set this up and continue to manage the Users, is by first prompting the system for the current settings. That way you always see what is currently set before you add or delete any numbers.

8 STEP 1: Send this text message: ;PCLP; The device will reply to you in a series of around 4 text messages dependin on how many Users are in the system as follows: ;CLPEN=1;CLPOU=1;CLP1=;CLP2=;CLP3=;CLP4=;CLP5=;CLP6=;CLP7=;CLP8=; CLP9=; CL108=; CLP11=; CLP12=; CLP13=;CLP14=; CLP15=; CLP16=; CLP17=; CLP18=; CLP19=; CLP20=; up to 50 Note: ;CLPEN=1; (feature enabled) ;CLPOU=1; (output 1) are default settings. STEP 2: Select forward from your text message menu Edit SMS appears on your phone SMS editor Edit, add or delete the phone numbers to update the Users. Do not delete any of the existing text, ; or = symbols. (ie: only numbers as shown in red - MAKE SURE TO ADD '+' AS SHOWN IN THE EXAMPLE BELOW TO RECEIVE A REPLY CONFIRMATION TEXT ;+CLP1= ;CLP2= ;CLP3=;CLP4=;CLP5=;CLP6=;CLP7=;CLP8=; CLP9=; CL108=; CLP11=; CLP12= ; CLP13=; CLP14=; CLP15= ; CLP16=; CLP17=; CLP18=; CLP19=;CLP20=;. STEP 3: Send. The unit will now be updated and will reply to you to confirm. You must have put a + symbol after the first ; to get a reply confirmation.
