1 PROD UCT DE SCRIP TION AND SPECI FI CA TIONS 508 SERIES MICROPHONE STATIONS 508 SERIES MICROPHONE STATIONS GENERAL DESCRIPTION The 508 Se ries Mi cro phone Sta tions are ad vanced de sign, full fea tured mi cro phone sta - tions with a large ar ray of op tions. Much of its ver sa til ity can be at trib uted to its on- board mi cro con trol ler. The 508 Se ries mi cro phone sta tions pro vide an audio and con trol in ter - face, with increased control capability due to the on-board microcontroller, between IED s hand held, and goose neck mi cro phones, and IED s 500ACS, 8000 Se ries TIPS, and 2000 Se ries UDAPS sys tems. All 508 Se ries mi cro phone sta tions, with the ex cep tions of the 508T Tele phone In ter face and the 508BIO, in clude a 12 but ton key pad, a 2 line X 16 char ac ter LCD dis play, and busy and ready LED in di ca tors. The LCD dis play is used to in di cate and prompt the user for in for ma tion, and to show prog ress. The red Busy LED in di cates when the por tion of the sys tem re quested is in use. The green Ready LED in di cates when the de sired por - tion of the sys tem is avail able for an ac tion or an an nounce ment. The audio sec tion of the 508 Se ries mi cro phone sta tions in cludes a bal anced dif fer en tial line re ceiver, a com pres sor, and a bal anced line driver out put which is ca pa ble of driv ing ex tremely long lines of shielded twisted pair ca ble with out sig nifi cant high fre quency rol - loff. A test os cil la tor is built into the mi cro phone sta tion. It can be switched into the audio sec - tion, ei ther by a spe cific key pad en try at the mi cro phone sta tion or by an en try at the main com puter. Since all of the func tions are en tered from the key pad, 508 Se ries mi cro phone sta tions are not lim ited to four or five se lec tions. They can, if de sired, ad dress any se lec tion or func tion of which the sys tem with which they are in ter faced is ca pa ble. If in ter faced with a 500ACS sys tem with a Flight An nounce ment Sys tem (FAS), all the flight an nounce ment in for ma tion can be en tered us ing the key pad and prompts on the LCD dis play. The 508 Se ries tele phone in ter face sta tion does not in clude a key pad or an LCD dis play, but it in ter faces with and al lows an nounce ments and con trol func tions from any tone type (DTMF) tele phone. All key pad func tions can be emu lated us ing a tone type (DTMF) telephone. All 508 Se ries rack mount mi cro phone sta tions in clude an RS422 in ter face and the ca - pa bil ity of add ing a 508I 64 logic in put card and a 508O 64 logic out put card. With ap pro - pri ate soft ware in stalled, the RS422 elec tron ics can in ter face with and con trol the 4000 Se ries Auto matic Mixer Sys tem, the 564 Re mote Con trol Sys tem, and/or other mi cro - phone sta tions. Con trol can be ei ther di rect or through a main com puter sys tem. The 508I and 508O op tions, when in cluded, are used to de tect ex ter nal switch clo sures and con vert them to logic sig nals which serve as in di ca tions to the mi cro con trol ler of ex - ter nal events. The 508O can also be used to drive in di cat ing de vices such as LEDs, or to switch light loads such as re lays. All of the 508 Se ries mi cro phone sta tions, ex cept for the all of the desk top and all of the goose neck type mi cro phone ver sions, have the ca pa bil ity of func tion ing with any com - bi na tion of up to three ex ter nal 500HH Hand Held Mi cro phones in ad di tion to the lo cal 500 SE RIES AUDIO CON TROL SYSTEM JUL 2008 SEC TION 3 GROUP 02 SUB A PAGE 1

The ex pan sion mi cro phones can be lo cated up to 1000 away, in ter fac ing to ei ther a lock ing door or flush mount ex pan sion plate. When ex pan sion units are used, all mi cro phones in the group op er ate on a pri or ity ba sis. When the push- to- talk but ton is pressed on one mi cro phone, the other mi cro phones in the group are locked out un til that push- to- talk but ton is re leased. The push- to- talk but tons on all units in the group are pro grammed for the same func tion. If the op era tor in a group needs to per form a dif fer - ent func tion, he/she must go to the four but ton sta tion to per form any of the other four func tions. Cus tom pan els can be de signed with room lay outs or spe cial switch/led con figu ra tions for air port in for ma tion sys tems or auto matic mixer room com bin ing sys tems. Con sult the fac tory for more in for ma tion on