5 Certification objectives LPIC-1 : Workstation networking and administration Overview of Tasks : To pass Level 1, someone should be able to: Work at the Linux command line Perform easy maintenance tasks: help users, add users to a larger system, backup and restore, shutdown and reboot Install and configure a workstation (including X) and connect it to a LAN, or a standalone PC to the Internet. Prerequisites: None Requirements: Passing Exams 101 and 102

8 Certification objectives LPIC-3 : Advanced administration, virtualization and HA The LPIC-3 certification is the culmination of LPI's certification program. The LPIC-3 program consists of a single exam for LPIC-3 "core" designation. A number of "specialty" exams are proposed as additional designations on top of the LPIC-3 core. Proposed specialties include: mixed environment security high availability and virtualization web and intranet mail and messaging

9 LPIC-3 : Core Certification objectives Overview of Tasks : To pass Level 3 Core (301), someone should be able to: Have several years experience with installing and maintaining Linux on many computers for various purposes Have integration experience with diverse technologies and operating systems Have professional experience as, or training for, an enterprise-level Linux professional. (This includes experience as a part of another role.) Know advanced and enterprise levels of Linux administration, including installation, management, security, troubleshooting and maintenance Be able to use open-source tools to measure capacity planning and to troubleshoot resource problems Have professional experience using LDAP to integrate with Unix services and Windows services, including Samba, PAM, , Active Directory Be able to plan, architecture, design, build and implement a full environment using Samba and LDAP as well as measure the capacity planning and security of the services Be able create scripts in Bash or Perl or has knowledge of at least one system programming language (such as C)

11 Certification objectives LPIC-3 : Mixed environments Overview of Tasks : To pass Level 3 Mixed environments (302), someone should be able to: Have necessary skills and experience as outlined in LPIC-3 core exam Have professional experience using Samba to integrate file and print services with Windows, including user management, domain control, security and performance tuning Be able to plan, design, build and implement a complete multi-user environment using Samba Prerequisites: You must have an active LPIC-2 certification to receive LPIC-3 certification, but the LPIC-2 and LPIC-3 exams may be taken in any order. Requirements: Passing the 301 exam and any one of the LPI exams to receive the respective specialty certification

Supervise assistants and help troubleshoot problems. Serve as a consultant to higher management. Prerequisites: You must have an active LPIC-2 certification to receive LPIC-3 certification, but the LPIC-2 and LPIC-3 exams may be taken in any order. Requirements: Passing the 301 exam and any one of the LPI exams to receive the respective specialty certification

13 Certification objectives LPIC-3 : Virtualization and High Availability Overview of Tasks : To pass Level 3 Virtualization and high availability (304), you should be able to work with : Virtualization (Xen, KVM and other) Load balancing (Linux virtual server, HAProxy, LinuxPMI) Cluster management (Pacemaker, advanced Pacemaker, Red Hat cluster suite) Cluster storage (DRBD, Global File System and OCFS2, other clustered file system) Prerequisites: You must have an active LPIC-2 certification to receive LPIC-3 certification, but the LPIC-2 and LPIC-3 exams may be taken in any order. Requirements: Passing the 301 exam and any one of the LPI exams to receive the respective specialty certification

17 Exam costs Taking exams Depending on where you take LPI exams, the cost will usually be the equivalent of 150. Note that the LPIC-3 exam is priced differently then all other exams, it is 220 for a single exam. In our case, we have the academic price : details next slide Except for the LPI-LET certification : it cost 50 Receiving your certification Once you have passed all the required exams to achieve a certification, you will be automatically notified by , at the address you provided when you obtained your LPI identification number. Within four to eight weeks of receiving this , you will receive, by post, your paper certificate and plastic LPI wallet card. Congratulations!

19 Step 1 : Register Taking exams You must register online to receive an LPI identification number first. Registration is free of charge and is completed at the LPI web site. [here] Step 2 : Choose your program LPIC (Linux Professional Institute Certification) is offered at multiple levels. Indicate which exams and level of LPIC you are pursuing. Step 3 : Understand LPI policies it is important that anyone planning to take LPI exams is aware of our policies on issues such as exam re-takes and expiry. Please read and understand our policies before taking LPI exams. Step 4 : Schedule to take and exam You must provide your LPI ID to the test centers when registering for an exam. You can register for LPI exams through one of the thousands of Pearson VUE or Prometric testing centers worldwide. Step 5 : Take the exam
