3 LT5000 GPS TRACKER Thank you for choosing Mongoose as your GPS tracking provider. The LT5000 is a battery operated 2G GPS tracker that is designed to transmit its location usually once a day at a set time, of your choice, for up to 5 years battery life. It is ideal for asset or equipment tracking/monitoring when you only need to know locations on a daily basis. It contains a high capacity battery that can work continuously for up to 5 years. Actual battery life depends on usage and environmental effects. The battery cannot be re-charged or replaced and once exhausted, the whole device (excluding the SIM card) should be disposed of appropriately. The tracker also contains strong magnets to assist in attaching the tracker to the desired equipment, vehicle or asset. The tracker is also supplied with a mobile APP and online website. Location history is retained for a continuous 6 month period. Please read this manual to familiarize yourself with its features and how it works. If you have any questions, we offer telephone assistance during normal office hours Monday to Friday or How GPS works; The tracker uses fixed orbit GPS satellites to find its location on the earth. To get this information to you, the tracker requires a mobile GSM SIM card for connection to the mobile network. The tracker automatically uploads its location to the website using inexpensive mobile data. The website saves the location data for a continuing 6 month period. There are no subscription fees or contracts for the website or APP. The mobile APP is used to display the information stored on the website. The APP and the website are also used to control and change tracker settings. The tracker, APP and website work seamlessly together with virtually no delay in operation. The trackers GSM SIM card must have the ability and credit for text and data. The only ongoing cost is for the SIM card usage payable to the SIM provider. Due to the nature of this product, a PrePay SIM card is more than sufficient with the annual renewal fee probably higher than total data and text usage. 3

4 How to get tracking quick and easy steps; 1. Insert the SIM card 2. Send the 4 set-up text commands 3. Download the mobile APP 4. Logon to the APP or link to the website SIM card installation Only use Vodafone SIM cards Lift the rubber cover Insert the SIM card & turn on Close the cover Startup Insert the SIM card. Turn on the unit outdoors by sliding the button to On - the indicator LED is on. Turning on indoors may result in no GPS reception. In 20~60 seconds, the tracker will begin to work and acquire the GSM mobile signals as well as the GPS satellite signals. The LED indicators will keep flashing every 3 seconds when the unit has received the correct signals. After 4 min the device will be go into deep sleep mode (all the LEDs turn off, GSM & GPS receivers turn off ) ALL SET-UP PROGRAMMING (4 TEXT MESSAGES) MUST BE COMPLETED WITHIN THE FIRST 4 MINUTES. See next page If not completed within this time, re-start the tracker by turning off for 2 minutes. Turn back on and complete the set-up programming once LED s confirm signal reception. 4

6 LOGON to the APP Single tracker Log in by IMEI at bottom right of screen (IMEI is the serial number of your tracker) Multiple tracker Log in by username at bottom left of screen Enter server details: IMEI (printed on the tracker & carton) Username (your choice call Mongoose to set-up) Password = Password (your choice call Mongoose to set-up) NOTE: An alternative APP, TKSTAR GPS, can be used for monitoring only. MULTIPLE TRACKERS USERNAME LOGON If you have more than one tracker, call Mongoose to request an account. You can choose your own username and password that allows you to monitor all devices with just one logon. Link to the website:- Go to:- Save the page in your computers favourites. The international website will open in Chinese. Select your chosen language by clicking on the corresponding flag. The next time you go to the website, it will default to your language. Log in with same details as you do for the mobile APP. DEVICE INFO On APP, select device info and complete all the details for future reference. If not completed, some functions may not operate. THE APN NUMBER not required for Vodafone NZ or 2 Degrees NZ SIM cards If this product is used overseas or with a different GSM SIM provider, you will have to set the APN number of the SIM card provider as the tracker needs to know through whom to send the data. eg; Vodafone NZ = apn vodafone.net.nz 2 Degrees NZ = apn internet Other = ask the SIM supplier for the APN number Reply: apn ok 6