these pan els and sys tems. Flush Mount Microphone Stations Two dif fer ent flush mount con figu ra tions of the 508 Se ries mi cro phone sta tions are avail - able, with three dif fer ent mi cro phone type op tions. The 508VFM is the ver ti cal ver sion which has four mi cro phone in puts and can be used with one to four mi cro phones. One mi cro phone can be con nected di rectly to the mi cro - phone sta tion, or, if de sired, it can be lo cated re motely, up to 1000 away, by us ing an ex - pan sion sta tion. The ad di tional mi cro phones, if used, are con nected to ex pan sion sta tions which also can be mounted up to 1000 away from the main sta tion. The 508VFM mi cro phone sta tion has the ca pa bil ity of be ing lo cally pow ered and of hav - ing bidirectional serial communications via an RS422 port. The elec tron ics are mounted on a Lexan face plate which has a vel vet tex tured front sur face. The face plate fits a stan dard 6- gang back box. The ori en ta tion of the face plate and back box is ver ti cal. The 508HFM is elec tri cally and op era tion ally simi lar to the 508VFM. It dif fers from the 508VFM in that the ori en ta tion of its face plate and back box is hori zon tal. All four ver sions of the flush mount mi cro phone sta tions can be sup plied with any of the following two microphone options: 500HH Hand held mi cro phone 500G Gooseneck Microphone All four ver sions of the 508 Se ries flush mount mi cro phone sta tions can be mounted flush to a wall or coun ter, or sur face mounted to a wall or coun ter. In flush mounted ap pli ca tions for new con struc tion, all four ver sions of the 508 Se ries flush mount mi cro phone sta tions will mount in a stan dard 6- gang back box, RACO box #954 or 955 with raised de vice cover #825, or equiva lent. The tabs must be re moved as shown in fig ure 13. IED pro vides the 508FBB Flush Mount Back Box for this ap pli ca tion. See fig ure 10. In sur face mounted ap pli ca tions, IED pro vides the 508SBB Sur face Mount Back Box to house the all flush mount ver sions of the 508 Se ries. See fig ure 9. The 508SBB is painted the same color as the flush mount face plates. In flush mount ap pli ca tions for ex ist ing con struc tion the 508SBB Sur face Mount Back Box can be used with the 508FL flange to mount the flush mount mi cro phone sta tions in SEC TION 3 GROUP 02 SUB A PAGE 2 JUL SE RIES AUDIO CON TROL SYSTEM

The 508FL flange pro vides a 3/8" lip around the out side of the box to cover the edge of the cut out in the dry wall around the back box. Desktop Microphone Stations One desk top con figu ra tion of the 508 Se ries mi cro phone sta tions is avail able, with two different microphone type options. The 508DT is the 508 Se ries desk top con figu ra tion with one mi cro phone in put and has the ca pa bil ity of be ing lo cally pow ered and of hav ing bidi rec tional se rial com mu ni ca - tions via an RS422 port. The 508DT Desk top Mi cro phone Sta tions can be sup plied with any of the fol low ing three microphone options: 500HH Hand held mi cro phone 500G Gooseneck Microphone The 500G Goose neck Mi cro phone mounts di rectly to the desk top mi cro phone sta tion via an XLR con nec tor. The 500HH does not have a di rect method to mount to the desk - top mi cro phone sta tion. It con nects to the sta tion via a 6- conductor coiled cord which is ter mi nated with an RJ45 molded modu lar con nec tor. Hang ers for this mi cro phone is avail able from IED. The mi cro phone type to be used with the 508DT must be speci fied when or der ing so that it can be sup plied with the proper mi cro phone con nec tor. Locking Door Microphone Stations The lock ing door en clo sure ver sion of the 508 Se ries mi cro phone sta tion is avail able with one mi cro phone type, the 500HH Hand held mi cro phone. The 508LD has four mi cro phone in puts and can be used with one to four mi cro phones. One mi cro phone can be con nected di rectly to the mi cro phone sta tion, or, if de sired, it can be lo cated re motely, up to 1000 away by us ing an ex pan sion sta tion. The ad di tional mi cro phones, if used, are con nected to ex pan sion sta tions which also can be mounted up to 1000 away from the main sta tion. The 508LD mi cro phone sta tion has the ca pa bil ity of be ing lo cally pow ered and of hav ing bidirectional serial communications via an RS422 port. This mi cro phone sta tions make use of a lock ing door en clo sure with an in sert to which is