2 5G INNOVATION CENTRE The 5G Innovation Centre (5GIC) at the University of Surrey is now the largest UK academic research centre dedicated to the development of the next generation of mobile and wireless communications. Bringing together leading academic expertise and key industry partners in a shared vision, the 5GIC will help to define and develop the 5G infrastructure that will underpin the way we communicate, work and live our everyday lives in the future. 9 5GUK Hub - Project overview Integrated at the system level and connected across the three University sites, covering the following sub-systems: Radio Access Technologies (5G RAT New Radio ) to support the different characteristics / use cases for Enhanced mobile broadband (embb) Massive machine type communications (mmtc) Ultra-reliable and low-latency communications (urllc) 5G Core Network 5G Advanced Network Management 5G Interconnectivity (also known as 5G Fabric) The integration of all these sub-systems make up the full End-to-End 5G system: Demonstrated in Q Providing the platform for 5G Hub Operation, ready to connect to External Test Beds by Q for further test and trials activities.

10 5GUK Hub - Project overview Test bed, innovative solutions for the operation and management of 5G networks with new levels of efficiency and resilience enabling trials of secure interoperable technology solutions and services, hardened against cyber-attack. testing internal test use cases, used to validate the end-to-end 5G network, interfaces and capability in a controlled and repeatable environment across the three University sites. the internal use cases will also be used to validate test bed external interfaces, thus preparing the test bed to connect to other external projects and test beds from year two onwards (Q2 2018) The 5G Hub operation will provide the UK with a unique national asset to enable innovation in 5G technologies / services / business model(s) the scaling and reach to execute a UK wide plan for further test beds contribution to global standards and forums identification of new regulatory requirements. vertical segments projects such as connected cars and autonomous driving, Industry 4.0, Health and many others

11 5GUK Hub - Project overview The project, working together with the DCMS 5G Programme, will engage other organisations to: Inform the development of proposals by other organisations to submit bids for funding in 2018/19 onwards to become testbeds. Share knowledge of the developing 5G capabilities to promote the development of a 5G technology ecosystem in the UK, for overseas trade opportunities, and to encourage investment in UK capabilities and facilities. Work with the digital innovation sector, including small enterprises, to ensure readiness of the 5G Hub platform for technology testing, knowledge transfer and support.
