Chapter 1: Installing the Management Console The Management Console (MC) allows you to manage all the Cirrus LT units on your network and do various tasks like uploading firmware to multiple units, send groups of units certain Wi-Fi settings, etc. To install the management console: Download the Management Console from: Once the file has downloaded, unzip the folder and run Mobile Zero Client Management Console.exe. By default, it will listen on port 444. The user can specify a custom port by running Mobile Zero Client Management Console.exe port=xxx where x is a custom port number. (Note: This is currently only a 32-bit program and will only run on a 32 or 64-bit Windows OS.) Open a web browser and type to start the program, where ip-address is the IP of the machine running Mobile Zero Client Management Console.exe and xxx is the port number specified in the command line. NCS recommends Google Chrome for the browser. Note: Extensive compatibility testing has been done to ensure the management console works correctly with the Chrome browser. This same testing has not been done with other browsers; use at your own risk. You will notice some activity in the DOS window, this window can be minimized. If you run the browser on a different machine than where you are installing the management console, then you can put the IP of the MC machine instead of Mobile Zero Client MC Manual-1.0c
Chapter 2: Getting Started Installing the Cirrus LT Management Console In order to run the Cirrus LT Management Console: Locate, and double click the file Mobile Zero Client Management Console.exe. Open a Chrome brower window and type in The following screen should appear: Enter your Mobile Zero Client (MZC) Admin ID and password. If you have not changed the default admin ID and password they are admin and password. Note: You may enter a Start IP or End IP, but these fields are optional. If this field is empty, Mobile Zero Client MC will scan all networks that are connected to the server. Otherwise, it will scan only the IP addresses between Start IP and End IP. Click the Discover Button. The Cirrus LT Management Client should now search for your device and add them to the Devices Tab. 4 Mobile Zero Client MC Manual-1.0c
Teradici Management Console NCS Mobile Zero Clients use Teradici processors for enhanced remote user experience. Teradici has their own Management Console and it can be downloaded from their website From the Teradici Management Console you can lock down your devices, enable Wake on Lan, push connection settings for VMWare VMs, etc. This document does not discuss the Teradici Management Console, but that software should be used by every admin of NCS mobile zero clients. Since there is some overlap with the features of the NCS MC and the Teradici MC, talks have been started about integrating support for NCS mobile zero clients directly into the Teradici MC. There is no timeline for this integration to occur, so NCS will keep supporting the NCS MC until that time. Mobile Zero Client MC Manual-1.0c
Chapter 3: Control Tab The Control Tab is the first screen that appears when you log in. The purpose of the Control Tab is to do tasks with Mobile Zero Clients. Device Discovery Start IP Field: If this field is empty, the MC will automatically scan all networks that are connected to the server. Otherwise, it will scan only the IP addresses between Start IP and End IP. It is important to note about auto-scanning, that only the networks that can be seen by the physical or virtual machine will be scanned. For example, if you have two networks [ and ] and if your machine only has one network card and it is configured on the network. You will not be able to manage the machines since you cannot see that network. Some solutions to this would be to either install another network card in that machine and set it up on the network or you could run the MC on a different machine on that network. 6 Mobile Zero Client MC Manual-1.0c
Firmware Update Under the Devices Tab, select the devices to receive the firmware update by ensuring the devices to receive the firmware have a checkbox next to them. Go back to the Control Tab. Doubleclick the Firmware Update Bar, as shown below. Choose a firmware file to be uploaded to the server first. Then click the Upload Firmware to server Button. Mobile Zero Client MC Manual-1.0c
If you need to refesh list, click the Refesh List Button. This will refresh the list of firmware that you can upload to your selected devices. This is typically done if a new firmware is uploaded or something else has changed like a filename of a firmware file. The newly uploaded firmware file should now show up in the dropdown list to the right of the Refresh List Button, as shown below. Make sure to select the correct firmware file, then click the Update This Firmware Update to Selected Devices Button to send the uploaded firmware file to each selected device from the Devices Tab. 8 Mobile Zero Client MC Manual-1.0c
The Management Console will ask you to confirm the operation via a pop-up window. Press OK. Mobile Zero Client MC Manual-1.0c