7 MOBILE APP The APP is by far the most convenient means to see the tracker. It allows you to see that last reported location as well as replaying location history for up to 6 months ago. NOTE: As the APP is used by all Mongoose GPS tracker models, some features and functions of the APP are not applicable to the LT5000 model. If you have more than one tracker, call Mongoose to request a username account and your own password that allows you to monitor and track all devices. Please note: The APP and website are owned & operated by a 3 rd party. Purchasers of Mongoose GPS trackers have free usage under current access terms. Mongoose is not responsible if access terms change or the facilities become unavailable. 7

8 FREQUENCY OF REPORTING To maximize the battery life, this tracker should be set to report its location once a day as shown in the example below. However, this tracker is designed to report on more occasions to provide flexibility of usage. The more often it reports, the battery life will incrementally decrease. More frequent reporting is not recommended unless you have a particular purpose where battery life is less important. Remember, the battery cannot be re-charged. Satellite reception also depends on where the tracker is located on the vehicle or asset. If the tracker is attached under, for example a steel trailer, it may not receive GPS signals at all. If GPS satellites cannot be located, it will not report any data to the APP/website at the programmed time. We strongly recommend experimentation in different placements before deciding on a long term location. The longer the tracker is on, the shorter the battery life. 5 minutes is preferred time with good satellite reception. How often per day 02~24 hours You can select how often the tracker turns on to find its location. The less frequency, the longer the battery life. Once a day should provide up to 5 years battery life. Twice a day will reduce life to approximately 3~4 years. Time of day 0001~2359 The time of day that the tracker uploads its location. TAMPER ALARM SOS The tracker has a built-in tamper switch on its base. If the tracker is removed from where it is fixed, it will trigger an alert to the paired phone. See page 10 for alert types. A visual alert will also appear on the mobile APP. The switch is spring loaded and the tracker must be secured to a flat metal surface with its built-in magnets for the switch to be depressed. The switch must be depressed for at least 15 seconds for it to become active. Releasing the switch for more than 3 seconds will cause the tracker to wake up, find its location and send a text alert. The tracker will stay awake for 4 minutes before returning to deep sleep mode. 8

9 PLACEMENT & SECURITY OF THE TRACKER Placement: The LT5000 has strong built-in magnets to assist with attaching the tracker to a vehicle, equipment or asset. Ideally, it should not be placed under metal which can block GPS satellite reception. For example, placing under a vehicle or trailer which is stored inside a garage or building will make GPS reception almost impossible. GPS trackers cannot see through metal but they can through glass or plastic. We strongly recommend experimentation in different placements before deciding on a long term location. If in a location where it is likely to get wet, place the tracker in a tough waterproof polythene bag and seal. Do not place near other equipment that may be affected by magnetism. This tracker is water resistant not waterproof. Security: In some situations the built-in magnets may not be strong enough to keep it attached. An example would be on a trailer chassis and then driving over speed bumps, potholes rough roads the shock of which could cause the tracker to move or become detached and fall off. Placement must also take into consideration the rubber cover over the on/off switch and SIM card slot. This should not be easily accessible to anyone wishing to disable or turn off the tracker. Other means of securing and/or concealing the tracker from becoming detached or tampered with must be sought. DEEP SLEEP MODE active after 4 minutes of turn on In deep sleep mode, GSM, GPRS (data) and GPS reception are all turned off to provide maximum battery life. In this mode, you cannot communicate with the tracker. The only time you can communicate with the tracker, when not with the tracker, is when it turns on at the previously programmed time that was set on page 6. To wake the tracker at other times when you have access to it; 1. Turn the tracker off, wait 2 minutes, then turn back on again. 2. Trigger the trackers tamper switch. 10 TEXT ALERTS Any text alert that is blue in colour means that you can tap the message to open your phones maps to show you the location. If location cannot be found or text data not complete, logon to the APP or website to see current location. The text command chart below describes what type of alert the tracker will send. You can choose between text only, telephone call only, both or no alert APP ISSUE COMMANDS The mobile APP is used to show tracker locations, past and present, set geo-fences and to set your tracking preferences. NOTE: The APP is also used by other Mongoose GPS tracker models, so some features and functions are not applicable to this LT5000 model. Use only the commands shown opposite. Attempting to use other functions may cause this product not to function correctly.
