Whether it's collecting data, developing Preventative Maintenance programs or developing Asset Hierarchies, our team of dedicated consultants will work with you to support your goals.
A Brief History 1929 Robert Bureau launched the first radiosonde, a device that used wireless telemetry, converted to Morse code, to transmit temperature and barometric pressure from a weather balloon UCLA and Stanford Research Institute connect over ARPANET, the forerunner to the Internet, introducing packet switching First service trial of Bell Labs-developed cellular system is conducted in Chicago.
A Brief History Continued 1981 Hayes AT modem command set automates dialing and control of communications links What is believed to be the first Internet connected device was created when graduate students at Carnegie Mellon University s School of Computer Science installed micro switches in the department s Coke machine so they could monitor inventory from their computers The first handheld wireless cell phone the Motorola DynaTAC 8000X was purchased for $3,995.
A Brief History Continued 1990 Internet pioneers John Romkey and Simon Hackett connect a toaster to the Internet, allowing it to be turned on and off online The first mass-produced GSM digital cell phone, the Nokia 1011, became commercially available /5 The Internet goes commercial with Amazon and Echobay (Ebay).
A Brief History Continued 1998 Mark Weiser constructed a water fountain outside his office whose flow and height mimicked the volume and price trends of the stock market Kevin Ashton, RFID pioneer introduced the phrase Internet of Things LG Introduces the 1 st internet refrigerator plans
A Brief History Continued 2002 The Ambient Orb is created by a spin-off of MIT Media Lab. The Orb monitors the Dow Jones, personal portfolios, weather and other data sources and changes color based on the dynamic parameters ITU (International Telecommunications Union) published it s first report on IoT 2008 IPSO Alliance was launched for deploying IP for Smart Object communication
A Brief History Continued 2009 The Internet of Things is born. For the first time in history, more devices or objects were connected to the Internet than people Google s Self Driving car hit the road IPv6 was launched publicly.

The IoT Elements People/Process Sensors & Devices 02 Connectivity/ Networks Sensors & Devices The Internet of Things connects billions of sensors and devices such as everyday consumer items and industrial equipment onto networks Connectivity / Networks Increasing amounts of data produced by these devices and sensors are acquired, logged and stored through network connectivity. People / Process Network inputs are combined into bi-directional systems to enable better decision making. The primary output is better decision making through automation of process.
Stages of IoT Maturity 1 Monitoring 1 2 Control Monitoring the connected device Ability to make changes/updates to the connected device remotely Automation Establishment of ITTT protocols to automate optimization & response. 3 3 Optimization Analysis of data to make optimization decisions

Application / Backend Applications and Databases subscribe to the IoT Platform Think of the Platform as your hub for bringing devices and their data together to be distributed to the areas that subscribe / need the data CMMS Condition Monitoring SCADA Isolated IoT ability to automate response Big Data & Analytics provides the opportunity to analyze disparate data sources temperature, humidity, operating conditions and develop response / review criteria to take action
Importance of IoT The true value of the Industrial Internet of Things is not merely in the ability to connect devices, but to garner information to make better decisions. Reduce response time / more effective response Trend analysis Advanced Pattern Recognition Common core platform to bring together multiple systems Risk mitigation
Why IoT in Facilities Maintenance? Foot Fall Sensors Determine how many people have used a rest room in a defined period of time to better dispatch custodial services. Construction Sensors Track workers locations, body temperature and accelerometer to create route planning for work and safety alerts when there is a fall. Why IoT? Trash Barrel Weight Change routes for trash pickups based on weight of objects in receptacle. Work Order Generation Based on multiple sensor inputs (temperature, pressure, motion) develop automated response to address issues,
