2 INTRODUCTION GUESTGATE is an innovative product within the INTELLINET NETWORK SOLUTIONS portfolio that allows an IT administrator to easily accommodate visitors and letting them connect to the network when they are on company premises. This innovative new INTELLINET NETWORK SOLUTIONS product is designed to provide protected access so that the IT administrator is not compromising the company s network security. What is PROTECTED ACCESS? GUESTGATE offers several protection functions for both the connected Guest Computers as well as the Host Network. HNP Technology GUESTGATE prevents clients from accessing the Host Network with the excep tion of the Internet Gateway for Online Access. The Administrator can allow access to servers in the Host Network if required. Layer 3 Virtual VLAN Technology Client Isolation. GUESTGATE protects the connected guest computers by assigning different Random Networks to each client. That way no connection between the guest computers can be established. The Administrator can allow communication between the guest computers if required. Guest Protection GUESTGATE prevents any access from the Internet to the connected guest computers

3 FUNCTION BASICS GUESTGATE combines two basic functions: 1. Connection of guests to the Internet without the need to configure the guest computers. 2. Preventing guests from accessing the host network keeping your network safe from users snooping around. This is made possible through the use of HOST NETWORK PROTECTION (HNP) technology. -3-

4 INSTALLATION EXAMPLES GUESTGATE can be used in just about any type of configuration. Although the target market for GUESTGATE is the IT administrator, it is not limited to any particular company size or specific type of industry or business. We will talk more about the target market later in this document, but for now we wanted to illustrate how GUESTGATE can be deployed in a small office home office (SOHO) environment, as well as in a small and medium business (SMB) environment. Notice also that GUESTGATE can be used to provide Wireless access as well as access through the wired network. And in both cases the network and the guests are not being exposed to network security vulnerabilities. GUESTGATE is a safe and flexible solution. SOHO Environment (1) (2) The above diagram illustrates how GUESTGATE can be installed in a SOHO Network Environment. It connects directly to the router (eg. the INTELLINET NETWORK SOLU- TIONS ) which provides Internet connectivity. The guest computers can connect to GUESTGATE in three ways: 1. Direct Connection to one of GUESTGATE s Guest ports (1) 2. Connection to a LAN Switch which is connected to one of GUESTGATE s Guest ports (not shown in diagram) 3. Connect to a Wireless Access Point which is connected to one of GUESTGATE s Guest ports (2)

5 INSTALLATION EXAMPLES SMB Environment (1) (2) (4) (3) This diagram shows GUESTGATE in a more complex network environment. GUESTGATE can connect to any RJ-45 port in your network. It is designed to automatically detect the correct network settings to provide Internet Access for your guests. In the example above, a guest can access the Firewall Gateway (1) in order to gain access to the Internet, but GUESTGATE prevents any access to the host network (2). The connection of the Guest computers is exactly as shown before: Wired directly (3), wired through a Lan switch (not shown) and wirelessly through an Access Point (4). -5-

6 TARGET MARKET IT Administrators GUESTGATE was designed with the system administrator in mind. In offices with frequent visitor traffic, system administrators often have to spend a lot of time configuring the guest computers. GUESTGATE eliminates that need. There is no specific company size and there is no specific industry or vertical market that GUEST- GATE is limited to. GUESTGATE appeals to the IT administrator or the data center manager because it allows them to configure the network one time and from then on provide plug and play Internet access to their visitors (vendors, customers, contractors, consultants, etc.) without additional configuration work. GUESTGATE is ideal for visitors cubes, conference rooms, and front lobbies, and can be configured to support LAN ports on an Ethernet switch, or Wireless access through a Wireless Acces Point or Wireless Router. Hotel Owners, Bars, Cafes GUESTGATE s config free client operation makes it the ideal device to provide free and secure Internet Service. GUESTGATE users are protected from any other users by a very important feature referred to as Layer 3 Client Isolation. This feature prevents hackers from using the network to break into computers of other guests. Because this feature protects the users computer from unauthorized access, it also relieves the hotel and bar owners and from potentional liability issues

7 KEY FEATURES AT A GLANCE 1. IP PNP IP Plug and Play ensures configuration free client operation. GUESTGATE adjusts to the IP settings of any guest computer it may come across. Time consuming configuration is a thing of the past. 2. Host Network Protection (HNP) Technology GUESTGATE prevents any guest from accessing any part of your network while allowing them to access the Internet eg. to check for . Since flexibility is an essential part of GUESTGATE, the system administrators can allow access to specified servers in their networks. An Intranet Web Server is a good example. 3. Client Isolation GUESTGATE not only protects the network of the host, but also the connected guest computers. Guest Computers are save from any access originating in the host network as well as the Internet. Furthermore, not even other Guest Computers can access one another - even if they are all connected to a Wireless Access Point (which is connected to one of GUESTGATE s Guest Ports). The function is called Layer 3 Client Isolation (Layer 3 indicating that this function works on an IP level, not a hardware level). To give the system administrator flexibility, this feature can be disabled as sometimes a connection between Guest computers may be needed (network games, etc.). 4. Content control The administrator has several ways to control the type of content guests can access. IP filter, Domain Filters and Service Port filters are available along with the ability to control the maximum Internet bandwidth GUESTGATE can consume. 5. 8 GUESTGATE VS. 3RD PARTY HOTSPOT GATEWAYS There are several Hotspot Gateways on the market, like the D-Link DSA3100, that you may be asked to compare with GUESTGATE. GUESTGATE was designed to provide cost-effective protected access to small and medium business. The DSA3100 was designed with one clear goal in mind: Creating an Internet Hotspot with configuration free client operation and a strong integrated billing system. The DSA combines the functionality of a Firewall, a NAT Router, a traffic monitoring system and a database driven accounting system for paid per traffic internet services. It allows the connection of a special ticket printer which is available from DLINK as an accesory. This is a very powerful product which is perfectly suited for its main application as a hotspot gateway. This feature rich product is also very complex and not easy to configure. The price as well as the effort do not make this product attractive to the IT administrator who is looking to provide protected access to the people who visit their corporate offices. If your customer is pursuing a hotspot gateway solution and require traffic monitoring, customer database, and other features then GUESTGATE may not be the ideal solution. 9 GUESTGATE VS. 3RD PARTY HOTSPOT GATEWAYS GUESTGATE is not a Hotspot Gateway GUESTGATE is not an all-in-one product, but is designed to address a specific function: provide protected access to the network for corporate visitors with minimal setup and no intervention from the IT staff. GUESTGATE is designed to utilize the existing network structure already in place instead of forcing the customer to install yet another router even though there may already be one. Traffic monitoring and customer database are functions too specific for a guest access device. Those features would only drive the price up considerably. Focus on the IT administrator who is interested in saving time and money by providing protected access to the network for people who visit their offices. 10 CROSS SELLING PRODUCTS One of the strongest of our value propositions is our ability to provide the independent reseller with a complete solution that they can in turn go to market with and provide complete solutions to their customers. Cross-selling helps to contribute a significant portion of revenue, and also helps strengthen the relationship between you and your distributors, between your distributors and their resellers, and between resellers and end users. GUESTGATE was designed with a specific application in mind, and lends itself very well to cross-selling. The examples provided below are not intended to limit your cross-selling to these examples alone, but are provided to help you understand that there are many different combinations of devices that can be sold in addition to the GUESTGATE device itself. These examples will probably cover the majority of environments that GUESTGATE will be deployed in, and represent a good example of what other kinds of products would naturally coexist with or attach to GUESTGATE.
