You can study on this two-year Higher National Diploma and go straight into work, or use it as preparation for moving on to university to study for a degree in computing. Either way, it will give you a diverse set of skills and sound analytical knowledge across a range of computing subjects from digital image creation, through to IT security management. 3 What will I learn? The HNC in Computing is designed to help you develop both the technical and softer skills that are increasingly sought by employers. The course covers digital hardware design, network engineering, coding, web development, robotics, business analysis and database administration, as well as numerous other sought-after skills. You will learn the major specialisms in computing by studying the following modules: On the HNC Computing (Year 1) you will study: Core Units: Programming Networking Professional Practice Database Design & Development Security Managing a Successful Computing Project Specialist Units: Website Design & Development Maths for Computing On completion of the HNC, you can progress to the HND in Year 2 and study: - Computing Research Project - Business Intelligence - Advanced Programming - Forensics - Data Mining - Application Development - Games Development How will I be taught? You will be taught by enthusiastic, qualified and industryexperienced lecturers. Teaching methods will include: - Practical workshops and demonstrations - Lectures and seminars - Group and one-to-one tutorials You may also have the chance to work on client-led briefs, as well as projects which have relevant, industrybased case studies There will also be case studies which will have relevant industry themes as well as guest speakers. How will I be assessed? You will be assessed by practical and written coursework at the end of each unit. If you reach the required standard, you will be awarded a pass, merit or distinction. You must achieve a minimum of 240 credits to be awarded the HND in Computing.

4 What qualifications do I need to qualify for this course? You must have: 48 new UCAS points or 120 old UCAS points (this equates to PPP on a BTEC Extended Diploma, or two A- levels at grade D), or... A merit in a relevant National Diploma, Extended Diploma, or Access to IT programme. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds. You can still apply if you dont have a formal qualification, but can demonstrate appropriate industrial experience. You will need to attend an interview and bring evidence of your existing qualifications or experience. What can I do after this course? On successfully completing this course, you will be awarded a HNC in Computing. This could enable you to: - Find a job in a computing or IT-related role - Progress to the HND in Computing at Barking & Dagenham College During your programme, you will be able to learn more about your potential options for employment or further study.
