3 Dear Student, Please read through all the pages in this booklet carefully. You will find all the information you need to know for your GCSE examinations this summer. Remember to check the exam information board (near C3 & C4) for up to date information. You should have your candidate number remember this like it s your pin number as this as just as in important as writing your name! Remember that controlled assessments are just as important and your written examinations! If you have any questions or would like any help or advice, please don t hesitate to come and see me. 4 Exam Code of Conduct Times All morning examinations will start at 9.00am prompt and afternoon exams will start at 1.20pm. Students should go straight to forms rooms to register at 8.55am and 1.10pm and then go straight to their exam room. Venues Examinations will take place mainly in the Hall and Gym and library. Timetable The examination timetable for all exams held in May/June 2016 is on pages 6 and 7. This is also displayed on the Exam Information Board. Seating For each exam, you will be told where to sit. After the February half term, you will be given your personal timetable, (See page 8 for an example) this will show just your own exams this will help you to organise your revision plan. 2 weeks before your first exam, you will be given an Individual Candidate Timetable (See page 8 for an example) which will show which room your sitting your exam and your seat. Seating plans will be displayed on the exam information board and outside the exam venue. Absence If you are ill on the day of the examination, please contact the School immediately on Please let reception know that you are due to sit an exam. The exam officer will aim to call you back at the earliest possible time (Please note that it may be after the exam has started) to discuss your absence. A doctor s certificate must be produced to the Exams Officer as soon as possible so that an application for special consideration can be made. An application cannot be made without one. Absences due to unforeseen circumstances, such as bereavement or a funeral, must be reported to the Exam Officer at the earliest convenience so that special consideration can be applied for. Students will be invoiced for failing to attend an examination, without a doctor s certificate or extenuating circumstances. Lateness If you know you are going to be late, please contact the school immediately. If you arrive late, you may be allowed into the examination, however any lateness must be reported to the Awarding Body and it is at their discretion whether they will mark the script. If you are more than an hour late, you may not be able to sit the exam. Exam Clashes Students will receive a letter approximately 2 weeks before the exam. The letter will explain how your day will differ to everybody else s. If you have not received this letter and you have a clash please see the Exam Officer as soon as possible. Drinks You are allowed to bring into the examination room a small clear plastic bottle of water (without labels). We do recommend that you bring a drink of water with you to enable you to be hydrated during the examinations. Only water will be allowed.

5 Equipment You are expected to provide all your own stationery and equipment. All written exams are completed in black pen. You must clear anything stored in your calculator and lids are not allowed on your desk. See page 13 for more information on stationery and equipment. The Exam Office sells exam stationery and equipment see page 17 for prices. You must not use correction pens, fluid or tape or gel pens. You may use highlighters just so long as you do not highlight your answer. Start of the examination Enter the room in silence. The invigilator will go through the examination regulations. You will be asked to complete the front cover of your answer booklet. You will be given one last opportunity to check pockets and get rid of any uauthorised items such as notes, mobile phones, and smart watches. During the examination You must not communicate with any other candidate. If you require assistance, please put your hand up and an invigilator will attend to you. You will not be allowed to leave an examination room early even if you have finished. If you finish earlier than everyone else, sit silently, re-read your answers. Do not attempt to communicate with anyone or doodle on your question or answer booklet. End of the examination You must leave the room in silence until you are outside of the room/venue and away from any students who may still be working. Please be aware that there may be other examinations in the room that are continuing. Malpractice Any breach of examination regulations such as cheating in examinations, using unauthorised aids, copying from and communicating with other pupils, will be reported to the relevant awarding body. This may result in disqualification from that examination, and possibly from other examinations you may take. Uniform All pupils are required to wear their school uniform when attending the examination and failure to do so may result in the pupil being refused entry. Exam Regulations Familiarise yourself the Awarding Bodies regulations on pages Mobile Phones, ipods, iwatches, MP3/4 Players These items are not permitted in the exam rooms. Possession of these items is a serious offence and could results in disqualification from your examination and your overall qualification. If you must bring a phone to school, please leave it in your bag switched off. There will be an opportunity to hand in these items before the start of every exam. Bags All bags must be left in form rooms before your exam starts. Fire Alarm In the event of a fire alarm, you should remain seated and wait for further instructions from the invigilator. If you are asked to leave the building, you must leave everything on your desk and leave in silence, remember you are still under exam conditions.

13 Stationery/Equipment required for Exams All students should have the following: Black pen Pencil Ruler (graduated in CMs and MMs) Protractor Pair of Compasses Eraser Scientific Calculator Pencil Sharpener Students are recommended to purchase a clear pencil case to store their stationery. Pencil cases are not permitted in the examination room unless they are see-through.