Power This section of the Control Tab lets you control the power state of your mobile zero client devices. You can remotely reboot clients, shutdown clients or wake them up via Wake on Lan (WoL). This MC however, cannot enable WoL for the client devices - this is handled via the Teradici Management Console. Power on Selected Devices with Wake-Lan This function will Power on mobile zero client devices that have been selected previously via the Devices Tab using Wake on Lan. The only complication is the MC will not detect mobile zero clients that are off since their IP Address will not be available. To get around this we have created GROUPS, there is more on GROUPS later in this manual. A Group should have been created while these machines were on the network. You could have created a WoL group for all the machines you would like to wake up in the future via this process. From the Group tab you can add a group to the devices list and this is how you would wake them up since you cannot scan for units that are off even if WoL is enabled. Wake on Lan (WoL) must have been previously configured via the Teradici Management Console or via the Teradici web gui. NCS mobile zero clients that have WoL enabled will have an amber power LED when they are turned off. The Teradici MC will be able to scan your networks and identify which NCS mobile zero clients have WoL enabled. 10 Mobile Zero Client MC Manual-1.0c
Restart Selected Devices There will be some cases where you will need to restart selected machines. For instance, any changes you make to the NCS device will require you to restart them to take effect. So password changes, wifi settings etc., will not take effect until a restart happens. You can only restart devices that have been previously selected in the devices tab. Shutdown Selected Devices This function will power down all devices selected in the Devices Tab. This function could be useful after waking up devices that were previously in a WoL state. Mobile Zero Client MC Manual-1.0c
Log Get Wi-Fi Log From Selected Devices This feature will save a Wi-Fi log to the default download location. It will only save information since the last time the target device was restarted. This log gets cleared every time a device is turned on. It is most helpful for reporting Wi-Fi connection issues mainly with authentication. The NCS Helpdesk will use this log to assist customers that are having issues connecting to their wireless LAN infrastructure. You may want to only select one mobile zero client to save this log from and save the log after attempting to connect to the wireless LAN you are having issues with. You can then open a ticket at and submit this log file to assist us in troubleshooting the issue. In order to be prompted to save the Wi-Fi log to a different location, you must change this setting in your browser. Since NCS recommends Google Chrome, here is the setting that you change in order to be prompted for a new download location. 12 Mobile Zero Client MC Manual-1.0c
How to Load Certificates onto the Cirrus LT In order to load a certificate onto the Cirrus LT, you will need the following: Cirrus LT Firmware or newer Mobile Zero Client Management Console 0.18C or newer Google Chrome Browser other browsers are supported results may vary The Cirrus LT currently supports only PEM user certification files, PK12 and other file formats of user certification files will be available in future firmware releases. Go back to the Devices Tab. Under the Last Operation Column, confirm the selected device s status displays the apply_certificate successful message, as shown below. Note: If you are unsuccessful, go back to Step #8 and try again. Mobile Zero Client MC Manual-1.0c
17. You may also want to verify that the certificate was successfully applied to the selected devices on the Cirrus LT Console. In order to do this: Press <FN+F10> to bring up the Onscreen Menu (OSM) and select the Administrator Tab, as shown below. Click on the Certificate Info Tab, as shown below. 20 Mobile Zero Client MC Manual-1.0c
Finally, confirm the certificate is there, as shown below. Mobile Zero Client MC Manual-1.0c
Chapter 4: Devices The Devices Tab is where you manage your devices. The number (x/y) shown next to the Devices text means there are current x devices selected out of a total of y devices in the list. Select/deselect the checkbox on the title row will select/deselect all devices. Click on the serial number of a device to see its details. Click on the Update Selected Devices Button to refresh the details of selected devices after operations that might change the status/settings of the devices. Retrieving the Device List in Order to Edit Them Device Details Page Select a checkbox next to an item to allow editing on that item. When the Apply Modified Data Button is clicked, only selected settings will be sent to the devices. After that, the Update Selected Devices Button should be clicked to refresh the device list. 22 Mobile Zero Client MC Manual-1.0c
