1 A. ACADEMIC REGULATIONS FOR B.E/B.TECH PROGRAMME i) ADMISSIONS: Admissions into first year of B.E/B.Tech Programme and admissions into second year (later entry) of B.E/B.Tech programme of the Institute will be as per the norms stipulated by Andhra University & Andhra Pradesh State Council for Higher Education (APSCHE), Govt. of Andhra Pradesh. ii) PROGRAMMES OFFERED: The following are the B.E/B.Tech. programmes offered by the Institute. 1 Chemic Engineering 2 Civil Engineering Computer Science & Engineering 4 Electric & Electronics Engineering 5 Electronics & Communication Engineering 6 Information Technology 7 Mechanic Engineering iii) STRUCTURE OF THE B.E/B. Tech. PROGRAMME: The programme of instruction will consist of basic sciences, engineering sciences, humanities and mathematics. The complete programme is distributed over eight semesters with two semesters per academic year. Every branch of B.E/B.Tech programme will have a curriculum and syllabi for the courses recommended by the board of studies and approved by the academic council. The academic programmes of the Institute follow the credit system. The curriculum of B.E/B.Tech programme was designed to have a tot of around 200 credits. iv) DURATION OF THE PROGRAMME: The duration of the programme is four academic years consisting of two semesters in each academic year. A student is permitted to complete the Programme in a stipulated time frame of 8 consecutive academic years from the date of initi admission. Students joining the Programme in the 2 nd year through later entry scheme shl have to complete the programme in a stipulated time frame of 6 consecutive academic years from the date of initi admission. 2 v) MEDIUM OF INSTRUCTION: The medium of instruction and examination is in English. vi) MINIMUM INSTRUCTION DAYS: Each semester normly consists of a minimum of 16 weeks of instruction. vii) Academic Cendar: : The dates of l important events, such as commencement of class work, examinations, vacations, etc., during the Academic year will be specified in the Academic Cendar of the Institute, as approved by the Academic council. viii) Examinations & Evuation Process: The performance of a student in each semester shl be evuated subject-wise with a ma of marks each for theory and practic/drawing subjects. (a) Theory course: For l lecture based theory courses, the assessment shl be for 0 marks through intern evuation and 70 marks through extern end-semester examination of three hours duration. (b) Intern evuation: The marks for the intern evuation shl be awarded by the concerned teachers based on class work, quiz, viva-voce, assignments, student regularity and two midexaminations etc., according to a scheme notified by the department at the beginning of the semester. (c) Extern evuation: The question paper shl be set externly and vued both internly and externly. The average of the two vuations will be taken for award of marks. In case the difference of the marks obtained in the two vuations is more than 20%, then the third examiner shl vue the script and out of the three vuations, the average of two vuations which are closer together will be taken into account. (d) Laboratory course: Each student will perform nearly 12 to 15 experiments in each laboratory course. Laboratory course will be evuated for marks, out of which 50 marks are for extern examination and 50 marks are for intern evuation. The intern marks are Page 2

3 awarded based on continuous assessment, record work, intern lab examination and student regularity. The extern examination will be conducted by two examiners, one of them being laboratory class teacher as intern examiner and an extern examiner nominated by the princip from the panel of experts recommended by the HOD. A candidate shl be declared to have passed in any subject if he/she secures in the university examinations, not less than 40% in theory and not less than 50% in lab course, in addition to securing minimum of E grade for theory and a minimum of D grade for laboratory course. ix) ATTENDANCE REGULATIONS: Attendance of a student is computed by considering tot number of periods conducted in l courses as the denominator and the tot number of periods actuly attended by the student in l courses, as the numerator. It is desirable for a student to put on % attendance in l the subjects. However, a candidate shl be permitted to appear for the semester end examination provided he/she maintains a minimum of 75% overl attendance in the semester. The shortage of attendance on medic grounds can be condoned up to a maximum of 10% provided the student puts in at least 65% attendance and provided the princip is satisfied with the genuineness of the reasons. The Medic certificates are to be submitted to the Head of the Department when the candidate reports back to the classes immediately after the leave. Certificates submitted afterwards shl not be entertained. Condonation fee as fixed by the college for those who put on attendance between 65% and <75% shl be charged before the end examinations. In the case of students who participate in co-curricular, extra-curricular activities like student seminars, N.S.S, N.C.C, Inter-collegiate tournaments and any such other activities involving the representation of the Institute, with the prior approv of the princip, the candidate may be deemed to have attended the classes during the actu period of such activity, solely for the purpose of attendance. A candidate who did not satisfy minimum attendance requirement because of late admission under speci circumstances shl have to attend at least 50% of the tot scheduled periods during that semester and shl have to attend at least 90% of the tot periods of instructions held from the date of admission. Page

4 A student, who could not satisfy the minimum attendance requirement of 65% in any semester, shl be declared detained. He/she is not eligible to appear for the semester end examinations and shl have to repeat that semester with the next batch of students. x) AWARD OF GRADES: S.No. Range of Grade Grade Points 1 86% and above A %-85% A 9 67%-74% B %-66% C %-57% D %-49% E 5 7 9% F(Fail)* 0 8 The grade I represents insufficient attendance / absent (subsequently changed into pass or higher grades.) *minimum grade to pass in a laboratory course is D. I 0 The performance of a student at the end of the each semester is indicated in terms of Semester Grade Point Average (SGPA). The SGPA is cculated as below: Σ ( of a course x Grade points awarded for a course) SGPA = Σ ( of a course) SGPA is cculated for the candidates who passed l the courses in that semester. Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) will be cculated from II semester onwards up to the fin semester and its cculation is similar to SGPA, considering l the subjects enrolled from the first semester onwards. xi) AWARD OF CLASS : A candidate who becomes eligible for the award of B.E/B.Tech. Degree shl be placed in one of the following Classes. Page 4

5 S.No. Class CGPA 1 2 First Class With Distinction : CGPA 8.o or more. First Class : CGPA not less than 5.0 and less than or more* 6.5 or more but less than 8.0 Second Class/Pass 5.0 or more but less than 6.5 *First class with Distinction will be awarded to those students who clear l the subjects in single attempt. The CGPA can be converted to aggregate percentage by multiplying CGPA with 10, in case of requirement by any other university or for any other purpose. xii) ELIGIBILITY FOR AWARD OF B.E/B.TECH. DEGREE: A student shl be eligible for award of the B.E/B.Tech degree if he/she fulfils l the following conditions 1) Registered and successfully completed l the components prescribed in the Programme of study to which he/she is admitted in the stipulated period, 2) Obtained CGPA greater than or equ to 5.0 (Minimum requirement for Pass), ) No disciplinary action is pending against him/her and 4) Has no dues to the Institute including hostels. i) CONDUCT AND DISCIPLINE : Students shl conduct themselves within and outside the premises of the Institute in a manner befitting the students of the Institution.