mounted the LCD dis play and the elec tron ics as sem bly. A hanger which will ac cept the mi cro phone is mounted in side the en clo sure. The en clo sure can be ei ther flush mounted or sur face mounted. The 500G Goose neck Mi cro phone is not an op tion for the lock ing door mi cro phone sta - tions. Expansion Stations The 508 Se ries Flush Mount and Lock ing Door Sta tions can use ex pan sion mi cro phone sta tions. The 508 Se ries and 500 Se ries mi cro phone sta tions use the same ex pan sion stations. The expansion stations can service microphones in two configurations. The 500FME is a 4- gang flush mount ex pan sion plate which can mount a re mote mi cro - phone up to 1000 from the 508 Se ries Mi cro phone Sta tion. The plate it self is fab ri cated from vel vet tex tured Lexan con fig ured in a ver ti cal ori en ta tion. The 500FME will ac cept the 500HH Hand Held Mi cro phone. The 500FME mounts in a stan dard 4- gang elec tri cal box such as the RACO #952 or 953 with raised de vice cover #823 (see fig ure 13), or equiva lent, or in the IED 500SBB, fig ure 11, or 500FBB, fig ure 12. The 500LDE is a lock ing door ex pan sion mi cro phone sta tion which can mount a re mote mi cro phone up to 1000 from the 508 Se ries mi cro phone sta tion. The 500LDE con sists of a lock ing door en clo sure with an in sert which holds an RJ45 modu lar re cep ta cle for the mi cro phone con nec tor, and a hanger to hold the mi cro phone when it is not in use. It can be used for both flush mount or sur face mount ap pli ca tions. The 500LDE is sup plied with the 500HH Hand Held Mi cro phone. Rack Mount Stations The 508 Se ries mi cro phone sta tions can be ob tained in a number of dif fer ent rack mount able mod els. All are de signed to be in stalled in a stan dard EIA rack. The 508RM is the ba sic rack mounted mi cro phone sta tion. It has three mi cro phone in - ter faces, with one nor mally mounted in the front panel. The other two, if used, are for re - mote sta tions which can be lo cated up to 1000 away. The 508RM also has one line level in put with a switch for con ven iently in tro duc ing an aux il iary source through the mi cro - phone sta tion, if de sired. The line level in put and switch are mounted on the front panel. The 508RMIO has all the fea tures of the 508RM, and in ad di tion in cludes one 508I Logic In put Card and one 508O Logic Out put Card. The 508SRM has all the fea tures of the 508RM, and in ad di tion in cludes a self- powered 4" speaker and vol ume con trol mounted on the front panel. The speaker is nor mally used in con junc tion with the audio moni tor ing sys tem. The 508SRMIO has all the fea tures of the 508SRM, and in ad di tion in cludes one 508I Logic In put Card and one 508O Logic Out put Card. In all of the mi cro phone sta tions de scribed above, the elec tron ics as sem blies are mounted on a black ano dized brushed alu mi num panel which is 5 EIA rack spaces high. All ver sions of the rack mount mi cro phone sta tions can be sup plied with any of the fol - lowing two microphone options: Telephone Interface Microphone Stations 500HH Hand held mi cro phone 500G Gooseneck Mi cro phone The 508T-1 and 508T-2 are tele phone in ter face mi cro phone sta tions. The 508T-1 has one tele phone in ter face, and the 508T-2 has two. The 508T4-1 and 508T4-2 have the fea tures of the 508T-1 and 508T-2, re spec tively, ex - cept that they have the ca pa bil ity of be ing lo cally pow ered and of hav ing bidi rec tional serial communications via an RS422 port. The 4 ring set ting al lows a caller ID sys tem to de tect and han dle the call, if nec es sary, be fore the 508T an swers. All ver sions have pro vi sion, if re quired by their All mod els are rack mounted. These tele phone in ter faces al low di al ing into the sys tem from any tone- type (DTMF) tele phone and ac cess ing the fea tures as would be done from a 508 Se ries mi cro phone sta tion key pad. Logic I/O Units The 508BIO is a rack mounted proc es sor card with in ter face to a 508I Logic In put Card and a 508O Logic Out put Card. The 508BIO4 has the fea tures of the 508BIO and in ad di tion it has pro vi sion for lo cal powering and bidirectional serial communications via an RS422 I/O port. Microphone Station Options Listed in Ta bles 1, 2, 3, and 4 are all of the 508 Se ries mi cro phone sta tions avail able as stan dard prod ucts. Any other con figu ra tion that is re quested would be con sid ered a cus tom prod uct.
