46 THE LEARNING LEVELS 100-level: Awareness For individuals with limited or no prior knowledge of green building principles. Introduces you to issues and provides general information, including terminology, general principles and theories. 200-level: Understanding For those familiar with the LEED Rating System and green building principles. Delves deeper into specific issues and helps you grasp the meaning of the subject matter. Supports GBCI s Tier I (LEED Green Associate) credential and maintenance of all credentials. 300-level: Implementation For those who are implementing and applying the LEED Rating System. Challenges you to use previouslylearned information in concrete situations to solve problems. Pre-session work may be involved with instructor-led workshops. Supports GBCI s Tier II (LEED AP+) credentials and maintenance of all credentials.

LEED AP ACCREDITATION ISSUE: As changes to the USGBC National program evolve, clarity is needed regarding LEED accreditation and LEED Programs and materials need to be developed to support the new levels of LEED accreditation and introduce LEED A roadmap needs to be developed outlining how to become a LEED AP. Revenue generating LEED technical workshops need to continue. Faculty needs to be identified. Subcommittee members: Joseph Lucido, Nancy Mirr, Lisa Kramer, Lee Lobaugh, Kevin Swanson

67 CURRENT LEED: GOALS Q1 and Q2: Provide programs to support those planning to take the current LEED AP exam. Must register to take the exam before March 31, 2009 Exam will probably be discontinued in July March 9, 2009: LEED for New Construction USGBC Technical Workshop April, May, June 2009: Dates TBD LEED Test Prep Workshops for LEED NC and LEED for Commercial Interiors.

69 2. GREENING EXISTING BUILDINGS ISSUE: Education and practical knowledge is needed on how to green existing commercial buildings. Programs and materials need to be developed to stimulate LEED EBOM building certification (Existing Buildings Operations and Maintenance). Collaboration with strategic partners such as BOMA and IFMA should be developed Webinars and Seminars Workshops and Work groups (100 Awareness, 200 Understanding, 300 Implementation) Subcommittee members: Steve Panico, Easton Gardner, Kurt Tellefsen, Amy Petros

EXTENDING REACH OF USGBC TO STRATEGIC INFLUENCERS ISSUE: Strategic decision makers and influencers beyond the AEC community need to be educated on the rationale for green building, including economic and legislative drivers. Stakeholders include developers, commercial real estate community, facility managers and local government officials. Positively influencing these stakeholders will increase the number of LEED building certifications. Target markets identified: Financial and legal decision makers Database development: Program development: Greening Commercial Real Estate (USGBC National Program) Others under consideration Partnerships: ULI, SANDAG

71 4.DEVELOP COLLEGE LEVEL PROGRAMS ISSUE: College level programs can potentially be developed under the USGBC Preferred Education Provider program - targeted toward the next generation of green building influencers. Emerging Green Builders committee and programs should be leveraged. INCREASING GENERAL PUBLIC AWARENESS ISSUE: The general public needs more information about green homes including waste recycling, new construction and renovations, interiors etc. Encourage collaboration with LEED for Homes Committee and USGBC National LEED for Homes education program. Consider partnering with and leveraging programs developed by consumer focused NGOs such as CCSE Broad topic needs more discussion and specific goals identified.