The wifi configurations will be added to the existing list of wifi configs on the device. If a device failed to log in due to a wrong password, the user can modify the credential on this page and click the Apply Button to try to log in again. Then click the Update Selected Devices Button to refresh the details of the device. Mobile Zero Client MC Manual-1.0c
24 Mobile Zero Client MC Manual-1.0c
In the screenshot above you can see how to change the mobile zero client s admin ID and password. Check the boxes to the left of the space, type the new information then click the Apply Modified Data Button, as shown in the next screenshot. Mobile Zero Client MC Manual-1.0c
You will then need to restart the device(s) via the Control Tab (Power Section) for this change to fully take effect. 26 Mobile Zero Client MC Manual-1.0c
Chapter 5: Groups Tab The Groups Tab enables you to setup groups to more efficiently manage different groups of devices. For example, say you have an accounting department and they all use the accounting Wi-Fi access point. You could assign their devices into an accounting group and then manage them more efficiently since they all would probably need the same settings. It is required to use Groups if you intend to use the Wake-on-Lan feature. Since Mobile Zero Clients could be offline and you will want to wake them up via WoL, they will need to be stored as a group since offline mobile zero clients cannot be discovered. But if they are stored in a group you can still wake them up because the MC stores the MAC address of the clients. Mobile Zero Client MC Manual-1.0c
Add New Group Click the Add New Group Button to add a new group. This is what the MZC looks like after a group has been added: 28 Mobile Zero Client MC Manual-1.0c
Delete Group Click the Delete Group Button to delete a group. Show This Group in Devices When the Show This Group in Device List Button is clicked, the saved devices from the database will be added to the device list on the Devices Tab. In addition, the newly added devices will be selected on the device list. Mobile Zero Client MC Manual-1.0c
Assign Selected Devices to This Group When the Assign Selected Devices to This Group Button is clicked, selected devices will be assigned a group name and saved to the database. Such devices will be persistent across browser sessions. 30 Mobile Zero Client MC Manual-1.0c
Chapter 6: Profiles Tab The Profiles Tab is where you can store sets of settings to send to many mobile zero clients. So back to the accounting example, you could store the wifi ESSID and password for the accounting group and save this wifi network as a preferred network and to autoconnect. Do this once as a profile for accounting, then you can push these same settings to all the accounting devices. These devices should be saved into an accounting group as well. Mobile Zero Client MC Manual-1.0c
Add New Profile When the New Profile Button is clicked, it will create a new default profile. If there is a device currently opened in the Device Details page, the settings of that device will be copied to the newly created profile. See below for an example. 32 Mobile Zero Client MC Manual-1.0c
Editing a Profile When the Edit a Profile Button is clicked, the following will come up. Make changes as you see necessary and you can either Save Changes to Current Profile or Apply Changes to Selected Devices. Mobile Zero Client MC Manual-1.0c
Save Changes to Current Profile When the Save Changes To Current Profile Button is clicked, only selected settings are saved to the profile. Apply Current Profile to Selected Devices When the Apply Current Profile to Selected Devices Button is clicked, the whole profile will be applied to currently selected devices. Note that unsaved modified settings will be discarded. Note: After a device is applied with a new profile, the device should be restarted (using the controls in the Control/Power section) for the settings to take effect. Delete Profile To delete a profile, select the profile you want to delete and click the Delete Profile Button. 34 Mobile Zero Client MC Manual-1.0c
Chapter 7: Troubleshooting What ports do i need to open in my firewall to ensure that my Cirrus LT will be able to transmit and receive data via the PCoIP protocol? PCoIP Port: (TCP/UDP) Used for PCoIP in a VMware View 4.0.x and later environment. This port is required for the PCoIP display protocol on the software client and must be open in both inbound and outbound directions. PCoIP Port: 4172 (TCP/UDP) Used for PCoIP in a VMware View 4.5 and later environment. This port is required for the PCoIP display protocol. The port 4172 UDP must be open in both inbound and outbound directions. The port 4172 TCP must be open in only the inbound direction. When I do a Device Discovery, the MC doesn t find all my Mobile Zero Clients. What should I do? Ensure that the MC is on the same network as the devices that you are trying to discover. If the system that is running the MC can t see or ping the devices because they are on a different network or subnet, the MC will not be able to detect the devices. Mobile Zero Client MC Manual-1.0c
